For the first 1000 rounds nothing would run reliably in my 597 except CCI mini-mags. If you go over to Rimfire Central they have a whole section of how to fix the problems. You gotta take the good with the bad. So it jams a little. But when you compare groups with guys that had to spend more on their barrel than you spent on the gun and scope; it will make you smile.

Do you for one moment think you have a right to possess a firearm outside your home? As expected, the SCOTUS stopped short of a 2nd amendment ruling. They ruled that you have a right to own arms, but not bear them. They left the door wide open for any type of law a state or municipality likes. The handgun ban is still alive and well in Chicago. Daley says the courts ruling does not apply to Chicago. If I’m not mistaken the last I heard from the Mayor and Chief of Police in DC was that everyone (including the Supreme Court) could go piss up a rope; they aren’t changing anything. So other than a pathetic picture of Heller giving thumbs up when he got his permit to have a gun in his home, or a J-frame S&W with some 2nd amendment BS scribbled on the side of it; what have we gained? 97% of Tennessee residents would still be committing a crime if they carried a loaded gun off their property… same as before the ruling. Illinois residents still can’t carry, and Illinois stands prepared to invoke states rights and defy the ruling if anyone tries to apply it to them. We fought a war over state rights; no one is going to fight a war over the 2nd amendment. So… you can do all the flag waving, give Constitutional Speeches, quote people that have been dead for over 200 years, and make statements about what the government can and can’t do all day long. But at the end of the day nothing has changed. You still do not have 2nd amendments rights whether you live in Tennessee or Illinois. Now don’t get me wrong… I don’t agree with any of this. I believe that we have a right to bear arms that comes from a higher power than the 2nd amendment. But to think that you have some right to bear arms because of this ruling is ridiculous. This has been a battle all of my adult life. I doubt that I will live long enough to see the next time the SCOUTS hears a 2nd amendment case.

I looked on GB for ones that actually sold. The only one that came up sold for $500. There is one that was just listed yesterday. You can watch it and see what it sells for. I don’t pay any attention to what anything lists for; just what they sell for. I would start right here. If it doesn’t move I would go to GoLSN and then to the national boards.

CMP has a forum with a sale section. Throw a WTB ad on there and see what happens.

Good question. I sold my Point Blank vest that I purchased myself and used as a cop. Of course it wasn’t camo and wasn’t that level. Is that a military vest?

In the last couple of years I have registered three new Smith & Wesson’s, a new DPMS Panther and a two new Remington’s with the manufactures. The warranty and factory support is more important to me than some tin foil hat notion that someone form the government will come knocking on my door. But that’s just my opinion. And there you have it. So no reason not to secure your warranty.

I have interest from a Tennessee resident in a rifle I have for sale. I would need to ship, and while I know that it is perfectly legal for me to do so without an FFL being involved, I was tuned down once (twice really, but the second time they recognized Smith & Wesson as being okay to ship to ) at UPS. I am required by Federal law to disclose that it is a firearm and was wondering if anyone has had any problems doing this. Or specifically if you have done it at the post office in Murfreesboro.

I see it as a “featureâ€. I wouldn’t buy a weapon based on that feature and I wouldn’t train pulling the trigger twice, but it offers that option in a slit second armed confrontation. I am absolutely sure that if I am carrying the weapon there is a round in the chamber. So that isn’t even an issue. Unless I’m in a group of people or there are a lot of people around; I am also firing at least two rounds, so the trigger is probably getting pulled twice whether the round fires or not. That could take care of the problem; if not I’m clearing at that point. If that spit second counts you are probably shot anyway because of your weapon failure.

I’ve never used one, but if you pull the weapon don’t you have to remove the holster from it?

Interesting that this is posted now, as I was reading the thread about the smart carry the other day. I’m a fanatic about weapon retention so I won’t use a holster that isn’t leather with a thumb break. But that’s just because of my experiences. I didn’t think the smart carry looked safe. But I dismissed it because it also looks very uncomfortable. If you had to run wouldn’t the full weight on the weapon be pounding you in the sack?

Because my AR shoots 7.62 NATO, is lighter, and has more capacity than my Garand. Okay,,,,just kidding… kinda. It wouldn’t be. A handgun or a shotgun would be better choices for a SHTF situation in your home. Because people are fearful that another ban will get passed. They are also assuming that there would be a Grandfather clause. Obama wants to ban ALL semi-auto weapons. That is most modern handguns and many hunting rifles and shotguns. A President can’t do that and I don’t think any President could get the support to do it. But you never know. As I said above…IMO it is a poor choice. If I needed a long range rifle to shoot Zomibies coming from a distance I would grab my Remington 700 bolt. Far more effective than my AR. You don’t need to justify it. It’s a toy and a hobby that is fun; that’s justification enough. If I had to justify all my weapons as self defense weapons; I couldn’t. Thank God I don’t have to.

With my experience being the streets and not the battlefield; this is the biggest problem I see in training. In our discussions here it is usually assumed that the HCP holder or the armed homeowner, being on the right side of the law and living at the foot of the cross will be the victor. Then it’s usually discussion about what the cops are going to do to them or what will a civil jury rule. I can’t remember personally responding to an armed encounter where the bad guy was down and shot at the scene by the good guy and can only remember hearing one over the radio. But I can remember vividly a couple of home invasions that I worked where the armed home owners were still at the scene, disarmed and beaten or dead. It is not unusual for bad guys to be better trained or have more weapons handling experience that the average citizen or HCP holder. I think IDPA is a game. But if a player doesn’t get anything else out of it they will get weapons handling experience out of it. Will they get experience anywhere close to the adrenalin rush of a real armed encounter? No, but it’s better than standing still at the 7 yard line of the local range, using sights on your handgun and calling it training. Will it get them killed? Certainly not as quick as complacency. I think it’s sad that training costs are so ridiculously expensive that most don’t attend. I think in a state that issues carry permits local PD’s should offer training free or at a reasonable cost. Maybe that’s later down the road when some Chiefs or Sheriffs with some vision decided to help.

I believe the 325PD is a .45ACP with an Airlite Scandium frame. An aluminum frame is going to have a lot of felt recoil, but the N frame is pretty big, so it may not be too bad. For revolvers I like the Hogue rubber grips over the Pachmayr, but that is just personal preference because of looks, both work great. Hogue has a few different sizes for that frame. Plus you might want to check over there for opinions from people that have already tried all the grips on that gun.

Isn’t the 325PD an N frame? I like the rubber grips for the range and the wood grips for carry because the rubber catches clothing and causes problems with concealment. But that may not be a concern with an N frame.

My opinion… wait a minute let me check this thread first….Okay… Is that if you want a semi it would be between Remington and Ruger. The 10/22 is hands down the most popular .22 on earth and there are a lot of goodies for it. The bad thing is that you need to rebuild it to make it an accurate shooter. The Remington 597 is an accurate shooter out of the box and (to me) is closer to the size of a full size rifle. The problem with it is that it jams like crazy for the first 500-1000 rounds. I don't know jack about a Savage.

This thread is useless without pics. What flavor 700 did you get? I recently got a 700 VLS in .308 and added a Leupold VX-III 6.5X20. I’ve been pretty happy with it.

I know they have put external safeties on some of the .45’s, but on the 40 Compacts? No, that takes a few days and I am ready to buy right now.

I’m thinking about getting an M&P 40c. I want one with a magazine disconnect, no internal lock, and a standard 6.5 lb trigger pull. These are the SKU numbers from the S&W web site. It appears to me that the 109203 is what I want, but the “California Compliant†is kind of scary. The .308 will do what you want (long range accuracy). I think if you compare ammo cost between it and the designer calibers you will find that if you shoot much you can just buy a .308 AR and call it a day. Then you have both rifles in either caliber.
