Who says you need to spend big bucks to go long? Very nice for a rig like that, sine pare.

400M is more for the hogs if I ever go back near Eglin AFB/Crestview in FL, im sure taking deer will be much closer around here Dolo; By ethically you mean it doesnt kill them in one shot? Certainly would rather drop em in one. Hozzie, weight and ergonomics, my wife is 4'11" on patrol with just a plate carrier and issued M4 it looks like a musket on her. If it would cause problems with gassing/powder burn I guess she'll have to suck it up. Caster, dont really have much experience with pistol rounds other than 9mm. It is something to look into though, Ill add that to my list of consideration. Anyone know how loud a suppressed supersonic 6.8/x40WT round is? About as loud as a 556 w/ a can? Appreciate all the answers thus far.

Been pouring over reviews and numbers and other data about some wildcats, my wife now wants her own dedicated AR, just not in .223/5.56. In a perfect world it would be SBRed in the neighborhood of 12 inches. Suppressed, and be able to knock down bucks and hogs are around 400M accurately. Oh...and it WONT be 300BLK. Tried it, hated it...Can't really say why, she didnt like it either. Ive been looking a lot at 6.8SPC or 7.62x40WT. Almost sold on the WT but for our fever dream 12" Suppressed rifle...is that viable? I have ZERO experience with wildcats in the civilian/personal use realm; this is a purpose built rifle, not something Im going to jump out of a MH60 with. I am open to criticism and other suggestions/anecdotes on the subject. Id also like to try to buy the components in TN if I could, to avoid weeks/months of waits. So if anyone knows places within 2 hrs of FTCKY that have barrels/uppers in any discussed calibers. As always I thank you all in advance for your help, in yet another firearms endeavor.

I appreciate it, that was the scope of this post to find what concrete facts exist. I now know I was also legally wrong being I was the one who started the thing, regardless of the guy almost hitting me. I hope it never comes to the point of using deadly force, I dont enjoy the act of taking another human beings life, Taliban, drug dealer, doesnt matter. I know what I need to work on, and have more knowledge so thank you and everyone else who pitched in. -
Getting Tailed, what to do
CommsNBombs replied to CommsNBombs's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I was wondering the legality of it. Driving home, armed...someone gets upset/annoyed tails you. Ive been in a few armed confrontations, both here and abroad...I know what I am trained to do, Im not going to run I am going to confront them. I want to know, the moment I confront, on my property...what rights do I have? Can I draw...or is that considered aggressive? Is someone charging a car up on my driveway and jumping out considered imminent danger even if I cannot tell if theyre armed? What it boils down to is my area is high crime, my wife and I will always choose fight over flight. Is it within legal bounds if one of the known drug dealers tails us, comes on our property aggresively can I engage? -

My bad. It got double posted. Google Chrome had a tendency to do that to me Granted, yah we should not have flipped him off regardless of how close he came to hitting us. Im still undoing my bad behavior I picked up in the Northeast. Take the same situation, but without us flipping him off...just call 911? I didnt think theyd respond to a "some dudes following me" Just its better to think simpler. As I was.. -
Welcome brother. I'm originally from NYC, and everyone has accepted my Yankee-despotic-living self thus far. Come on down, the country (and the laws) out her are beautiful.

A little background on the title... About a month or so ago my wife and I were returning home from an errand, and we both left our pistols in the house. Mind you we both drive Mustangs, so a pistol under the seat is about as good as we can get as far as "easy to access" I can't bring my ACR or even my AR-Franken-pistol in them. We live near Walnut St in Clarksville by Providence Blvd, but even when my cousin was stationed here back in the late 90s was a bad neighborhood evidently, but that is besides the point. We drive up a side street, since our turn takes awhile, and some local thug was trying to back out his lifted Impala and I had to slam the brakes and beep at him and give them the 'ole New Yorker salute. We are driving down to our cross street and the wife says mentions he is following us. The guy is pretty hot on our ass, and keeps making a run at us. We have no guns. Not even a knife. Or anything that can harm him at all, so we loop our cul-de-sac, he's still on us...It took me racing out into traffic on 41A and busting an illegal U-Turn to shake him off of us. In that situation, I didn't think I could park, both of us bail, unlock both latches and grab our guns and engage this dude. Our first problem was leaving the guns at home like a pack of idiots. Now...in that same situation, had we been armed like we were supposed to, what would be the proper thing to do? Unbuckling and stepping out of a Mustang to engage a guy behind us takes long enough, and I am not that tall, and there is no cover either. Should we wait for him to make an aggressive move? If he had a weapon, and was on some mind-altering substance I'd have a feeling waiting would be the wrong thing. On the same token, should we both come out guns drawn (we both carry hot even in the vehicles) at the dude, yes, I realize tailing is pretty aggressive and if it were out of country on a government sponsored trip that'd be the right thing to do, but I am more worried about it legally. The CPD isn't a very big fan of the Army, last thing we need is to come out guns blazing and the dude just wanted to apologize or something. I have a feeling I am over thinking this...but both tactically (Without sounding like a call-of-duty'er) and legally, what would be the best way to approach a situation like that?

Sweet! I appreciate all the quick responses. Ill have to check Big Iron Munitions or TN Gun Country for the Octane 9 and ask them for the booster. I was thinking of getting higher sights anyway, I know the wife still uses them. Any ammunition I should stay away from as far as it not cycling or fouling the hell out of the can? Like steel cased or some oddball round like the "RIPs" ?

Whatttt?! Yah, thats happening. Thanks brother

I never really consolidated per se, just stuck with weapons in the "vanilla" calibers of 9x19mm, .223/5.56 and 7.62x39 And 20ga. However, if anarachy or alien probers invade, you cant carry ALL of your sexy .338, x40WT, 5.45, .25ACP crap with you...just a main weapon or two and sidearms. I got an extra set of battle rattle ready to go with a 556 PDW, a SR9 with 300 rds of 5.56 loaded and 5 mags of 9mm.

Time to check out Oak Grove/Clarksville Walmarts. Thats a good price point on 9mm. Wonder if they can beat bulkammo dot com's deal of 1000 rds of Blazer brass 115fmj for 234

Decided to not pull the trigger (no pun intended) on a 5.56 can, until I assemble the SPR, but that won't be until I get my backpay (which with DFAS, can be a few years). My wife has actually taken really well to pistol shooting, bought her a HK VP9 which is definitely our favorite pistol in 9mm and she wants a suppressor for it. On hkparts.net they sell threaded barrels for it, a little pricey but I haven't heard anything too bad about the barrel itself. We are looking at an Octane 9 to go with the 1/2x28 barrel they sell. My questions are... 1) Are the threads on the barrel true to bore? I dont think theyre actual H&K production...dont want any baffle strikes 2) Should I go 1/2x28 or go for that funky Euro lefthand (whatever the measurement is)? Or would it not matter? Heard left handed wont loosen up, Ill write it off as heresay 3) All searches and researching Ive done points to the Octane 9 being the best...I will NEVER own a pistol in a caliber other than 9mm nor will I EVER buy a 300BLK again...with those parameters in mind should I stick with the Octane 9? 4) Are there any parts Ill need to replace on the VP9? Springs or sights for it to function and be able to see the sights above the can? Thanks in advance!

Id shoot it. Half the Chicom/Soviet crap I played with before it got controlled det'ed down in Florida was WAY sketchier. Fired a PKM that litterally had a turd in the barrel...that smelt great.

Welcome Home Brother. If you ever need someone to watch your six, me and my wife will be glad to interlock fields of fire. Sine Pare -
Im sure the Fed can afford to take a hit on a $200 flat tax. Hell, before I left NYC they were giving away iPhone 4s with unlimited plans, vehicles, 3 bedroom units and food stamps to "low income families." Its a damn ancient and UNCONSTITUTIONAL piece of legistlation written into a tax law to mitigate the attempts of law abiding citizens such as ourselves to overturn it. SCOTUS and the ATF are lying to themselves if they think theyre stopping crime...SBR/SBS regs are so ridiculous. You can go to VA or PA and make a straw purchase for some gangbanger in NYC who will just cut off more than half of the barrel and grind off the serial numbers and merk some other idiot...BUT GOD FORBID I "shoulder" my AR pistol, I'll get the Long Law Schlong.

I think this is a good thing. Most off-the-street Joe Public's don't really understand the NFA, if they know anything about it. Trying to push to remove the NFA as a whole will scare many people into thinking everyone can go out and buy SMAW-Ds and M240Bs and run amok with them. Targeting individuals parts of it like the 1986 MG Ban or Silencers would be a good way to start. This might actually catch some ground, especially with all the pissed off gun-owners (myself included) that are still riled up from the "Penetrator" ammo ban.

556 Cans...Bang For Your Buck?
CommsNBombs replied to CommsNBombs's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
I suppose so. I was trying to find out if the SpecWar 556 was the cost effective way to go. Now with the end cap, what is the price range I'm looking at? Trying to pitch this to the wife on a military paycheck is going to be the hard part, she still scoffs at buying something I can't touch for a year. -
556 Cans...Bang For Your Buck?
CommsNBombs replied to CommsNBombs's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
Trololol...perhaps. I was just under the impression that a .30 cal isnt as good as a dedicated 556 can, hence why I posed the question. Either way, my budget is more around 900 including the tax stamp. If I could find a Sake 762 for a decent price point Ill do what Dolo suggested, but if not itll be the Specwar 556, barring any random sales in the areas between Madisonville, KY and Nashville. -

Don't you get blowback and decreased decibel reduction using a 7.62 can with 5.56? -
So finally got my Trust notarized and given a GO by JAG. So its suppressor time. My first can will be for my 556 rifles, for use on my 16" ACR and (eventual) 18" SPR. I "MIGHT" put it on my 8.5" AR for Shits N Gigs, but it'll be on the longer ones mostly. I'm looking for something that won't break the bank, and I am going to stay away from AAC...its a personal preference. I want something sturdy, that the mount won't disintegrate if I bang it against a tree. It won't be handling a large volume of fire at all. 200 rounds a month is an overestimation. I also want something that will not undergo crazy POI shift, especially with the SPR. Side question, do different bullet weights/twists affect the chance of a baffle strike? I am really looking at the Specwar 556, especially since the one at TN Gun Country is as cheap as its listing on Silencer Shop. Any other suggestions on par with the Specwar? Ive been reccomended other companies, but without any real substantial reasoning behind it other than that "It's a good company" I apologize for the wordiness, and thanks in advance.

Good copy on all of that Jct. I probably will go with a more expensive barrel, I was checking more to see if any of the midpriced SS barrels were good. Think I might go with a Noveske in the end. Im also trying to keep the weight down, as much as is possible...granted Ive humped Scar 17s, ACRs, SAWs and all sorts of other funky shit along with demo and radios, but Im not going to the Box, itll just be fighting paper. Does the BCG really matter that much? Ive never used more then cheap no named Bolts and Carriers on all my Work and Personal weapons, never gave me an issue. I was looking towards a 3.5 lb Timney single stage. But I might just take a stone and file to a SS anderson mfg FCG to lessen the pull.
