I chose a G27 subcompact over the G23 for the reason of versatility. I added a LW 9mm conversion barrel and I use mag fillers to use my G23 or G19 mags for that mid size grip when I want it. I plan to pick up a LW 357 SIG barrel or a G33/G32 barrel if I decide to add that caliber. Right now I have no brass or dies for that caliber so I holding off.
  3. With 158 grain cast bullets I have loaded a zillion loads of 5.2 grains of 231 in WW cases with WW primers. This is a +P load and I have always shot it in 357 revolvers. I usually back it down to 4.5 for a typical service load for a 38 spl. As for 357 mag, I have never used 231, I have used a ton of 2400. I cast the Lyman 358429, it is the 168 grain Kieth bullet over 13.5 grains of 2400. It has always shot very well. This load is too long to fit some revolvers, like counter bored SW's. I have also done some Hornady swaged lead bullets over 4.0 grains of 231 for a really lite load. Does OK but still leads a little.

I had one but let it get away. I now have a 27. If I had it to do over, I would just get a 40 barrel for it. The 357 Sig had a lot more muzzle blast, especially with standard ball ammo. I had a case of the Blazer stuff that looked like a flame thrower. Also, they also make some pretty hot 135 grain 40SW ammo now that nearly equals the 357 Sig in velocity...1300ish...but with a .400 diameter bullet so it kinda renders the 357 Sig a little moot. Plus, I am a reloader, 40SW brass is so much more plentiful and since it is not bottle necked, I don't have to lube the cases to re-size them in the Dillon.
  5. The 38 S&W cartridge is shorter and fatter than the 38 S&W Special. If it is marked 38 Special it is probably not a 38 S&W but a 38 Special. The out side cartridge diameter of the 38 Special is .379 and the older 38 S&W is .3855. The length on the 38 Special is 1.155 and the 38 S&W is only .755.
  6. Yes it would....it will take all the bluing with it also!!! I wouldn't do that.
  7. Standard commander without box series 80? 550 to 675 depending on condition. SS could go a little higher. A 70 series can go to 800 plus, many put a premium on good condition light weights. Also, it is very important there are no modifications and that it is original. Of course, this is only my opinion from what I have seen at the shows lately. These are also max prices and since a lot of guns are coming out of closets and sock drawers, there are deals to be found if you are patient.
  8. Just a hint, you can use a shellholder if you don't want to mess with the collet. Just unscrew the cap, insert case and shell holder, replace cap and whack away. I usually use the collet on rimmed cases as I can get them out without having to unscrew the cap but rimless cases I use the shellholder. I have had the little collet come apart on me several times over the years and if it is tight you still have to fight the case out. You don't have to with the shell holder. One other thing. If you have the older RCBS type of bullet puller with the little metal wire coil spring, you can replace it with an "O" ring. works better.

  10. If I have said it once I have said a K times. Rig Gun Grease. Keep a thin film on all my guns, an old man taught me this 30 years ago, and you will not have a rust problem. I have a rag that I have been using for 25 years to wipe down the guns, about time for a new one as this one is tattered, but it always works. 11. LSG Mfg. 10059 Hwy 1476 Comanche, Texas 76442 Frank is a great guy and he is a factory warranty center. If it is a newer gun he will probably have you ship it on his dime.
  12. They sure don't build'em like they use too!
  13. Alliant lists 6.0 for a 240 LSWC and I am fairly certain they mean a swaged lead bullet. They list velocity at 894 with a 7.5" barrel. Handloads.com lists loads up to 9+ for a 240 grain LSWC so I am thinking that is pretty mild. I actually would use a little slower powder, maybe Unique for a medium load.

    bersa 9mm

Had one for a while. It is a copy of the Walther P88 but with an alloy frame. Mine shot well and functioned fine. Value is usually in the $300-350 range. Sold mine because I got 9mm overload and something had to go. The ambi safety/slide release makes it too bulky to carry IMO.
  16. If there is room, try taking a very small punch and gently try to move the tap in counterclockwise direction by tapping it. It should move in the threads it has cut. Once it moves a little it should come out. As stated, taps are too brittle to drill or cut but they will chip and break, but if that is thin metal I don't think I would try to break it out. Keep patiently working it out, if part of the tap, even a tiny part, is up above the surface, you should be able to punch out.
  17. What ammo are you using? Lightweight bullets going fast will shoot lower. Try some different ammo. Shoot some rounds with your wrist on a rest or sand bags. Have someone else shoot it also. If it is still low and left you can drift the rear sight, I use a wooden dowel rod...gently. Glock makes different sights to raise or lower point of impact and Glock factory sights are very inexpensive....3-4 bucks.
  18. I WANT TO SEE PICS OF SNAKES AT ROOM TEMP! Keep us in mind the next time you get one.
  19. There was a guy walking a SS Savage 12 in 308 HBB at the Murfressboro gun show. I was very interested in the rifle but I didn't buy it on the first pass. A guy I know saw him leave with it. If anybody knows who he was PM please. I know, long shot but it is worth a shot.
  20. I have had good results if you clean the area with acetone or degreaser and then rub the cold blu in with a 0000 steel wool a couple of times. I use Birchwood Casey Super Blu and Perma Blu. I have used 44/40 also with good results. If done properly it will not come off with gun solvents and works well on fine scratches and small marks. I would not recommend doing large areas.
  21. What size tap? Where did it break...is it flush, sunk, sticking out? Can you get to the back side where it came through? Like previous poster stated, taps are brittle, so I have taken small punches and worked them out or broken them and pulled them out with magnets, twisted them on through to the other side. Just depends. If it is small like a 6-40 and you mess up the threads you can tap it up to a 8-40.
  22. One other that fits that description in a single stack is the Sig P6/P225. Summit Gunbroker had some new ones recently. Firearms, Guns, Rifles. Grain Valley, Missouri. They also had the 239's. One other they have that fits your description that I would look at is the Sig 245 carry. Price wise the SW's cost half what the Sigs do....that is why I am such a SW 3rd gen fan. I have never had a bobble out of one of mine...yet.
  23. Several 3rd generation SW's fit that description. They are some of my favorites also. Besides the 3913/908 there is the mini little Chief Special CS9, CS40, CS45. The slightly larger 4513/457, 4013(there is a double stack and single stack version of this one, the 4563TSW(this is a Commander size and is my personal favorite) plus others. Some of the older SW's make great carry guns also, the 39's, 439's, 539's, 639's plus another favorite, the 3906. Gunbroker is a good place to look plus a lot of the older guns are popping up at the gun shows lately as people are cleaning out the sock drawers.
  24. I have been using the corrugated plastic, I am a realtor so it is easy to come by. I plan to buy some 4x8 sheets for my back field and put up some permanent target boards. I call Advanced Plastics on Centennial Blvd and they had it for about $9 bucks a sheet.
  25. The older Lyman manuals I have list a max of 5.3 grains with a 124 grain bullet. Hornady lists 5.1 grains with the 124 and Speer lists 4.5 with there swaged lead bullet. If you are looking to match your jacketed bullet loads, I would not be a afraid to use the same charge behind a lead bullet. I have found that most loading manuals list lighter loads for lead bullets to keep velocities down to curb leading. If you use a properly cast lead bullet there is no reason not to load the same load. Get a chronograph to check velocities and use a good bullet.
