  1. heh...I had to blame SOMEONE for my weakness :-) I think you'll like that CDP they have up there. I passed that Talon up too many times. It was just mocking me every time I went in there.
  2. Does anyone know if the Aug TFA meeting is still on? I've got a open post on the TFA board...but so far it's all alone over there
  3. Tell me about it... MSRP with the bobtail and the diamond black is a bit over 3K so it was a decent deal. I don't think I've ever spent over 900.00 on one piece before, but I closed a huge deal this week.
  4. Len and I went shooting Thursday to let him see the difference in a 3 inch and a 4 inch 1911. Well...no good trip to Guns and Leather is complete without a stop by the 1911 case. I had pretty much decided to trade in the Ultra Raptor on another 4 or 5 inch 1911, the 3 inchers are to "snappy" for my taste. Well...I looked at a Sig Elite 220, a Springfield Operator and a HK USP. I couldn't make up my mind; so I just left. I went back on Thursday and had Dennis put a magwell on my CDP while I drooled some more. I ended up walking out with...none of the above: One of the owners friend had ordered and paid for a NICE Nighthawk Talon II with the upgraded Diamond Black finish and a bobtail...only to put her in the safe for 6 months. He traded it unfired in on a Browning over/under. with begging, pleading and trading I picked it up for 2K. Here's a pic ofthe CDP with her new magwell...just for fun
  5. Took this class Saturday. VERY educational. John and Ken are both excellent instructors. Ken, I can't remember his last name right now, is ex FBI and is a current Metro police FTO and SWAT instructor. According to him, he's running the same drills in Advanced Handgun I that are used to train SWAT units handgun training. All I know is: my left hand is bruised and swollen from 500 rounds of 230 grain FMJ My Kimber CDP ROCKED! I only had 2 FTFs in the early goings then she cleared her throat and run without issue. I'm so far out of shape it ain't funny. I woke myself up at 5am with leg cramps this morning, and I look like Grandpa trying to walk across the floor without using any leg muscles at all. The 1911 trigger reset takes forever to "feel out" I had more trouble on the double taps than anyone else, until I forced myself to slow down and feel the trigger reset point. Once I got in, double taps fron the draw were much more accurate and faster than I thought I was capable of running. We started with basic draw stroke drills from the numbers firing one round. Then, draw and fire two center mass, then draw and fire two center mass ,one in the head. We shot from 3 ft, 7 ft and 10ft. We shot on the move, on the run, forward, backward and sideways. Kneeling shots, prone, basic weapon retention if someone grabs your weapon while you are slicing the pie. Then we had the oh so fun shoot/no shoot "crapoloa" scenario that Ken and John came up with. Poor undercover cops never had a chance. I don't think any of us missed....the cops. I missed one litle old man because I didn't look at his hands. I did get 4 good head shots...just two of them were on the good guys. We also learned that Kens 40 cal Glock mags are neither cover or bullet proof. He dropped one of his mags showing how to speed reload, and didn't pick it up when we went on to one handed close range shooting. Well, in showing us the proper pelvic girdle point shooting, he put one right through one of his mags. It looked like he was using it as a target I was also surprised at the number of 1911s that we on range. There was one lady who picked up her railed Kimber Friday night, and by the end of the day was shooting like a pro. 1911s, XDs, one dentist had a nice HK...and the other half were running Glocks, mostly G23s. The drive out wasn't as bad as I thought until I got to the "end of the paved road" part. I only made one wrong turn. It was almost unbearably hot Saturday. We had a couple of people run into heat related problems so...hydrate as much as possible. Looking back, I'd say it was worth getting up early, driving almost two hours and ending up smelling rather vile at the end of the day I'd do it again, and more than likely will when they run Advanced Handgun II
  6. What do you consider "a lot" Sig 220 Compact Kimber Pro CDP Para CCO Glock 21, Glock 30, Glock 36 Cheaper, Still good pieces depending on what size you're looking for. Taurus PT1911, looks like a nice 1911, not a lot of money
  7. Guns and Leather is one of the nicest ranges around here IMHO ASP in Joelton isn't too bad of a drive http://www.academyofselfprotection.com/ There's the weekend range at Stones River, if they're open No carry in any local parks thanks to the spineless House and Senate
  8. http://www.theonion.com/content/video/breaking_news_all_online_data (It's the Onion...if you don't know it's not "real" news)
  9. Is the range property as hard to find as it looks like on Google Maps? The directions they faxed me have a bit about continue after you run out of paved road :-) All I could think of is Jeff Foxworthy
  10. After training with HGR this past Friday, I want some more :-) They're running an advanced handgun course this weekend I'm interested in.
  11. Has anyone ever take any training there? http://www.therangeinc.com/
  12. The synchronized shooting looked fake...but effective.
  13. +1 :-) It was a great class. I found out that: 1. My grip was wrong, which was pulling my shots off low right 2.I'm cross eye dominant. 3.The defense sight picture is if you can see the blade in the rear sight notch, take the shot. It's actually harder than it looks. The 2nd shot of the double taps was almost always low...if even on target. You don't line up the sights...if it's in the notch you're close enough. That takes a ALOT of thinking after spending years working on proper sight alignment. I liked shooting against the timer, and I had Greg load my mags with dummy rounds..which no only worked on flinching , but a good failure drill when the Kimber extractor grabbed into that little plastic POS and wouldn't let go. The class gets you to shoot in ways/situations that most ranges frown upon. I'd have to agree with Len, shooting weak hand barricade is a PITA. Being a lefty I had to change stalls to do weak and strong hand barricade, or shoot the pulleys and wires on the station. Definitely need about 200 rounds, and at least 2 spare mags. I strongly recommend the class for anyone who ccws. It's a pre req for the outside the home class, and there's always something new to learn. And I got to shoot with Len two Fridays in a row. :-)
  14. They have push pins for the targets. You are correct, no silhouettes, but the provide targets free of charge. I STRONGLY suggest calling them 1st before going out there. I dove out there a couple of weeks ago only to be greeted by locked gates. 15. now thats funny right there I don't care who ya are :-)
  16. Thanks guys. I like the snap cap idea. I KNOW I'm jerking sometimes. When I took my Para out with the LDA after shooting the Kimber I was anticipating the trigger break of the 1911, not the LDA trigger. I noticed I was pulling the trigger to where I expected the shot to go off, then releasing the trigger without firing the shot. Muscle memory isn't always a good thing. Len...thanks for the link. I had that downloaded somewhere but I couldn't find them yesterday to print them off.
  17. Make sure to use clean underwear...that way you won't be embarrassed when they find you I have to agree...this election cycle is junk. Clement has the name...Briley is trying to run off his family name. His kin in the TN House/Senate is part of the reason the bill that would have given us back our rights to carry in restaurants that serve booze died. Carl Dean and Gentry are part of the problem now. Carl Dean's phone people don't know what "please don't call me anymore" means until it's wrapped with several F bombs and discussions of their mothers integrity. Dozier has been part of the problem as well. I'm scared whomever we get in office would turn into another Bloomburg Rabbi...I think the city is ready for new blood...you got my vote as well.
  18. Guess that WOULD be helpful :-) I'm left handed, right hand is my support hand. I shoot is what I guess is a weaver stance like this fella I'm applying (I think) too much pressure with my support hand and pulling my shot off at the last minute. I switched to a (what I call) teacup stance and was hitting point of aim, but weapon control suffered.
  19. I took her to the range today....just as I suspected. No problems. Well...I had one FTF at around the 140 round mark. I did notice that I'm pulling EVERYTHING to the right worse than usual with this one. It's not the gun. I plugged the X one handed at 15 ft. It's my grip. I really wanted to keep the factory wood grips, but she might get a set of Houges for carry work. Does anyone have any suggestions other then practice practice practice to help me overcome the pulling problem?
  20. My father died when I was 5. My mother worked two jobs when I was in Jr high and high school. I couldn't so much as sneak a beer without her knowing about it. I don't know who was feeding her intel...but they were GOOD at their job :-) I only ended up in the back of a patrol car once..for something someone else did and the cop knew it. They wanted me to tell them what happened. The ONLY thing I did to get in trouble with the law is street race...but in the 80s...driving cars from the 60s and racing in the middle of friggin nowhere we didn't even get in much trouble from the cops...just told to leave. I was alone 12 to 15 hours a day, 6 days a week, I didn't do drugs, rob people, steal, vandalize...nothing like that. Parents beat because they LOVE :-) Dr Spock and this hand holding, everyone is a winner crap is creating a much of dangerous thugs that have no idea what personal responsibility is..until the run into someone on "our" side that drops the hammer on 'em.
  21. That's because all they're told is it ain't their fault..there is no cause/effect in their minds. They think they can do what they want and no harm will come to them. They don't get any parenting, the public school teachers can't so much as talk harshly to them little Johnny goes running to the ACLU crying that his feelings were hurt. Everyone lines up to protect their precious little snowflake from the mean people in authority...then are surprised when they turn up in the gutter turning tricks with a crack pipe stuck up their ass. That's the governments fault. The government isn't spending enough money on welfare programs to stop them from becoming crooks. When someone finally stands up TO them...they don't know what to do...so they get violent...like a spoiled kid throwing a fit only with some form of weapon. Then IF they get caught...their crack addled parents are in front of the camera whining about how good of a boy they were and that drivel. sorry...I'm going to stop now...just struck a nerve there.
  22. http://www.newschannel5.com/global/story.asp?s=6788333&ClientType=Printable Beating people just for fun
  23. Good meeting you too Len. I appreciate the time you took to get me up to speed so I can attend class Friday...even with your sights being off :-) We both had trouble walking away from the Barrett..and the Nighthawk they tried to tempt me with. I've heard both god and bad on Kimbers. My own experience has been 99% good. the only one I've had any problems with is my Ultra Raptor. it likes to FTF every once in a while but nothing that a tap or a tap/rack wouldn't take care of. I think it has more to do with a 3 inch 191 than it does with it being a Kimber. I had more trouble out of my Springfield GI Spec then any of my Kimbers.
  24. dang it I went out to Guns and Leather Friday to shoot out of the NRA basic pistol training with Len. Like any good gun nut, I got there early to drool over the counters. I ran up on a used 4 inch Kimber Pro CDP. It looked pretty rough though. I had some misgivings about it. After shooting with Len, I went back out and looked at it again and left it there. There's probably nothing wrong with it, but I didn't get the "mojo" from it...but I did get the itch:D Franklin Gun Shop had a new Pro CDP in the case, and I had a Glock 30 that needed new night sights and springs...so...I now only have 1 Glock 19...and 3 Kimbers :-) The Pro CDP "melt" job is sweet. Now If I can free up a day next week to go shooting I'll be REALLY happy. G&L wanted 850 for the used piece, the new one was 1150. The Glock brought in around 450. With tax and background I paid 800, which is what they wanted for the used one.
  25. Friday's training was worth every penny! I'm in for the 20th class as well. Thanks again Len
