Sanctioned by IDPA or USPSA both have websites. If you can safely draw and handle a handgun as well as follow basic instructions you will be welcomed at any IDPA or USPSA match.

Since you are in Nashville there are several IDPA & USPSA matches within an hour drive. Non are TGO affiliated but these matches are open to the general public so come on out. Next IDPA match is Jan 2 http://mctsclub.com in Dickson

IDPA Match 12/19 Music City Tactical Shooters @ Dickson
gsbell replied to gsbell's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
We have clear bags to cover targets. We will be good to go unless it gets dangerous, which isn't likely based on the forecast. -
This Saturday Dec 19th we will be having an IDPA match 5 stages 80 rounds. We also will be having a shotgun side match 17 rounds of bird shot and 5 slugs. As always at MCTS long guns must have a chamber flag, if you need one we have them available for a nominal cost. Tom Snipes will be the match director for this match, we look forward to seeing all of you on the range. Music City Tactical Shooters - IDPA Nashville Music City Tactical (mctsclub) on Twitter

I know conventional wisdom says to start with a single stage or turret, but I waited until a good deal on a Dillon 650 came along. I can crank 500 rounds an hour taking my time, no where even near pushing the limits of the machine.
-
Yea my wife will be flying back into town that morning, it would be poor form to tell her to take a cab.
-
Allan, Tom Snipes the Asst Match Director for the club will be running the match on the 19th. Tom will put out some good stages, there will also be a shotgun side match. Greg
-
Allan, Thanks the stages were ok, but I think we have had our fill of standards type stuff for now! Look for some more run-n-gun type stuff from us for awhile.
-
Allan, It will be good to see you back, make sure your friends are coming ready to shoot!
-
The weather may be cool but we will still be hosting a pistol only IDPA match this Saturday. I look forward to seeing all of you there. Music City Tactical Shooters - IDPA Nashville

Pet owners please read! Hartz products can kill?

I've seen those warnings before, I'm not sure if the products from the VET are any safer but that is what we use. -
Sat Nov 21st Music City Tactical IDPA Match
gsbell replied to gsbell's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
Thanks! I did turn out that way didn't it? I had intended it to be pretty straight forward, but I think as a result it became pretty competitive. That woods walk just plain wore me out. -
Shooters! Join us this Saturday Nov 21st for our IDPA match 5 stages 102 rounds. We will also have a rifle side match in the woods 30 rounds. The weather is forecasted to be great. See everyone there! Greg Bell http://www.mctsclub.com http://twitter.com/mctsclub

Music City Tactical and Gallatin gun club both usually do a couple a year. We also both alternate rifle and shotgun side matches after our normal IDPA matches. Music City Tactical Shooters - IDPA Nashville Gallatin Gun Club Web Site

The nice thing about Stones River is that they do run a tight ship. Public ranges can be a bit scary when the village idiot shows up to shoot. I did notice if you are not a complete idiot and can hit your target they don't seem to get riled at rapid fire. I took my new AR upper over there to get the scope dialed in. After I was done with that I took it off the rest and did some quick doubles to get used to the JP brake and it didn't seem to phase them.

Nice shooting Rick!

Good match by Robert. I had a good time, didn't shoot worth a damn but still had fun! Thanks go to Jeff Stone for running the last stage for me, as I had to scoot.
-
Here is the format for the match tomorrow from Robert. 3 - Gun Classes Standard -- "SSP" IDPA legal pistol, 10 rd. mags., strong side IDPA holster. Iron sights on rifle with single 30 rd. mag. max. Any shotgun with standard sights. 9 rd. max. Tactical -- "ESP" IDPA legal pistol, High cap. "factory standard"mags ok. Strong side holster or dropped strong side tactical holster ok. One optic allowed on rifle. 40rd. mag or 2-30rd mags on mag-cinch ok. Any shot gun with std. sights ok. 9 rd. max. Heavy Metal -- "CDP" IDPA legal pistol. 8 rd, mags. Strong side holster or dropped strong side tactical holster. Iron sights only on rifle. .308 min cal. Single 20 rd mags. max. Pump shotgun only with iron sights, 8 rds max. General Rules Shotgun -- 9 rounds max at start. No optics. Shotguns under 22" should be used because of tight confines in the COF. Slugs used only on paper targets. Birdshot or AA loads will work on all other targets. There will be paper targets on some COF's requiring slugs. Spare shotgun rounds may be carried on shotgun, pockets, belt carrier or arm carrier. Rifle -- .223 or 5.56mm min. cal. rifle ammo. AK or AR style rifles work best in this game. No round larger that 30-06 will be allowed. No steel cored ammo or tracer. Spare ammo may be carried on belt holder or pocket.

Depending how far you are to the highway I'd say an hour from that area. I'm off OHB on the south end of town and it takes me 10 minutes just to get to 65 and then another hour to get out there.
