Well, I'm thinkin if I hurry up and order one I may also be able to get into the navy seals by the end of the week. Or maybe even the Pro Delta Recon Seals! But I'll have to ask my mom first if I can order it.

I was very interested myself until I saw the price point recently. It seems that anytime you have something new come out, especially if it's been hinted at for a while to build up the anticipation, you'll inevitably have people willingly paying high prices. If, later on, there's a DRASTIC price reduction, I may spring for it. But certainly not right now. I have some other projects on my plate right now anyway.

It wasn't in vain. You said what you felt like needed saying. I think most of us here agree with that.   But of course, you know us. Anytime something comes up, we're going to have fun with it. After all, I think it helps to inject a little humor into some situations. Unless of course it's too serious and there's nothing funny about it. There are certainly times and situations where we need to be serious, and most of us recognize that. And there are other times and situations where some folks take everything way too seriously, or not seriously enough. Wisdom and discernment in all situations is key. I'll use my personal life as an example. When my fiends..... I mean friends.... and I talk or get together, we harass each other almost constantly. Unless there is a serious situation going on, then we deal with it in a serious manner. As we've gotten older, I believe we've all realized that life is too short to not have a sense of humor and to not try to interject some joy into life. I believe the Lord has a sense of humor, after all, He made me! So I try not to take myself as seriously as I used to, and I try to be more lighthearted now that I have gotten older.   So, what you did and said here was anything BUT in vain. To me, it has served to bring the issue to the forefront and get folks to be more courteous to each other. AND, it seems to have gotten us back to lightheartedly harassing each other too! ;) So, I for one have enjoyed this thread, and I thank you for posting it.

Good point though Dolomite, I've been guilty of that myself. Although most of the time it's in person. Seems I'm getting bad about it at church. Hmmmm. :)

Actually, we are. We're responsible for every projectile fired.    And, unfortunately, this is true as well in most departments. You would think that departments would concentrate MORE on a skill that, while we all hope it never has to be used, that skill can mean the most (whether a good or bad outcome) at the most critical moment. I have known a lot of firearms instructors in departments over the years that, while they themselves might have a high degree of gun handling ability, they only concentrate on getting officers to pass (barely) the most minimum of requirements. It's as if they're proud of their own weapons related skills, but they would sooner be kicked by an angry mule than to pass those skill on to others. Some of us have been trying to change that for years, but we're getting NOWHERE! But, that's a discussion for another thread.

Dolomite, I'm sorry about what you had to go through. That investigator and that DA are some bad examples. I myself am also not a tech guru, and I wouldn't know how to find an IP if you handed me one with a bow on it. BUT, I have a DA's investigator who DOES. I just worked a "spoofing" case recently. Can't go into details since it hasn't gone to court, but they spoofed a number and made a call with the intent to get someone arrested, which they succeeded in doing. I had my suspicions, brought in the DA's investigator, proved it, and prosecuted it. Your case should have been treated the same, as yours was MUCH more serious. The failures you experienced just blew my mind. The fact is, people are becoming more and more evil with each passing day. I have no doubt that if someone had shown up you and your wife would have taken care of business, but I'm glad it didn't come to that. And KUDOS to you for pressing the fight and not giving up.

Wellllllll, you do with me (if you want to). If I see you open carrying in my jurisdiction I'm going to be asking you questions. Such as: "What kind ya got there?"; "Caliber?"; "Like it?"; "Accurate?" And, most importantly: "Didja get a good deal on it?"  :woohoo: Yes, I do that all the time. Most folks seem to be pleasantly surprised that they've run into a cop who's a certified gun nut. I've met some really good folks that way. Of course, the problem is that I usually wind up standing there having a good conversation for quite a while instead of working. :surrender: I always like to encourage people when I see them exercising their Constitutional rights And I forget who said it on here, but they're right about the fact that someone who's up to no good is probably not going to be open carrying. And, to answer your question, yes, people can be and are prosecuted for making false reports. Though not often enough.

I do believe with a midlength profile, you need to go with a known quality manufacturer. I have read that on some midlengths there can be problems if the barrel gas port is not done exactly right. I used to have a Spikes lightweight midlength and had zero issues with it.

Well, the pros are good, and the cons are bad. Other than that I'll just sit back and watch and learn something myself. :stalk:

Yeah, I'm watching and hoping that one from PSA will go on sale. If there's one thing I've learned in the last year or so it's that I really like PSA's merchandise.

Or, it slides back and forth even when over tightened like the junk Sun Optics brand I bought from Midsouth. Learned my lesson there. I appreciate the link, Runco. I hadn't even thought about looking on Gunbroker, it's been so long since I've done any shopping there. This has been an aggravating search, but I have, after all, learned a couple things from it. I didn't know before this about the mil spec and commercial differences, and, if I'm going to buy a used one in person, I'll take my calipers with me. Sometimes keeping a promise can be an ordeal, and I know it'd be easier (for me) to tell him "here, just go with this sight instead," but it'll be worth it to keep my word.

Good question. I was wondering if it was a typo and they meant "GI." I haven't been on Gunbroker or Ebay in a very long time. May just start looking there.

I had heard of such a thing with Bushmaster at some time or other not using the F marked front sight post on flat top rifles and having a lower height carry handle. I've heard of the same thing with DPMS. I've read the measurement is supposed to be .835 from the bottom to the top of the "shelf" that the sight assembly sits on. And you are correct about the crummy ones. I have two of those now that I can testify to. Also, Palmetto is where I'm doing most of my shopping nowadays. I just looked at that one today. I might have to wait and catch it on sale.

Maybe I haven't looked enough, but I'm going to have to admit on this one that I just don't know everything I need to know. The only sight my son wants for his AR is the old fashioned carry handle, so I gave him my word I'd find him one. So that part's settled. Just the "doing of it" needs to be done. I got him one at Midsouth Shooters Supply a while back, and it turned out to be one of the worst pieces of junk I have ever picked up. I've since learned that there are "milspec" and "commercial" varieties (haven't looked into this in a long time). He does have the "F" marked front sight, and I do know we need the milspec. The commercial height will be too low. Picked one up at an Army surplus the other day, should have taken my calipers with me.   So the question is: where on this green earth can I find a mil spec carry handle for an AR without paying over $100 like I've seen in some places? And, which ones are good to go as far as measurements and quality? And which ones should be avoided?   They used to be common as dirt many years ago, but I know things change. I know there are a lot of good detachable sights out there, such as the Matech, which I use on mine, and the Magpul. But, that's not what I told him I'd find for him. So, here we are. This little adventure has gotten a little bit frustrating, so any help would be appreciated.

How DARE you try to think for yourself! The way you talk, you'd think that's part of what this country was founded upon or something! :usa: Funny how when the people this society sees as "free thinkers" - progressives (liberals), dopers, anarchists, atheists, pedophiles, and YES, MUSLIMS, just to name a few, among all manner of other ungodly crap - want to practice their version of "free thinking," they are not only left alone, they are applauded. But when conservatives wish to think for themselves using old fashioned things like common sense and morality, and when we dare to have the desire to be able to defend ourselves and our families, we are lied about, demonized, and shunned. Well, like someone else said here, I've gotten to the point in my life that I just don't care what they think. And the more people shun me, well, kinda makes me happy. And, as for those "uncontrollable free thinkers that value liberty," seems like I read somewhere that they are kind of how we got here back in the 16&1700's. I, for one, am all for continuing that line of thought! Caster, methinks those Redcoats with brown knickers just weren't used to folks who had gotten fed up with bowing down and being enslaved.
