  1. $1100 sounds like a good price, however you feel about these rifles. The only one I've ever seen was $1500, and it was not the SWAT version, or whatever it is called.

    LDA vs. SA

  3. I am in a similar situation. I generally carry a Glock 27 or 19, but want something smaller to use while running/jogging. Right now, that gun is a P3AT, but I don't have an abundance of faith in the .380's stopping power, especially coming out of a 2" Kel-Tec. I am considering a Smith 442, but I am not overwhelmed with the stopping power of snub-nosed .38s (although they are an improvement over a P3AT). I have a holster in mind that I am going to use in a G27 jogging experiment, but if it still feels too bulky, I will probably pick up a 442. Ironically, the Glock 27 is lighter than some of the revolvers often regarded as the most comfortable/concealable.
  4. Neero, Midway routinely puts those AR Stoner mags on sale for $10. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=679432&t=11082005 http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=895719&t=11082005 BTW, where did you go to shoot your AR?
  5. I've shot one. It is an improvement over the standard 21--like Mars said, a little less real estate from front to back, but the same width as the old one. Also, it has a new ambi-style mag catch, and the option of getting Glock's standard rail or a 1913-spec rail (I wish they still offered standard dust covers).
  6. I perceive a general feeling that older, fatter guys are incapable of doing more than quickly consuming beer. Competitively, I have been outshot, outrun, and outsmarted by guys who had 25 more years and twice my girth. NEVER judge a man strictly by his looks.
  7. So would you blast the UPS guy? He is usually unannounced.

    How small are your hands?

    Model 19 Glock

Not true. The 9mm cannot be converted to shoot the other calibers.
  10. I am a member. We shoot IDPA the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. Our fourth Saturday (this Saturday) was cancelled due to X-Mas, but a few of us are talking about shooting (not sure if it will happen yet). Come out and shoot IDPA when you get a chance--newcomers are always welcome, and you don't have to be a member to shoot in the match.
  11. Yes, the .308/7.62 NATO/7.62X51 mags are widely available and are usually 19 or 20 rounds. However, the few people that make 7.62X39 usually ship 10 round mags with their guns. 25 and 30 round mags do exist, but they are hard to find. Here's all DPMS offers for 7.62X39: http://www.dpmsinc.com/store/?cat=1831
  12. I always carry the same gun OWB, but strangely, have an easier time concealing in warm weather with an untucked polo than I do in cold weather with various jackets or vests that always seem almost too short. I have also found that darker shirts, especially ones with horizontal stripes reduce "printing."
  13. Maybe I missed something, but I didn't see anything about BDUs. Are they not allowed?
  14. I was referring to G&A; did not know CA does it as well. BTW, you guys sell pepper spray?
  15. Hmmm...sounds like his colleague Charlie Petty needed some marksmanship lessons. However, like you, I don't put a lot of stock in gun magazine articles. I would never base a decision on whether or not to buy a product on what some gunwriter said. I do, however, enjoy the informative pieces by Taylor and Ayoob in Combat Handguns, although they usually deal with tactics or legal issues, not products. And just for the record, I know a guy who had a kB in a .40 cal Glock. Like Speir writes, he was using his own reloads, and has, in my opinion, the terrible habit of picking up used brass off the range floor/grass. He and his wife (who still shoots a Glock) also routinely have FTEs and FTFs. Thus, I'll never be caught using his ammo. I would never reload .40 ammo for any gun (ESPECIALLY a Glock); the .40 round just leaves so little room for error (not that there should be ANY error). I REALLY wouldn't use cases (for any caliber) that I picked up and didn't know how hot they were previously loaded, who reloaded them, how many times they had been used, etc. Anybody shoot Tennessee Cartridge? Well, you're shooting about the lowest grade of reloaded ammo available commercially. Lousy quality control. One local store gives ~$2 off every box if you bring in the used brass from the last box. How many times that stuff has been used?
  16. My luck with 1911s has been, shall we say, "less than stellar."
  17. I wasn't trying to knock ya, but our local IDPA matches are $10 for six stages, and then you can stay and re-shoot the whole match for free. We may be more fortunate that we are part of an already-established club/range, and our costs are therefore lower. My apologies. $25 is just higher than any other match I've ever heard of (except sanctioned matches).
  18. Here we go again.
  19. Yes, .308s are plentiful, but I've always wanted one in 7.62X39. Even DPMS ships 10 round mags with their rifles, and don't even offer anything with a higher capacity. I have seen 25 round mags for 7.62X39 ARs, but they are few and far between.
  20. Yikes! $25 for non-members and only four stages? They are a little greedy, but first-time shooters shoot free. Hmmm...would be interesting to shoot some USPSA for the first time, as well as meet some of you guys. http://www.ntps.org/clubinfo.htm
  21. I have always wanted one of these rifles; in the past, I read several articles that claimed it would shoot with most bolt action sporters. The biggest mags I remember seeing for it are 10 rounders.
  22. If I walked into a gun store and saw an M-4 type carbine in 7.62X39, I would probably have a hard time controlling my bladder. The only thing that would keep me from buying it would be the scarcity of mags for it.
  23. The perfect 1911 for me? The one that would actually feed hollow points.
  24. Only Combat Handguns, mainly because Mas Ayoob and Chuck Taylor each have a monthly section (two guys I have a lot of respect for).
