the last guy I heard describe himself as a "warrior" was about 40 lbs overweight. The last battle he had been in was the battle of the bulge, and he had clearly lost badly. I think it is laughable, nor do I think there is much place for "warriors" in a civilian society. I prefer to think of it as being competant, even skilled, in a tool that I use for a variety of things, including self-defense, games, and other amusements. Very few people put the same amount of time into their driving skills as they do with their gun handling, despite the fact that multitudes more people are killed on the roads than are killed by guns. And I've never seen a video of someone demonstrating shift technique that has everyone else arguing how good it is or not.

I disagree. No one said anyone could pick up the same piece of equipment and do the same thing. But a bunch of us have said that with the same equipment and an equal amount of practice most of us could get close. I dont see any particular "talent" involved, other than some eye-hand coordination. As far as making for a "warrior", he doesn't claim to be (or I guess he doesnt, the video makes no such claim). Nor do I think being a "warrior" is what developing good gun handling skills is all about. In fact I think it's laughable.

A gun board is the only place where a video clip of some guy changing magazines could lead to a fight. It's a magazine change. That's all it is.

Something about lies and damned lies. For some reason "scores" of licensees having their permits revoked, where the number of actual licensees is in the hundreds of thousands just doesn't concern me. Here is Brady and below is a study that was done of crime rates etc.

Beating poor Black defenseless people for fun. These guys are scuzz of the scuzz. They deserve to spend a long time in the cell with bubba. Only sorry one of their victims didnt have a CCW and the means to teach them a lesson.

Amazingly no one has said so. The consensus has been that anyone, anyone, with the same gear and enough practice time could achieve results similar to this. Ed McGivern, probably the most accomplished revolver shooter until Jerry Miculek, writes that when he started he noticed he had no special talent for shooting. Everything that he achieved came from long practice. I am sure I could achieve mag changes to rival this. But the honest truth is that I dont care enough about making fancy impressive mag changes to spend the time on it. Call it laziness, I dont care. Bu the vehemence that some IPSC shooters approach their little pastime with is remarkable.

Does Alabama honor TN CCW Permits?
The Rabbi replied to creeky's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Thanks. Since I lack the photographic memory and encyclopedic knowledge of some of the posters here I tend to go to Packing.org when I have a question like that. I am told some of the info there is out of date. But I find the format much more user friendly than handgunlaw. And carrying a copy of the statute doesnt sound like a bad idea at all. If those of us involved with firearms have to look it up, I can't imagine a local LE is going to have all the details at his fingertips either. -
They are nice-looking guns. I was almost seduced into buying one myself. I've shot a couple and they are the nicest 1911s I've shot, and that includes a Les Baer gazillion-dollar model. But then I remember that at IDPA I have seen more Kimbers malfunction and break in ways $800 guns just shouldn't do.

Come, Mars. Come on over to the Dark Side.....

Yeah, I;m sure he's fast. And so what? I note he is using a gun that no one ever carries on the street, one that has been modified for this particular purpose. It is like watching Bob Mundell shoot single action revolvers. Yeah, someone spent a huge amount of time practicing and blowing off rounds. OK, if that floats your boat. Honestly about any of us could achieve mag changes with that equipment and enough time and effort in practice.

Does Alabama honor TN CCW Permits?
The Rabbi replied to creeky's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Actually you are. Reciprocity changes over time. When I took my class AL did not honor the permit. Now they've changed. I couldnt tell you whether MS honors it or not. I can tell you DE doesnt nor does Maryland just because I am planning a trip there and had to check. I don't think the class covers reciprocity in all 50 states, so it is a legitimate question. Personally the whole business is dumb, just a patchwork of states with some honoring and some not. Institute mandatory reciprocity and be done with it. -
LOL. Someone tried to port a classic Smith Model 19 pinned and recessed and they would be getting that view. For a while anyway. Savage.

I am not a fan of Marshal-Sanow. After reading that piece I am even less a fan of his. But he does make some good points. Intervening in an unknown situation is very very dangerous. The good guys and bad guys dont wear badges identifying themselves. The story of "man beating woman, cop/passerby restrains man, woman knifes passerby" has been told all too many times. Two guys fighting? I doubt I would do much. Guy beating on a woman? Call the police, be a good witness. However, I am more apt to intervene than Mr. Marshall appears to be. Maybe it will end up being the wrong decision but I could not sleep well at night knowing some guy's daughter got raped and murdered and I sat by and did nothing.

I actually find take down on the Glocks a PITA. The SIGs are much better. Of course the 1911 is the bottom of the barrel in that regard.

Nashville pawn shops are awful places to buy guns. Once I found a bargain, somewhere in Antioch. That's it. I've been in maybe half a dozen or more and not one had anything that wasnt either overpriced or clapped out or both. You could also PM me and tell me what you are looking for.
-
The gun was designed so a moron could assemble it. That's what makes them so great. I've heard of people who've never seen one and had no problem assembling the lower. If anyone in the Nashville area needs the armorers wrench please PM me as I have one collecting dust.

My daily carry is a 4" S&W Model 19 P&R in nickel that came from the White Bluff PD. How old school is that? But I also own SIGs, esp the 239 in 9mm and I have a 220. The SIGs are remarkable for their accuracy and reliability. The triggers kind of suck--I'd consider them the least attractive feature of the gun, esp compared with the 1911 where triggers can be made exceptionally precise. This is why the 220 SAO appeals to me. But I've never been a fan of polymer guns. I understand the advantages (and they are many) but except for the Steyrs they held little appeal for me.
-
Yes. The gun was designed for a certain purpose (to fire hardball rounds with acceptable accuracy reliably out to 50 yards), to be made a certain way (with machined steel parts hand-fitted by trained workers). For what it was designed to do, it does it extremely well. But the further you go from that original conception the worse it gets. That said, I have had an urge to acquire one. But I will probably end up with a SIG P220 SAO carry. Like I need another gun anyway.

That's OK. Beneath this gruff exterior is a gruff interior.
-
Bah! If it doesnt have a rotating cylinder it isn't a gun.

Smyrna/Rutherford County Door to Door Solicitation info ... Fraud alert
The Rabbi replied to a topic in General Chat
Not just yeah, but heck yeah. The two gentlemen soliciting has been the opening of some very nasty business in many cases. I would never answer the door without my buddies Smith and Wesson close to hand. Nor do I let my wife/kids answer the door without me lurking not too far away. -
Smyrna/Rutherford County Door to Door Solicitation info ... Fraud alert
The Rabbi replied to a topic in General Chat
Funniest thing I heard about was the 300 lb man who would come to the door for solicitations nude. Particularly effective on Mormons. -
There just aren’t enough people carrying
The Rabbi replied to DaveTN's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Quoted for truth. Avoidance is the best strategy of all. -
I'd guess it comes down to not what you are doing but who is doing it.
