  1. Happy birthday. Congrats on the wife and the new Colt.
  2. I’ve gotten in some pretty heated discussions, but I have never been banned from a forum. ….. yet.
  3. So you just signed up for the Smith & Wesson forum and you are going to make judgments about it based on your vast knowledge of one thread? Parabellum doesn’t make the S&W forum anymore than your brother does this one. The S&W forum is a wealth of information for Smith & Wesson shooters. I don’t like some things that have gone on here and I have said so openly; but I didn’t go post on the S&W forum or GT about them. This is a great forum here, and so is the S&W forum. I don’t think you should be allowed to drag their name through the mud here based on you not knowing squat about them. But then I don’t own this forum.
  4. It’s not “false arrest†and Police Officers operate under “qualified immunityâ€. To have a case you would need to establish that the Officer violated “clearly established lawâ€. As you can see from this thread there isn’t anything clearly established about this law. When innocent people get arrested they don’t get a payday. Goes back to the “legal system vs. Justice System†and “life isn’t fairâ€.
  5. MidWayUSA has great pricing on most stuff once you get a copy of your C&R to them. I deal with them almost exclusively as their prices are the best I have found. But their ammo prices aren’t anything to brag about; I have not found ammo on-line anywhere any cheaper than I can find it locally. But if you find out where this place is; come back and let us know.
  6. Any RimFire revolver shooters here? I’ve been thinking I need a full size .22 so I can get 500 rounds of trigger time at a low cost. What do you guys shoot? I’ve been trying to find a used Smith & Wesson 617, but haven’t had much luck.
  7. The CLEO doesn’t need to approve the application; it is just a courtesy from the ATF. It also gives your CLEO the opportunity to let them know if you are a nut case. Mail it here, and you are done. 8. I did and he still said he dosen't have what I want.
  9. If I get a chance at work, I’ll give you a call this morning Joe.
  10. Yep. And not a single reply...
  11. I’m looking for a Smith & Wesson K-frame .22 revolver. I’m looking for a used pre-lock right now. But if I don’t find something I may have to buy new.
  12. Thanks guys I’m familiar with Hero Gear; I bought my Panther there. But they don’t have what I’m looking for.
  13. I took a job in Shelbyville but don’t know much about the city. I’m trying to find a specific gun and wonder if there any places there I should be checking out. Shops, Pawn dealers, etc… Thanks in advance.
  14. I would like to give a class on what cops can and can’t do. In reading the replies on here when it comes to vehicle stops and warrants, I am really glad I took the time to explain these things to my kids.
  15. I’m not a Glock person, but I want one of those Glock .357 magnums.
  16. This is key. It is how I have been trained and I don’t think nearly enough time is spent on it.
  17. The difference in the first three is that one isn’t a crime, and one is a felony. Ring, Ring, Ring… Dispatcher: What’s your emergency? Busy Body: There is a guy out here walking around in the restaurant parking lot carrying a gun. Dispatcher: Is he doing anything wrong? Busy Body: No, I just have never seen anyone openly carrying a gun in public before. Dispatcher: Well if he has a carry permit it’s legal. Busy Body: I don’t know if he has a carry permit or not; do you want me to go ask him? Dispatcher: No, Mind your own business and only call us if a problem occurs or seems imminent. Busy Body: Okay. A couple of minutes pass…. Ring, Ring, Ring… Dispatcher: What’s your emergency? Busy Body: The guy I just called you about just walked into the restaurant and executed 10 people. Dispatcher: Oh my God, we have Officers responding. Busy Body: That’s fine but the need for Officers is over, could you please send ambulances?.... a bunch of them. There isn’t enough band width on this forum for the resulting posts of disbelief that the cops were notified of this before it happened and did not respond. The attorneys would be lining up to get their piece of the city.
  18. Because the dispatcher would be fired. Carrying a gun in Tennessee is a crime. Dispatchers aren’t cops and they don’t decided what is a legitimate call and what isn’t. At least they didn’t where I was from but I hear Metro is having some problems with that.
  19. A legitimate Domestic Violence call is the kiss of death for a firearms owner. Conviction means that your carry permit and gun rights are gone.
  20. Good God Man… you don’t get to buy anymore guns for 25 years???
  21. Limbsaver is made by Sims.... correct?
  22. I read some pretty good reviews on that. Guys saying they thought it cut the felt recoil by 50% and some saying it made their 870 feel like an autoloader. I wanted one for my .308 700 VLS; so I called Remington today. They said they don’t make it for a 700 VLS. I figured someone was making it for them so I would call them, but the lady said they make it themselves in-house. I forgot to ask her if they make it for 7600… sorry. But if any of you want to call the number is 800-243-9700. The search continues.
  23. Discretion and interpretation. (I’m speaking based on Illinois law) I had the discretion on a misdemeanor complaint to either make an arrest or not; on a felony I did not have that discretion. So let’s say that I am called to a posted business and it is a misdemeanor that can result in physical custody. You tell me you didn’t see the sign, weren’t paying attention or whatever. I can explain the law to you, tell you that the owners don’t want you carrying in their business, and if you do it again you will be arrested. I send you on your way with that warning. Now let’s say I get there and instead of you it’s Super K. He tells me that is not a legal sign and there is nothing I can do but ask him to leave. I put him in the position, disarm him, cuff him up, haul him off to jail and seize his weapon as evidence. Am I doing this because I am pissed at him? (Although that will be his story) No, he is letting me know that if I don’t deal with him right now some other cop is going to have to do it. He is more than willing to bring down a load of crap on all HCP holders because he is too ignorant to understand the law. He is also letting me know that he thinks that piece of paper in his pocket gives him some special privileges that supercede the rights of a business owner. Now on to interpretation. I have read the Tennessee law and the state Attorney Generals opinion on the signs. My opinion, based on the intent of the law, is that is a legal sign. And at the point in time my opinion is the only one that matters. He can then go to the DA, go to court, and may even have the charge dismissed; I don’t know. I did my job and have nothing to worry about. Now… Super K will be screaming that he is going to make a citizens complaint against me, get a lawyer, and sue me, my department, and anyone else he can think of. I would not be concerned about that one bit and would gladly explain the complaint process to him and get him the proper forms. As I said before I’m sure he can find a lawyer that will be glad to take his money and leave him with nothing. Certainly they do. They can make your life miserable and they can take your freedom. If you happen to run into a bad cop it can be devastating. It would be a bad cop that arrested you without reason, but it could be a good cop that arrested you for a reason that you may not understand or agree with. Well here are some thoughts and ideas…. Life isn’t fair. When the cops are called there are mistakes and misunderstandings. When you see that sign on the door and you make the decision to walk past it because of someone posting on the internet that it is not legal…. Stop and think. We don’t have a justice system; we have a legal system. The legislature is filled with lawyers. They make laws that you have to have a law degree to interpret. There are plenty of people on here that are interpreting the printed law based on absolutely no legal training. They don’t have access to case law and they are sometimes clueless to what they are posting. Know the laws. Especially if it is one that you are going to flagrantly violate like walking past a sign in a posted business or carrying a gun somewhere it is forbidden. How cops handle violations of the law can change city by city and county by county. If you want to know how a certain action will be handled go talk to the Officers from the department that will be dispatched to handle the call. Court isn’t held on the street and probable cause is a long way from beyond reasonable doubt. You are not innocent until proven guilty. When I arrested someone and hauled them off to jail, I handcuffed them, towed their car (if they were driving) and locked them up until they could post bond. If the charge happened to be a felony, they could be in jail over the weekend until they saw a Judge to set bond. Or if it was a misdemeanor and they couldn’t raise the money they could set there overnight. Then you get to pay an Attorney a bunch of money to defend you against a crime you may not have committed. Sound to you like this is innocent until proven guilty? And then if the charges are dismissed the arrest is still there and there are some jobs that you will not get because of it. Our legal system is not a game you want to play. Did I mention life isn’t fair?
  24. Or a name. They are people just like you and I…. they have names. And you may find that if you treat them as any other person you would meet; they will return the respect. A “Badge Number†is not some magical number that you need to know to identify the Officer. In this day and age if he stopped you or was dispatched to your house, just knowing the date, place and time will identify him.
