1. I have a Remington 700 VLS .308. I don’t really care for laminate stocks; they look cheap. (Just my opinion) I like the walnut hi gloss stocks with detailed checkering. I’m kicking around the idea of finding an old solid walnut BDL short action stock and opening it up for the heavy barrel of the VLS and maybe glass bedding it. It would be a lot cheaper than buying a new Wenig or even a Boyd. Other than the barrel channel needing opened up is there any reason this wouldn’t work?
2. That’s just because of the holiday weekend. But this storm could give them a chance give us a real good hosing.
3. They are already laying the ground work for the $1 or $2 a gallon gas price increase that will follow.

Gun Prices

I see. So you think that by purchasing from a private owner the weapon magically becomes untraceable? What is it you think “the government†is going to do with that information?
5. K-mart must be doing something right, they bought Sears.
6. Don't need to post names for either of these guys. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXUpdBvu3Vo&feature=related]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXUpdBvu3Vo&feature=related[/ame] [ame= ] [/ame]

Gun Prices

It seems to me that used gun prices have sky rocketed in the past few years (I’m talking just the last five) I’m sure the internet and the availability of a quick sale face to face has a lot to do with it. If you look through the local gun sale forums you see used guns being priced at or above what you can buy them for new. Now…. There are only two reasons that I can think of for that occurring. Either there are a lot of uninformed buyers out there or there are a lot of buyers that can’t pass a background check. I see posts where someone says “I’m just trying to get out of it what I gave for it.†Well no kidding. I would like to do that with my cars but I can’t. Or someone posting “that’s a good price†because its 50 bucks off new retail on a used gun. And I’m not talking about guns that may fall back under a ban. Five years ago it wasn’t hard to find a good S&W .357 mag revolver in the $300 range. Today they are asking $500 for a run of the mill shooter. I don’t know if they are getting that; just an observation. What do you think? Discuss.
8. You should have stayed with it and finished at about 2AM. Now you are doomed to spend all day finishing it. You will finish up around midnight to 2AM. Sorry, that’s just how it goes.

Magwell questions

Pro’s…. If it’s a competition gun it allows for faster magazine exchanges. Con’s…. If it’s a carry gun it’s just more crap in the way.
10. I don’t know but I would make a WAG that the rubber band is a device that will be addressed in some ATF regulation or law. You will find out because you will get the attention of the On-Target guys when you do it.
11. Get a good set of Brown & Sharpe or Starrett’s. Calipers are not a high precision instrument like a micrometer; but the cheap ones are not accurate and they don’t always repeat. The fact that they physically work means nothing if they aren’t right. You should have a least one gage block or gage pin to check them with; otherwise you have no idea if they are right. That’s why you can rotate the dial. There are applications for both digital and dials. Dials have an advantage in that you can roll a casing in them and quickly see out of roundness. Calipers are designed for quick measurement within a couple of thousandths. Any closer than that and you should have a micrometer.

That’s not necessarily a flinch. Your mind is anticipating the recoil. You are griping the weapon too hard and all the muscles in your hands and arms are “pushing†the weapon forward. When the hammer drops and the recoil you are anticipating is not there the weapon drops. You have to relax breath and touch the trigger off instead of jerking it (flinch). You need to have a firm grip so you can bring the weapon back on target, but not so hard of a grip that you are forcing the weapon around. You can’t stop the recoil so you just need to try to move with it. Dry fire. I don’t dry fire without snap caps, but that’s a whole other subject. Dry fire the weapon and practice your stance and grip. Find a stance and grip that is comfortable for you. Dry fire and try to lightly “touch off†the trigger without the gun jumping. Then go to the range and try to apply that. Many good shooters anticipate some and their gun will drop if the round doesn’t go off or if they hit an empty chamber. But if they put the rounds where they are suppose to be; that is all that counts. Get a .22. for practice. I don’t buy into the whole “you need to start with a small caliber†idea, but a .22 allows you to crank off a bunch of rounds at a very low cost. This just gives you much more trigger time added to whatever your other calibers are.
13. I do. Not saying its right or wrong. I understand that a HCP would be identified on a license check, but that doesn’t mean the Officer will come back up to your car and ask if you are carrying. Does this happen a lot? He could have got a warning or a ticket and been on down the road. Although he did find out there was a problem with his permit; it just sucks that it cost him so much to find out.
14. I am a former cop and I have always said that I wouldn’t do it unless there was a possibility the Officer would see the weapon. But that’s a personal decision each person has to make on their own. The "Officer Safety†stuff is ; a bad guy isn’t going to tell you he is armed and if the Officer wants to know the state needs to put it in the law. Personally I think people do it because they think it may get them a warning instead of a ticket. And it may well do just that. But it didn’t in your case did it? What happened to you was wrong. Sure the cop on the street was just doing his job. But the rest of the people in the chain weren’t. At the moment it was determined that it was a paperwork error, charges should have been dropped and your weapon retuned to you. A stolen check takes minutes; not seven weeks. The DA, the Judge, a Gallatin PD Command Officer; any of them could have ordered the return of your gun. Glad you finally got it back.

Kimber ?

Kimbers are great guns. I owned a Kimber Custom TLEII. I didn’t like the finish on it and am partial to S&W, so I bought a stainless SW1911. Both guns shot great and I had no problems with either. They cost about the same so price really isn’t an issue.
16. I’ve seen many of these cases. I have absolutely no information other than what you have posted to go on, so this is just WAG. You say this guy has been arrested three times. Did he go to court? What usually happens is that most of the cases are not stalking they are domestic violence. The “victims†don’t appear in court, say they don’t want to pursue charges, or keep making contact with the perpetrator. Usually without the family members that are trying to protect them knowing. Fathers, brother, etc, get caught up in this feeling that they need to do something. So they go kick the guys azz and then he is the “victim†and they go to jail. It was okay years ago, (it was called "mutual combat") but now days it isn’t.
17. I have never used a taser or been tasered. But I don’t think I have ever seen anyone on TV not comply unless they ripped the darts out. The problems I see with it is the cost, concealing it and deploying it. On the other hand I have maced more people than I can count, and been maced myself. I have seen big guys that you think were going to be a problem fall down and cry like babies; and I have used it on perps that acted like I was spraying them with water. I wouldn’t want to count on it, but I guess it’s better than nothing.

Question on a 12g

Is this a damascus barrel?

Would you trade?

No, because I can’t tell a fake Rolex from a real one.

low shots

Could be a lot of things. The first thing you need to determine is are you consistent. Run a target out about 15-20 yards. Shot six at the bull. Don’t compensate, just shoot at the same place every time. Repeat with six more. Are they grouped or all over the place? If they are grouped adjust your sights accordingly and try again. I don’t care how someone else shoots the gun; if you adjust it for you and you have good groups that’s all that matters. Flinching won’t repeat and you won’t have good groups. If I’m with someone that is having problems I’ll load them up and make sure there is an empty chamber without them knowing it. If when they hit that empty chamber the gun drops like rock, they will realize what they are doing. Different calibers (.38/.357) and even different manufacturers will impact at different points. Look for the obvious. Is a sight or sight blade loose?
21. If you aren’t selling them how is a regular course of business? It’s just collecting. Buy all you want. It’s like cars… you can buy all you want, but there is a limit on the number you can sell before you need a business license. The IRS bites much harder than the ATF.
22. I don’t know for sure, but because you are not a dealer I doubt it. Does <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Tennessee have any special statute for theft of a firearm? It’s a felony in Illinois (as in many states); so is possession of a stolen firearm.
23. I don’t think that is a very good example of anything except maybe why some people don’t want campus carry. Two kids got in a fight over a parking space and you are thinking gunfire would have been a better ending?
