  1. But i'll bet he's the only he knows of at that range professional enough to carry that Beretta 92...

Actually it is 5.7x28. FN makes several different rounds, one of which is AP and also restricted to LE. Rounds run about $20 a box of 50.

Other than "kewl" I can't understand why someone would want something like that. The ammo is expensive. I just don't see a lot of use for it. But hey, whatever floats someone's boat I guess. I'd want a P90:D
  4. Hadeous? The guy needs to be sentenced to a week's worth of marksmanship training.
  5. It has additional benefits in that avoiding taxes (i.e. cheating) will be near impossible, not to mention unprofitable. Also even illegals in this country will pay taxes (not that they arent now).
  6. Once again I question your economic literacy. The Chinese were not sitting complacently waiting for Wal Mart to come along. They were actively marketing their trade advantages. Wal Mart is not the only company to look at unit pricing. All companies look at unit pricing. As for Chinese buying stuff, there is a huge burgeoning middle class in China materially benefitting from trade. As for the "trade deficit" it is a chimaera at best. Nor does it pose a risk. I have heard these arguments (first involving the Japanese in the mid 70's, then the Arabs in the late '70s) for over 30 years. They have never come to anything, nor will they. As for unions, my grandfather a'h was a member of the ILGWU. Whatever unions were at the turn of the century, by the 1950s they had ceased to have any beneficial effect either for their rank and file or the country as a whole. People today employed get benefits like vacation days etc largely from 3 sources: 1) Gov't mandates. 2) Gov't induced tax subsidies, esp for health care. 3) Market competition. Unions represent a miniscule and shrinking number of industrial workers. They remain strong only in the public sector, where their bosses can acquiesce for increasing demands for salary and benefits and pay for it by raising taxes. MNPS is a prime example.
  7. I knew there was a reason I keep going back! And they do not account for a large chunk of our deficit with China. The fact that many manufactured goods can be produced more cheaply in China accounts for our deficit. If Wal Mart didnt exist we would still have the same deficit.
  8. Good! More money is better politics. As long as contributions are open and above board I really don't care who gives what. Let people see who is supporting Obama and who is bankrolling Hillary's campaign. Maybe someday people will get the idea that "the rich" actually are Democrats, not Republicans.
  9. I would support it only if it actually replaced the income tax. The same way I would support an income tax in TN only if it actually replaced the sales tax. If not then you end up with both income and sales taxes, eventually at higher levels than before. I would favor a flat tax, which most of E.Europe has gone to. I would favor eliminating a lot of deductions with lower overall rates. I would favor eliminating corporate taxes, which corps dont pay anyway. I would favor ANYTHING just about over the current system which tries to both raise revenue and engage in social engineering.
  10. I doubt that much. Most of those old guns were made for black powder and wont stand up to modern loads. One missing parts is worth even less. People have an idea that just because something is old it is worth money. It aint so, at least not in the gun world. Urse, I'm watching you the next time you walk in.
  11. I think you are in good company, esp among the cops I know.
  12. Well, THEY don't need it. By logical extension WE don't need it either. Of course I dont need tweed jackets and pipes so.....
  13. I think I can say with accuracy that Chief Serpas does not represent the average officer. I think I can also say his days as chief are numbered.
  14. There. Fixed it for ya! The Quincy chief is an elitist moron who himself probably couldn't pass a range qualification. Official distrust of armed citizens is a staple in the northeast. I thank Gd we live here where Metro PD often tells citizens "we can't be here 24/7 to protect you. You need to get a gun and some training how to use it."
  15. Urse, the question posed by Cannonfodder above referred to the '94 AWB, which dealt with semi-autos and he asked whether "EBRs" (meaning in that context semi-auto "assault rifle" style guns) had been used in crimes. So I answered, which was correct. As for converting them, yeah it can be done. Not too easily but it isnt rocket science. I don't think many crimes are committed with conventional "assault weapon" rifles, much less those converted to full auto. Most guns used in crimes are the basic Lorcin, Jennings type or Mossberg Cruisers. In other words, functionally indistinguishable from any other gun.
  16. Tyler, TX. Guy used a Mak-90. But I agree with Molonlabe that banning stuff is not the answer. As for the OP, there is no way the dad could have said that. Everyone knows the word is "choppa.":D NOLA is its own world. I dont think lessons there have a lot of relevance elsewhere.
  17. It depends. For real real close in, it's one handed with retention, i.e. butt of gun against my ribs. For close in it's one handed point shooting. For farther away 2 handed isosceles. I am cross dominant and find it easier to deal with it that way than Weaver, which I find unnatural.
  18. Uh, check the "accomplishments" of the TN legislature for last session. One of the bills passed made it a crime to engage in bestiality. I didn't realize this was a problem here (did you, Steelharp? Eh? Did you?). At least voting on stuff like that keeps them from doing even more harm, like imposing new mandates or passing universal health care or something.
  19. My wife is so mean she doesn't need a gun. She inserts the bullets manually.
  20. I thought you carried because you were afraid what would happen when they found out about you and your, um, "interests". I carry in the synagogue except on Saturdays and holidays when carrying is off limits. There was some discussion about maintaining a firearm on premises, locked in a safe, just in case. An unarmed congregation is a bad thing as lots of violent incidents seem to happen in churches.
  21. My understanding is that the Homeland Security Act allowed all LEOs to carry weapons anywhere in the U.S. But don't try doing that in Chicago or NYC. As for SCOTUS, even if they declare the 2nd an individual right, that does not mean states cannot regulate it, just as they regulate every other right. There is no absolute right to anything.
  22. Huh? The right to vote is given explicitly, but don't try to vote if you're 16 years old, or a convicted felon, or in this country on a green card. There is some debate as to whether the 2nd applies to states anyway. I bring up the drinking example as a way the Fed gov't imposes it's will on states regardless of states' rights. The late 55 MPH speed limit was another one.
  23. We still live under a Federal system where states maintain many powers of governance. Thus Pres Bush had to wait for a specific request from Louisiana before he could send National Guard troops etc. But the Fed has lots of ways to enforce its will. Why is the drinking age universally 21? It is because the Fed threatened states' highway funds unless they raised it. I am opposed to a Federal carry because it will come out at the lowest common denominator, i.e. the most restrictive that everyone can agree on. I am fanatically in favor of forced reciprocity, so a state must recognize another state's carry permit, regardless of what they themselves do. There is legislation pending to do exactly that btw.
  24. It's called the Internet. You can whatever you want shipped to your house and (illegally) avoid paying sales tax. That is, unless you get that chunk of aluminum with the serial number on it. Then you need a dealer. Also try www.ar15.com because people sell lots of used stuff there.
