If you end up having to order, here is a site that is pretty good. Powder, Inc. | Master Distributor of Goex, Swiss and Schuetzen (powderinc.com)

Gonna tell mama that I need to get one cause all the cool kids are getting them.....
-
Well, that is unfortunate for them. Good fortune for you, though.

So, maybe I'm missing something, but he hasn't even fired it and doesn't like it?? It's just based on what his dad did to it??

Kudos on the research. 99 people out of 100 have no concept of how much time it would take to do all that you mention in those last couple of paragraphs.

That is an absolutely beautiful job and if I had not already spent double my lever gun allowance for the year already, I would snatch it. Couple of questions... Is the ladder sight that you installed old and of similar period to the rifle or a newer one. Can't really tell. Also, did you have to tap and re-thread when you mounted the saddle ring? I can see where you filled a couple of small holes with little screws on that left side plate. Thanks for showing this.

Yeah.... Like our tax dollars.................

BP Mortar/Cannon - Local builders? For Sale?

If I were to ever get the urge to launch golf balls into the wild blue yonder and never find them again..... I'd just grab my golf clubs. -
So, I guess my bench vise and a pipe wrench is out, right?? Just kidding...... I have no clue.

Ironically, I am awaiting the arrival of a rifle that is a reproduction of historic classic (Sharps model 1874). While there is a serial number visible, it was a custom job and the original manufacturer was/is not known by the seller (I got it from GunBroker). The Gold star seller said that since that was the case, he had to ship it to my FFL. So, be very careful with this.

Snaveba, From the reviews, it sounds like the installation of those double set triggers is not that difficult. Have you ever installed any and is it fairly simple?? thanks

Thanks for the links. I have been looking at Vermeer sights from Montana Vintage Arms, as well.... SIGHTS - Montana Vintage Arms

I just scratched another lever action itch that I have had for some time. It is a reproduction of a Sharps 1874. I would like to add a period accurate tang sight and see if I can replicate the "bucket shot" from Quigley Down Under.... It is chambered in .45-70 so this makes two in this caliber I've added in the last month. If I see another one that I really want I'll just take a cold shower or something.
-
That's a real beauty. Shame it had been neglected but after the disassembly and lube, I'll bet it moves nicely. Nothing is as satisfying as the cycling of a good lever action that is well oiled.

Probably not a bad idea. The monsters are no larger than before but there are more of them and they are more emboldened since the current judicial system tends to side with them. "Better to be judged by twelve than carried by six....."

I'm impressed with how well Taurus has handled this. Of course, I have always like the Taurus handguns that I have owned, but this is exceptional customer service.

I agree with these comments. I had a .357 Rossi about 25 years ago and it was a great handgun and built like a tank.

Military Gun Show - Louisville
Choatecav replied to Choatecav's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
More than you can "shake a stick at" Seriously, there were scores of them. By the way, this thread was from last years Military/Gun Show in Louisville. I also went to the show this year and it was covered in US 1911's. I bought a Winchester 1886 this year. -
I agree with BigK on all of this. Mine will eat almost anything and while I do clean it, on those occasions where I have run high volumes of dirty ammo through it, not a problem.
-
Answer: NOPE! I sent a link to this thread to some shooting buddies of mine from out of state. I think there's about to be a "run" on this little fella...............
-
Same here.... Didn't know they existed. Nice review and thank you.

In your experience, when shooting the heavier loads, do you find the crescent shaped butt stocks more comfortable than the traditional flatter ones or does it matter?
-
Thanks for that suggestion, Greg. I am reading about this receiver sight on the Providence website. Might give me a good option to consider. I'm gonna chew on it.

Yesterday, six friends and myself, piled into a van and went to Louisville, KY. for the annual "Show of Shows" at the Ky Expo Center. We went last year and were hooked. It is absolutely unbelievable. Anyway, while there, I channeled my inner "Snaveba" and found this Winchester 1886 in 45 - 70 at a price I could not pass up. I have been wanting to get something in that caliber for some time, so this sort of allowed me to scratch a couple of itches at once. Have not shot it yet, but hopefully that will be in near future. I want to add a tang sight and Marbles makes a really nice one that allows adjustment for both elevation and windage. However, it is going to require drilling a hole in the tang and they recommend a gunsmith to do this. I am not set up for such an endeavor. Do any of you know of a good and reliable gunsmith in mid-state area that might do this?
