In my neverending dilemma of wanting a rifle and also not wanting a rifle caliber I wanted some feedback on an affordable, but effective, 9mm "pistol"/PDW/Carbine. This will be for plinking, and serve some role as a truck gun/HD. I was looking at the POF MP5 and Zenith MP5 offerings - theyre a bit expensive, minus the Form 1 and HK parts id slap on em. I was looking at AR9s, but have only heard bad things about their reliability. And I havent seen a rifle length one. In the best world Id get a 10.5" barrel and pin a Ares Breath muzzle brake on it. That also brings me to a segway - anyone here that can machine a muzzle brake on a lathe or whatever? Those Ares Breaths are near 180 after shipping and tax. Here is my $.02 - that, and half a baloney sandwich after a week will give you a fungal infection. Just like was touched upon in this thread, you do not need any permission to exercise your 2nd Amendent right anymore than your 1st - the caveat is obviously doing it safely and not infringing. I understand the HCP class helps instill the basic, bear minimum safety protocols - I do not even think that is a good argument to keep it around. There are plenty people who have HCPs that are still brain dead when it comes to fundamentals. End of the day a person's willingness to learn is dependent on them, the HCP class is more of a "check the box"sort of thing. Training is a subjective idea. By that people think someone who doesn't flag someone or chamber checks is trained - to someone else a SWAT guy may be considered "well trained" As long as they arent pointing guns at random people, or breaking laws, no problem. What I am trying to say is I support the idea of ConCarry. Id rather have someone with minimal training be afforded the ability to carry concealed and protect his family and not worry about the politics behind it. I understand the state makes money on it, but I am sure of all money they make HCPs arent bringing in a huge amount. And if you want recipocrity (sp?) You can take the test and pay for it. I am a Glock guy through and through and I one point I owned 10 of them. CZs and Sigs are in their own league - being hammer fired, all metal guns theyre different than Glocks and the like. I have both, Sig has 1911s, SAOs, DAOs and tout the fact that Mil/LE use them. But theyre German meaning theyre expensive. Never had a problem with my 2 - but for brand new youre talking near 1000 for a gun. CZs are way more affordable (even their higher end stuff compared to a high end Sig). They fit a bit better with me, and they dont fail. At all. Ive had my 220 and 239 FTE or stovepipe not my CZ. So being a Glock guy my favorite gun is my CZ97. You got to put in money to make money as they say. In this case the money you make is what you WOULD/COULD spend on factory BS. I have an XL650 setup for 45 and 9mm - with a casefeeder, conversion kits and dies plus 4 extra of each pickup tube was $870.77 to my door. For 9mm POS 115gr UMC target ammo is around $230-$270 after tax/shipping depending where you get it. So median market val of $250. I get 1000 primers for $30. 1# of Titegroup for $15. 1000 Plated for $78 or 1000 Coated for $69. Brass is free - I only use half a pound per 1000 so around 120/1000. If I bought in stupid bulk it would be cheaper. For me that works out - 2 hours on my XL650 moving slow as hell and plunk testing every so often I can do 1000 9mm, convert to 45 and do 500 of those. So at the end of the day I only pay half yearly ($3000-5000 savings) what I would on target ammo. My ammo outperforms anything I can get on the market. My ammo doesnt fail. It is a fun hobby and with deals/sales online I can cut the prices lower. If you try to save every penny by casting range lead and robbing ranges of their brass and going through dud boxes and pulling rounds and buying powder in mega bulk then more power to you. I had a Kimber DW I bought from some dude for a song and a dance and I realized why. The chamber was super tight - much tighter than a regular 1911, only thing it would feed was steel case - for some damn reason. Called Kimber, told them its second hand but they wanted to see it - got it back with the chamber wider in 2 months. Started keyholing on me and grouping like straight turd - looked inside the barrel the muldoons smoothbored about an inch or so of rifling some f--ckin how. I called them, told them they were retards so they sent me a new barrel for "free" ....sent me the wrong damn barrel Bastards. Called them AGAIN. Laid into them this time, sent the pistol back AGAIN (and their POS "free" barrel)... Got the POS back 3 weeks later. They managed to scrape off the finish on my slide. Whatever. Now the barrel functions and isnt tore up. Go to the shoot it...the bushing decided to go full haji on me and exploded or something, just sheared off, damn spring plug goes flying off....cant find it. Call Kimber. REALLY PISSED NOW. These dudes told me I mustve broken it when stripping it. No replacement, REFUSED to believe something as cutting edge and high speed as a Kimber could fail...even though they machined a faulty barrel and have the logistics ability of a RETARD! If you use the turret kind of like a manually indexing progressive then itll be a bit faster especially using a powder drop/drum and a bullet feeder tube (Lee offering). I love my Frankford Arsenal hand deprimier. Uses different size/depth collets to deprime, and you can adjust the tension. The decapping pin is also pretty thick so it wont snap - however it sucks when you get a POS perfecta or tulammo brass case with an off center flash hole and have to take it apart. Good for watching TV can decap about 500 in an hour with a good rythmn. Only thing faster would be using a universal decapping die on a progressive press with a case feeder.
