I need a new bow - probably get a Mathews from Benton's Shooters Supply in Benton. I also need a complete upper to finish off my AR. Is there any progress on the bill to allow HCP holders to carry while hunting (bowhunting)? I remember reading about it awhile back, but I didn't turn up any new info with the search feature. Hope it makes it through before this fall

That's how I see it, too. Looks like "and the serving of such meals shall be the principal business conducted" is a gray area. Reminds me of the previous discussions about % of food sales. There are some restaurants / bars out there that I am not sure if their principle business is serving meals or serving alcohol. Fortunately, many places like Applebees, Outback, Olive Garden, etc. do not fall within the gray area. However, places that are just bars with food are questionable. For me, I think it will have to pass the common sense test. Would I ever (at any time of the day) go to an establishment for the principal purpose of eating a meal? If so, it probably has a kitchen, dining room, and principle business is serving food. Very happy that it passed

It is just a big loop that any belt can go through. It's nice because it is easy to slide around from strong side to a cross draw position - makes driving easier. I'll take some pics of my setup with the Ruger and post them.

I have one but in .44mag and I love it. It's my carry piece when I am in the woods. The balance and handling is really good for me. I am pretty accurate with it (especially for a 4-5/8" bbl). I got mine from Buds Gun Shop about a year ago. I carry it in a Hunter's Company western holster and belt. I can carry it all day very comfortably. I went out yesterday and finally located a gobbler! He was across a flooded creek on a ridge. He gobbled just about every time I threw a call out for about 3 hours. I was patient, but he never came across the creek. It was also thick timber and steep terrain, so visibility was limited. His gobbles would get louder, and just when I was expecting him to commit, he would turn back. He would answer my calls with a gobble just about every time until I had to leave. I attempted to sneak in closer, but the creek was like a raging river from all the rain. I just couldn't cross it, and the woods were too thick to see the bird at any distance. I needed him to come to me and my dekes out in a clearing on the trail, but he had other ideas. Maybe henned up... or maybe he could see me... I am hooked on spring turkey hunting now more than ever! I couldn't hunt today, but I might be able to get out for a few hours tomorrow late morning.

That's kind of my thought. I think they know it is a loosing battle right now. They might try to slip it in when we are least expecting it, after the mid-term elections, or near the end of Obama's term (hopefully only one!). I think they know the timing is bad to get new gun control passed, but they still want it. Hopefully the availability and price of guns, ammo and AR parts will start to improve soon - I need to finish my AR build!

Well, I have to say that this thread has encouraged me. I just started turkey hunting this year, and I have not heard a single gobble. I have found tracks, I have seen birds (hens) on the roads near my hunting land, and the land owner claims to have seen lots of turkeys. I always enjoy just being in the woods, but it would be nice to at least locate a turkey. I'll just have to keep at it... I am looking forward to getting back out there on Monday. I don't know how long I will stay out since it is gonna be HOT, but the morning should be nice. Another newbie question: If I haven't located any roosted turkeys or strutting zones, should I just setup in a likely spot and hunt it? or should I put effort into trying to find the birds even after sunrise?

That makes sense. You're right - I hear crows all day. What about an owl call? I was driving home from turkey hunting this afternoon when I noticed a hen walking in my lane on a 2-lane country road. I drove right up to her, and she just casually looked back at me as she walked very slowly off the road and into the trees. It was an awesome way to lift my spirits after not being able to locate any birds in the woods. Can't wait to get back out there...

I've hunted deer for years, bu this is my first year to ever hunt turkeys. I have come to the conclusion that they must be smarter than me . I could have hit two with my car on the road today, but not any action in the woods. Actually, I stink at hunting these birds because I'm new at it... It makes me feel a little better that they may not be as vocal this year because I can't locate them. Do you guys use a locator call? My problems are also compounded because I am also hunting a new and unfamiliar piece of property. I don't want to hijack the thread, but any advice for a newbie turkey hunter on basic locating techniques is appreciated...

I received the same response from Corker yesterday (word for word). It also came with an attachment explaining his position on 2A. Says he is a hunter and avid shooter - or something like that. I let him know that I would not vote for him next time around if he votes for any kind of AWB. Have not heard a thing from Alexandar.

I tend to agree with places like Blockbuster and others that are in a highly competitive market. It's easy to go down the street to another video store or Netflix, etc. I think it has to be a competitive market for a boycott to work. Dollywood is a unique business without much competition (around here anyway). I don't think I would carry in there anyway, sign or not. Too much body movement on the coasters and too much water on the water rides for me to worry about a gun. I know it stinks to have to disarm if you don't want to, but the kids like the rides...

Good idea about the bow. I will probably do that because that is my favorite method of hunting anyway, and I will know that I am legal for both. I have seen turkeys and hogs at the same location where I plan to setup my blind. Hopefully they are still there... Originally, I was thinking shotgun for my first turkey hunt because I have never hunted turkeys before, and I will will need all the "help" I can get. Plus, I guess I am a little chicken about launching an arrow at a hog from ground level without a gun nearby just in case. I probably just need to focus on turkeys and enjoy it. I'll have all summer to chase hogs, but at least with my bow I will still have the option if a hog passes by the blind. Thanks for the advice! I can't wait to get out there.

I plan to hunt turkeys next week on private land. I know that possession of ammo larger than #4 is not allowed. Neither are rifles or handguns. Now here is my dilemma... There is a good population of large hogs on the land. I would like to have the flexibility to shoot hog or turkey because I could encounter either one or both. I will primarily be hunting turkeys, but I would hate to encounter some hogs with only #4 in my gun:nervous:. It is private land, so I can legally hunt hogs year round. Being checked by TWRA is unlikely but still possible, and I like to keep it legal. Can I hunt two species at once when turkey hunting specifically prohibits ammo capable of hunting hogs? Maybe I should just go hog hunting and carry some #4 in case I encounter a turkey;)... turkey decoys and calls might give me away, though. What I would like to do is carry a couple of slugs with me or my .44mag on my belt and under my coat in case I see some hogs or fresh sign. At that point it would be a full-on hog hunt. This seems like a gray area to me because I can legally hunt turkey or hogs, but can I legally hunt turkey and hogs? I am trying to figure out what to do... any thoughts on this???
