Man you have entirely to much time on your hands but I will pitch in on the bail bond.............

Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for for a little something extra for my wife Julie. What I came across was a 100,000-volt pocket/purse-sized Taser. The effects of the Taser were supposed to be short lived, with no long term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety...?? WAY TOO COOL!!! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home...I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button and pressed it against a metal surface at the same time, I'd get the blue arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs. AWESOME!!! Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what the burn spot is on the face of her microwave. Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two AAA batteries, right? There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target. I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and then thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong? So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and Taser in another. The directions said that: A one second burst would shock and disorient your assailant. A two second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; and A three second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting batteries. All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5" long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference (loaded with two itsy, bitsy AAA batteries) pretty cute really, and thinking to myself, "no possible way"!! What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best. I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side so as to say, "Don't do it stupid", reasoning that a one second burst from such a tiny lil ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad...I decided to give myself a one second burst just for heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and ..... HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. WHAT THE ....!!!! I'm pretty sure Hulk Hogan ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs! The cat was making meowing sounds I had never heard before, clinging to a picture frame hanging above the fireplace, obviously in an attempt to avoid getting slammed by my body flopping all over the living room. Note- If you ever feel compelled to "mug" yourself with a Taser one note of caution: There is NO such thing as a one second burst when you zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by violent thrashing about on the floor!! A three second burst would be considered conservative! A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace.*The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was. *My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. *My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs. *I had no control over the drooling. *Apparently I had crapped in my shorts, but was too numb to know for sure, and my sense of smell was gone. *I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head, which I believe came from my hair. I'm still looking for my testicles and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return! My wife can't stop laughing about my experience, loved the gift and now regularly threatens me with it! If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

Yep, back on TV ads again............... :bowrofl:

I see they are advertising these on TV again. I don't know if any one here has read any of the reviews but if not please do before buying them. Reading them is funny but at the same time you will feel sorry for the person writing the reviews..............jmho http://www.amazon.com/Haribo-Sugar-Free-Gummy-Bears/product-reviews/B008JELLCA

The down sizing has been going on for more years than most folks have been paying attention. I began to notice it back in the early 90's and all it has done is get worse. I have not paid much attention any more because I am only buying for me and the Mutt now and neither one of us eat as much as we use to. I do a lot of shopping at Sam's these days and I can save more money buying in bulk on the items we use the most. Instead of making 2 or 3 trips to the local grocery store I can make 1 a month or maybe 2 just for stuff like milk and maybe eggs. I bought a box of Cereal at Sam's and it was a double box meaning 2 bags in one box and it lasted me about 2 months and cost about what one family box would have cost and local store. I think these days it's all in smart shopping and being willing to drive a few miles to save money.........jmho

Unless your back is against a wall you can always begin backing up while deploying your weapon to keep the distance somewhat more manageable. Might be your only chance but better then no chance..........jmho With that said, I do know a police detective in Lockport, Illinois that had a bad guy walk up behind him one time and he could see him coming by a reflection in the window he was looking in and saw the knife and he shot the bad guy without ever clearing his holster completely. He carried in a Horizontal shoulder and just reached into his coat and fired his weapon taking the bad guy down. Ruined a nice coat but did the job. Folks up that way call him "Riggs" from movie Lethal Weapon around the station house. I went to school with the guy and he said he knew he did not have time enough to clear, turn to shoot so he clear enough to shoot. He did receive a few slight powder burns on his side and arm but all minor. I think I have the story on my old Computer. I will try and find it and post it.

I'm considering it seriously as neither Kasey or I are getting any younger so might look at early Summer.............

After making this post earlier I decided to give Joey a call and he was glad I did. He said I have thought about you often. We talked for about 85 minutes according to my Cell phone timer and really enjoyed catching up on things. As far as family goes Joey told me he had a house full of Grand children most of the time to keep him busy since his wife still works at hospital down there so he is the baby sitter while the kids all work also. He sure wants me to come and visit and fish Fontana with him. I might just look at it this late Spring/early Summer. He told me I could bring Kasey with me and I laughed. He said I know you don't go to many places without the mutt. Maybe some day you and I can get together and you can share some things about the area gg. I know if all the folks down that way are like Joey and Judy they have all got to be great folks..........jmho
-
Yea, I found that out gg. Joey has invited me down several times to spend some time fishing with him on Lake Fontana for some small mouth's but I have never been able to find the time and after him telling me a little bit about that area, not sure about going..... He said the Movie "Deliverance" was filmed all around his home and you can walk out on his back porch up on the mountain and see that railroad bridge over the river that was in the movie. He said you can also on a quiet night still hear the banjo's and guitars being picked down on the middle of the mountain even today. He said those people used in the movie where they sat down and played dueling Banjo's on that front porch in the movie were the real people from the mountain along with the ole man that danced. From what I gather most if not all of that particular mountain in Robbinsville must be owned by the same family because every road on the Mountain is name after a past resident of the mountain. All of the roads are named after Bridges family member............ Joey and I speak often even though he has about quit fishing we have remained friends and I guess will for ever. I did get to meet him one time. I was going to spend a week with friends on Lake Douglas and Joey drove about 4 hours through the mountains to spend a day with us. A great friend for sure.........

I am aware of that and there has been a few times in my life I have witnessed an idiot with a knife close or closer then 21 feet pop out the blade and the guy with a gun just open and reveal his weapon and that does cause the knife guy to hesitate a few seconds because he was not expecting a gun and that does in turn give the gun owner a few extra seconds. Not every time but many times it even discourages the knife guy to back away and forget the idea once the person gets a grip on their firearm...........jmho

Well, as to the kids lifting and dropping the lock boxes to open them, they had to be taught that. It just does not happen that way in my opinion. And the kid with that fine slide tool he used. I'm willing to bet he was also taught how to do it. I have 3 lock boxes through out my house and I promise you no child will open them. After each purchase I did my own modifications to them that would prevent that. I also pinned my boxes down to a very stable heavy base so they could not be picked up by any bad guys and toted off to open at a later date. If your going to invest the money in the boxes you also have to invest the time to make sure the boxes work like they should................jmho

II don't doubt this but I will still put my money on the gun owner if he/she has any practice or training what so ever in confrontation type situations.

My doctor has never had to ask if there are firearms in my home because when I took my coat off in her examining room to get my BP taken she saw mine in my belt holster. She did ask what caliber I was packing and I said 380. She opened up her doctors smock and said mine is 380 also and smiled and went on with the exam. Everyone working in her office has a gun on them except the very elderly lady at the front desk. She paid to have all of her people go through a gun safety course and carry course and she paid 50% of the cost of each persons firearm they chose to carry....................

I have been living with bad mail service for so long I just ignore most of it now. After being in a home small business of making fishing baits and using the post office priority mail to ship my products I was never to surprised but a couple times. One time was when I had a bait customer that lives in Robbinsville NC that called me on a Sunday night panicking because he had run out of a special bait I made for him and he was leaving out Wednesday at 6AM to fish a big tournament in SC and he asked me if I could get them to him before he left and I told him not to worry. He would have the baits. I sat up all Sunday night and had them all packed up in Express Mail package address and at the Post Office at 8 am on Monday. I put the package on the counter and the guy typed in the zip code and told me it was not going to happen over night. I said why not he said that zip code only gets mail delivery 3 times a week Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I said thanks and picked up the package and headed for UPS Store. I put the package on the counter and asked the clerk how fast they could get that package to that address. He typed in the Zip code and said 7PM tomorrow night and I said guaranteed and he said yep. I said ship it and he put that box in a larger box of theirs and addressed it. I paid $44.00 and then I told the guy that if my friend didn't call me and tell me he got it at 7PM or sooner I was going to come back up there and throw a large brick through the front window. My friend called me at 6:45 Pm and first thing he said was don't throw the brick and I started laughing and he said his wife would send me a a check. Just send her an amount. I had no idea folks only got mail 3 days a week any where in the 21st Century.

Yes and No. She had a 7 year old child in the house and if she is accustom to having children in her home she probably made the decision to not chamber a round. She may have been acting on the side of caution because of the children...........jmho

The 11year old was charged with Murder and found guilty and sentenced to 8 years in prison ( Juvenile Facility) till age 19. He will have a felony charge on his record for his entire life. I have mixed feelings about all of this. I do realized that the Boy was old enough to know what he was doing when he went and got the gun. It is not exactly clear if he handed the gun to a friend or if he was the actual shooter but he was the one that went in the closet and got the gun. Thing about all of this is none of it will bring back the little 8 year old girl. From all the different stories I read on line about this case, is there was bad blood between the 2 children for sometime and her refusal to let the boy pet a puppy seems to be what sparked the whole thing. Children will have these kinds of issues as long as children exist. We can all go back in our childhood memories and remember times we got mad at someone at that age. Guns were much more readily available back then then they are today but we didn't go get a gun and shoot them. Normally a few hours or days later we were back friends again of at least not holding a grudge about it. I have no clue where the answer lays when it comes to children these days and have no intentions of offering any suggestions on how to fix what children do these days. I don't think this law they are proposing will fix anything in regards to children. I do feel that at some point parents must realize that children do kill other children and it is up to adults to look for ways to fix this problem but again laws are not going to do it. This law like someone mentioned in an earlier post, is a reaction law that will only happen after a child has been killed by another. It's like a car insurance policy. They don't make any one a better driver but just pay up after the fact. Regardless of having the most expensive insurance on the market or the cheapest 100's of 1000's of folks die every year in car wrecks. There has been a few good ideas posted about LGS's offering a Gun Lock Box but like in the case above a gun lock box would not have worked. A trigger lock might have worked maybe???? but then another person raised a very good point about kids today being smart enough to figure out ways around lock boxes and locked doors if they want in bad enough. I guess I have gone on long enough so off my soap box now............ :2cents:

I heard about these new laws in news last evening and a lot of it during the discussions in the news was based around a particular case in question as the prime example that makes these laws needed. This particular case was mentioned several times by the news network during the report. https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=www.cnn.com%2F2015%2F11%2F25%2Fus%2Ftennessee-girl-killed-over-puppy%2F

I am to dumbfounded to comment on that magnificent piece of equipment other than I would bet ammo would not be an issue because all the enemy would be filling their pants, wetting their pants and trying to become invisible to it. Not to say they would be to scare of it's appearance to stay and fight but.............. :bowrofl: :bowrofl:
