  1. I like the case holder part of that setup, it seems it would be a fast way to change out cases. How is that cutter mounted?
  2. The way the cheaper one works is that the case gets put in the shell holder, the case length gauge gets threaded into the cutter and you turn the case until it cuts no more.  Oh, and you will have to get this for the case holder http://leeprecision.com/lock-stud.html   I think midsouth carries the cutter and stud but not just the stud: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/0000690110/Cutter_and_Lock_Stud_
  3. You will need one sooner or later but that one is a PITA to use.  Unless you shoot thousands of rounds, you can just get the cheap one: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/0000690114/223_Remington_Case_Length_Gauge_With_Shell_Holder_?clicks=box2 and: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/0000690275/Cutter_with_Ball_Grip_ They make one without the wood handle, but you will want this one.
  4. Yea, I have heard that.  But in our M16s we didn't have any issues with any of our reloads doing just the neck sizing.  I currently full length size my AR rifle rounds now because I have multiple rifles in the same caliber so I may not of put this method to as much of a field trial to get a definitive answer one way or another.  Of course you get those that insist that a small base die is needed on ARs too.
  5. Don't be fooled, that cherry picked date and stories to cover are a thinly veiled anti-gun theme. How many crimes were prevented by guns?, how many guns were legally purchased to commit a crime?, why has crime gone down? This could of been more of a question about how we as a society have become more violent, and how we as a society have become fed up with bad guys having their way so we are arming ourselves and preventing violent crimes. But no, they pick stories where most anyone can sympathize with the victims and where a weapon was used for evil purposes.
  6. Not quite accurate, if you are using brass which has already been fired from the same weapon you intend to shoot from then you want to just neck size. You full length size when its either range brass or you have multiple weapons you want to shoot the rounds in. When I shot competition, we would each collect our own brass and just neck size for the next series. The FCD is good for ARs to keep the bullet from being set back, great for tube mags too, and helps with accuracy. My bolt actions dont really need it but I have done it on my .308 since I started and am starting to do it with my .270 now that I got the FCD for it.
  7. What many of these anti-gun "projects" fail to mention are the number of weapons which were legally or illegally purchased and of course how many guns were used to prevent violent crime.
  8. I seen where you had to bump up your order so this may not work, do the math, but I would seriously consider the Lee dies. Check them out here then look at midsouth for price. http://leeprecision.com/reloading-dies/
  9. Yes, I did mean all gun shows in general. I also make allowances for local guys selling at their normal prices. But it seems to me that some raise their prices at gun shows or at least bring things not moving at their place. At the last show I went to in Hopkinsville powder was $10 a lb more, .22 was outrageous, 300blk reloaded ammo in baggies for almost $1 a round etc, etc. The only thing I found which was cheap (to me) was some plastic .308 german training ammo I got for s&g. I don't know, maybe I have just been jaded by all the old shows which I gage these new ones by and it just hasn't sunk in that this is just the way it is now.
  10. For my pistol I just leave the roll crimp which is done on the seat die. Does the FCD do much better on pistol ammo? On my rifle ammo I use an FCD but with a very light crimp, it comes with the pace setter set so I only have it for a few calibers because I got the two die set way back when. I just picked up a used one for my .270 for $10, but since it already does sub moa I am not sure how much it will help; just couldn't pass up the price.   You shoot long range? I don't shoot further than 400 yards most times and can do quite well at that range but back in the 80s I was on a shooting team at Ft Bragg and reloaded on my Lee single for competition, I must say it did pretty good. Some teams had other brands but even then I didn't see much difference except things like the primer catchers which I must admit I dislike on my lee. I don't knock the other brands, I just can't see that much difference at the target. Especially now that my target has gone to an 8" vitals area, and I rarely shoot more than 100 rounds per session at the range so my Lee keeps up.
  11. I think the reason is because these shows have been taken over by people trying to screw the unknowing public. I used to attend these to get decent deals on things I needed like parts, powder and ammo etc. But it seems that the prices are much to high on most things there with just a few exceptions. Lately it seems I can get much better pricing via the internet even with shipment and hazmat fees.
  12. True, but once you get a round through all the stages each pull after will be a completed round so close enough for me. But I use it as a single stage anyway as I do all my sizing and depriming prior to tumbling, then I charge and seat rotating stations by hand. I couldn't tell by the pic on your link, that a three hole or four? I have the three but if a four was available when I purchased I would of went that way, the fourth for the Lee FCD on my rifle rounds so I just throw it into the lee single stage. Honestly if their Breech Lock Challenger kit was available it would more suit my needs. The quick caliber change of the turret press is what sold me. But now I have a turret for all my calibers so it would be too expensive to change now. I load every caliber I own with the turret press, even tweeked a few wildcat loads so I am not sure of the need you guys require an expensive press for. When it comes down to it, its just a matter of marketing with a few little gizmos thrown in. I just use the extra money on expendables.
  13. I have mostly Lee products and have reloaded since the mid 80s with no issues.  I would get this one though, you can use it as a single stage by taking off the index rod or as a progressive when you feel better about the process.  I recommend this one:  https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/0000690928/Value_Turret_Press_Kit_  As stated above the scale is a bit quirky but it does work, but eventually you will want a digital scale.  If you reload many calibers get extra turrets so you can leave the dies installed and switching calibers is a 10 second process.
  14. Yea, it looks like you should be ok. As long as you have more than a paper thickness between the two it should work.
  15. No, I am ok the aglets are permanently attached which makes up the extra cautious 1".
  16. Good thing I use the 16" long shoestring or I would be in trouble. :ugh:
  17. Actually, your not wrong. I dremmel may be able to just remove enough material to accommodate the scope with possibly not having to cut the rail off. How much clearance do you need, and do you have pics?
  18. I had been out 4 days, and only seen a coyote, a bunch of squirrels and chipmunks and one fat little woodchuck. I had finally decided to come out of my stand about 5 minutes before I couldn't see and there they came, by the sound of them there had to be at least 5 or six of them. I kneeled down to get one in the scope hoping it could gather more light but nope, only managed to see a tail before I lost all the light. Still, snuck away with a smile since just earlier I didn't think mother nature would share her bounty with me. Went back out again today, perfect temp, a bit breezy but not bad. I usually stay in my stand till noon before I break for a bite, today I had decided I was going down at 11, but just as I was getting ready I glimpsed a doe going down the hill into an area I could not see into. I decided to use a bleat to see if she would reappeared, took about 5 or 10 minutes till two reappeared. I put the scope on the closest one but she had her vitals behind a tree so I used the extra time to slow my breathing and waited for her to present me a shot. Seemed like forever but she finally gave me a quartering shot. I dropped her with what turned out to be a lung shot, cocked for a followup (reflex, never used one) and seen the second had gone 10 yards and stopped with the opposite quartering shot so I dropped her too with a heart shot. Both were DRT though the second flinched a couple times. I guess mother nature is generous after all. [emoji7]
  19. I got a stihl farm boss and a poulan pro, I got the poulan first and I have used the heck out of it. I had to replace the chain tension sprocket but I must say it lasted quite a long time before I wore it out and the old one was plastic vs the new steel one. The stihl, well its a stihl no issues there.
  20. Nice, I seen one the first day of rifle but let it pass because I didn't want to spook any deer. Turns out I should of taken the shot since I didn't see a thing after that except my ever present tree rats and a wood chuck which has taken up residence on my property.
  21. For most people, it will make no difference since they may never get into a situation where they need to draw their guns. But if you carry that way you need to get some snap caps and practice drawing and racking in a smooth motion. It can be done quite fast but it needs to be muscle memory.
  22. I have an older, 10+ yr, API Grand Slam and though its on the heavier side I like it. Its rock solid and with how the seat is adjusted I just can't fall out of it.
  23. In this particular case I agree, the parents are not model citizens and probably did little to bring him up right. But there are some that are bad all on their own, no matter how good their homelife.
  24. I have had one ask, I just responded "wouldn't do any good otherwise". He just nodded in agreement and let me go about my business. I think most expect them to be locked and cocked.
  25. Bound to happen, I would be hard pressed to stay in that crowd too seeing what they did in ferguson.
