  1. Do they let you double dip like a lot of dudes on Active Duty do? Most people 3+ years use their TA or Monty GI Bill then also request FAFSA and get the $2000+ for free almost. Not sure the ethics behind it but everyone in my unit to include my 1SG, CO, XO and OPSO do it that way. I was going to do Computer Sci with an emphasis on Network Admin then branch more into Cloud Computing/NETSEC with graduate work I want to know if my experience as a COMSEC custodian/IA will play a roll, not sure if the NSA lets IT companies play with classified encryption and keys at all. 2. Man its our best guess. Pretty reckless imo Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  3. They were doing an exercise off Farsi Island. They were River/SWC boats Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  4. Is this the part where we send Delta to crash some helis? ETA: They ran aground and the boat drifted into Iranian waters. Engine problems or such Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  5. I believe it is something like 40% luxury tax, and then whatever the fed tax/social secuirty % is off the top. Hence itll be better to take the lump rather than the annuity and keep getting smacked for taxes. Also, not buying a $100M mansion helps... Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  6. Hell I dont care if it was only 100,000 after taxes...Id be a happy MFer. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  7. Shepard Master?! Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  8. Yeah I didnt get a warm and fuzzy from those "competency units" Ill probably go with a much cheaper in state online program. I want to save my GI Bill for Masters/Phd work so ill go for some FAFSA action Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  9. I knew it! Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  10. I have enough creds for an associates but I havent enrolled in a program yet - just tons of military schools that doesnt mean a whole lot of anything to the IT world. I suppose online will be the way to go - does it matter really who it is through? I was looking at WGU but they have some pretty stringent acceptance criteria and insist on having a CompTIA cert. 11. Do not get me wrong lol, I still love my Glock Family - but there is just some additional sex appeal to an all-metal gun that ISNT a damn 1911 (I have a few of them as well)   I do want to get a CZ75 (or two, or three) in the line up as well. But the wife is VERY particular in looks - last 3 I showed her she gave the proverbial "kill the gladiator" hand signal to lol.
  12.   Ain't that the truth.      Another question I have is once I am in the field, I assume to move up (eventually) to managerial/directorate positions I'd need to finish my degrees/get certifications? How big a role does that play in the private sector?    Obviously the military couldn't give a rats ass how good you were - just how good you look on paper
  13.   That is what drew me to communications coming from EOD - the dynamics are always pretty challenging but really rewarding. Honestly, I feel it is easier doing RSPs on 107s than it is re configuring a switch sometimes...       The Army is like a jaded ex-girlfriend that tries to convince you staying with/going back to her is the best thing and that your life will end if you break up with her.   Hell - everywhere I have been, be it an EOD unit, SOF unit, the 101st, 10th MTN, I have met higher level staff officers and Senior NCOs I would not trust to mop up a McDonalds bathroom, let alone be in control over the lives of a few hundred dudes...
  14. As promised, I made it out to the range this weekend and froze my ass off and got some trigger time for the first time in 2 months. Didn't do too bad at all, and my reloads didn't go boom on me (powder check die FTW!).   If you didn't catch my Steal of the Century - I was able to get a CZ97B and 3 mags for the equivalent of $275 - and contrary to popular belief it wasn't booby trapped, or defective.   Ergonomics - Frame:   - I have decently small hands for a dude, I struggle to have a good grip on my Glock 21 Gen 4 with no back straps, even though it is a double stack, the CZ-97B with wood grips is pretty slim (1.253" vs 1.412" on the Glock 21 Gen 4). - The grip angle is between a Glock and a Sig - it just points very well and feels great in the hand, along with a very aggressive high beavertail to get up on the bore axis and not worry about slide/hammer bite. - The trigger guard has a very sleek undercut as to not break your knuckles and the trigger guard itself is spacious to shoot with gloves (I had to, it was 10 degrees with wind chill). - The weight of the frame is very balanced, for an all-metal gun it does not feel like you are hefting a warhammer. - The safety and slide lock/release are very big and well pronounced - but not to give your support hand any issues. The safety is easily manipulated with the thumb - but the slide release is a bit to far to reach with your firing hand comfortably, the tip of my thumb can hit it but I can't produced the force to quickly release it; bigger handed shooters will not have this problem. - The magazine release, I felt it is a bit on the small side, again I have small hands, but it does not protrude far enough to manipulate easily, especially with gloves. - The slide has standard serrations on the rear, a lot more plentiful and aggressive than a Glock and Sig - so it should not give anyone an issue.   Ergonomics - Trigger:   I am a striker-fired/SAO hammer fired (1911s) guy until I traded for 2 Sigs - and those DA pulls are VERY good. However - the CZ's is better on DA. It is not stagy at all, even given the fact that the hammer can be half-cocked. It has a very beefy (but not nasty looking) smooth faced stainless trigger - and whether you pull with the tip of your finger, or the first knuckle - it fits well and does not slip. I prefer to shoot Single Action, and that break is as crisp as can be. I cannot discern a difference between the SA on a Sig, or CZ - but the CZ has a much more tactile and audible reset than my P220 or P238 do.   Shooting - Feel and Accuracy:   Needless to say, being an all-metal handgun, it absorbs the recoil (what recoil there is) of the .45ACP - it makes follow up shots SO much nicer than say on my Glock 21. Partnered with the high 3-dot night sights my CZ97 has, target acquistion was very easy. The rear sight is adjustable for elevation and it (looks) like the front sight is adjustable for drift/windage. I was shooting 230gr FMJ Blazer, Fiocchi and Winchester White Box and grouping about 2" at 7 yds. Then with my 200gr plated hand loads (Win LPs, 5.7gr Bullseye) I was grouping 1" at 7 yds. I am not the best shot, but the CZ97 makes me seem better than what I am.   Other Features:   There is a small stainless pin that pops up on top of the frame to serve as a loaded chamber indicator, which is very subtle. The grips can be interchanged, and have some sort of springs on the inside to keep the magazine from wobbling around. The feedramp is very polished and steep to assist with chambering. The hammer is skeletonized and serrated - and can be carried in a half-cock position to take a little uptake out of the DA.   I am not the best at reviewing guns - if anyone has any questions or would like to shoot it, just let me know. I will try to get some pictures up when I am able.
  15.   I can adapt to any situation, I guess dealing with Brigade and J6 levels of crap gives me to intangible ability to consume BS lol   Honestly at this point, I want a job(s) lined up that pay a little more after taxes than what I make right now (40-50K?) and that I'll have opportunity to progress - and if not progress at least learn new technology/techniques that'll carry over.   All I know is what ya'll tell me - as far as the Army goes my SIGO is telling me to go to OTC to tryout for CAG's commo squadron, my NCOIC is telling me to go to JCU and my squad leader is telling me to become a warrant.    I kinda just want to be a regular guy, and not a camo-wearing cog in the machine
  16.   My area of enjoyment is honestly troubleshooting and doing upgrades - active directory stuff, setting up stacks, tunneling, patching, stuff like that. Granted that is all we were kinda able to do with the 101st - most of the server side stuff I did was pretty classified and used a lot of KGs and TACLANEs, not sure if that translates over into the civilian sector.   I have a lot more experience with VMWare now than I did, but I did get told to look into PowerShell - I do not have a lot of experience doing remote stuff     I definitely did not voted for Obummer lol, I trust ya'll a lot more than I trust Glassdoor so looks like I will be giving those meatheads a wide berth.   As far as proposed changes, or changing in the TACSOP - how is that usually met by upper level management/directorate? Is it the high brass doesn't care and lets you do something if you can show it'll help? Or is it more that they get paid more = they're right and you need to pound sand?   Not that I want to jump right in super-moto and start steam rolling people, but more to the point if I identify some screw up, that usually upper level guys will give the OK if I am/prove to be competent.   I'll shoot Jonathon a PM - it'll be confusing if I do get hired there, I am a Jonathan.    Thanks again for the answers on Asurion lol
  17. I know that role all too well - thats the bad thing about this new equipment we have in the 101st, the civilian contractors would hardly let us touch the stuff for improvement but I got the hammer dropped on me when we were out on mission and a classified switch decided to crap out. And no offense taken at all, I am pretty competent but am by no means equivelent to someone with similiar time in the civilian sector as I have in the Army. I have been studying for MCSA for Windows Server, and may get a waiver for CCNA through Syracuse. Anything I should be aware of in the private sector? Is there any extra autonomy given, what type of work is to be expected and how the command climate/OpTempo is? Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  18. I appreciate that summary very much Lager, I gathered a lot of what you were saying from the Glassdoor reviews of the company - I deduced it was straight up brown-nosing, slightly-controlled-chaos.   In a way, that is what I dealt/deal with every damn day, the whole idea of transitioning is to NOT be as stressed as I was, granted it comes with the territory. Especially since it is very political and favoritism based, that right off the bat makes me want to seek gainful employment elsewhere.   If I may, what did you do when you worked there? The jobs the headhunters keep sending me from there are Windows Server Admins, Active Directory Admin/Engineers or top tiered help desk/NOC stuff.   Also - how big do industry certs play a part? I have not yet completed my BS for IT, should I use my gun money and go ahead and register to take N+ and MCSA exams now?
  19. Going to be transitioning out of the Army here in a few months - command is letting me pick a day so I got some questions. Ill most likely be commuting to Nashville to work for a firm, anyone know of anything in the Clarksville area that ISNT DOD? I am done with the door kicking camo wearing, and have no desire to work for the govt. I have been getting emails from Asurion's head hunters, Ive read great things on Glass Door and they always have windows admin jobs open, anyone have any experience? Ill be spending my leave I sell back on some certs, got a waiver for CCNA in February, any industry certs I should knock out now? Studied for MCSA WS 2K12 in the past but didnt get a waiver. A+? N+? Any other firms/companies I should know of? Obviously competetive salary and forward progression/advancement opportunities are high on the list. I have a resume if anyone wants to take a look. Thanks in advance Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  20. Midsouth Shooters has all of that...its near Clarkville though, exit 11 on I24 Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  21. I dont like Vickers stuff at all - OEM Glock extended furniture works better, for cheaper. I was unimpressed with a gray RTF2 I shot yesterday - its like a gen 4, except 200 dollars more The only reason his garbage sells is because "hurr durr he was CAG" and all the tactikiddies want it. The only aftermarket I like is the Zev flared magwell if youre into that. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  22. Idk its in Kentucky...it can easily turn into a Whiskey Tango version of a Mexican donkey show... Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  23. I just want to get my FFL 06 to get bulk comps from Black Hills.... Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  24. Hell yeah wargames ill come over in full kit and tackle you Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  25. Ahhh okay. I had a durp moment. Dont get me started on that ripoff "I was Delta when they crashed helicopters" Larry Vickers bullshit Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
