The Citizen's Guide to Surviving Police Encounters
The Rabbi replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
+1. +1000 even. In general the folks here are the nicest, sanest bunch I've seen on any gun forum. Part of it I think comes from the fact that I see about a quarter of them on some regular basis. So it's more personal. And if you're irked because some guy expressed a negative attitude towards cops, I'd say you're in the wrong business. Because there's lots more and worse out there in the general public. -
better defense round - .357mag or .45ACP

Fifth Sunday IDPA-lite Shoot For TGO Members
The Rabbi replied to The Rabbi's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
Not good at details I see. JMR Gunsmithing, 44 Brush Creek Rd Brush Creek TN. Shoot starts at 1:00 PM on SUNDAY, that's the Fifth Sunday of the Month (thus the thread title). I would recommend getting there about 1/2hr or so early to fill out the waiver forms etc. The waiver basically says you will not sue the club if you get injured. Those are the times we live in. Cost for the shoot is $10. -

You ever seen a picture of a Ninja with a .41AE? No, of course not. It's that secret. And it doesn't need Xtreme Shock. If the bullet passes within 5 feet of you you'll bleed out just from the concussion. -
better defense round - .357mag or .45ACP
The Rabbi replied to nightrunner's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Heck, everyone knows the best defensive round is the .41AE. So effective there was a move among gun makers not to market it. Didnt want too many dead bodies in the street, is what I was told. -

That's the first person I've ever seen who actually wanted a .45gap. Why? There isn't anything wrong with the caliber, but it seems like other things do the same thing or maybe better. -
I think you mean the NRA. Um, did you read the article? Especially this part: Sure sounds like he has a problem with it to me. It is an incredibly bad idea. But notice this is being done in an area of mostly gov't subsidized housing. Those people are dependent on gov't anyway and here is the downside of being dependent. If they refuse I could easily see their continuing status for Section 8 or whatever being reviewed down the line. As for the cops having no problem with it, see my comments in the thread about rounding up guns.

better defense round - .357mag or .45ACP
The Rabbi replied to nightrunner's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I would tend to disagree that simply heavier+faster+wider=more effective. By that calculation .44mag is far superior to anything else out there. Or .500mag. But no one is going to carry that stuff for personal defense (disclaimer: I do occasionally carry a Smith 629 for SD but generally loaded with specials). I'd rather see actual street results. And those generally suggest that anything 9mm/.38 and over are going to be effective. -
PAchmayr Decelerator for the J-frame round butt. http://www.lymanproducts.com/pachmayr/revolver.htm Also try 148gr LWC bullets for practice. Very mild target load that isn't a terrible self defense round overall as well.

Harold Ford Pro-Gun?? Who would have thunk it?

+1. This looks like repositioning so he can win something. -
I'd trust my own crystal ball here. And mine says that no serious gun control measure has ever passed this legislature, and this sure isn't going to. That doesnt mean some retard from Memphis wont jump all over it and think it's a great idea. Just that the reps here are reliably pro-gun and won't go for it.
-
They are reliable, well priced guns. That's about the most I can say about them. Which is a lot better than I can say about some other guns. Someone here has a P345 for sale.

Fifth Sunday IDPA-lite Shoot For TGO Members

Not if you swear undying allegiance to the ghost of Ronald Reagan. Anyone can make a mistake. -
If you think there is any point of comparison then your moral compass is seriously out of kilter. That's all I'm saying on this topic.

2 to the body, one to the head. It wont matter whether it was a .45, a .357, a hollow point or a solid. All works good. It ends up with whatever you personally shoot best. And not to put in my personal preference but homosexuals will prefer bigger holes. Not that there's anything wrong with that of course. That's why I carry a .357. -
Actually that was FBI. But dont let details bother you. I dont have any problems with the fate of the Weavers. Why even bring it up?
-
Gunbroker is extremely accurate as it represents, imo, a true marketplace, defined by many buyers and sellers. But you have to see what things actually sold for, not what some greedy guy thought he would ask. And i steel gee ya fitty dolla. And a bag of weed.
-
Ah gee ya fitty dolla fo' it.

It isn't even a "feel good" measure. It's just plain stupid. How can you possibly monitor something like that? And since surrounding states dont have any restrictions at all how hard is it going to be to drive across the state line and load up? I think its the air or water or something out there. Does something to the brain.

Yessiree. I think it's a go. Barring weather, of course. But we'll deal with that when we get a little closer. -
The Citizen's Guide to Surviving Police Encounters
The Rabbi replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I think Eddie can get us all past this partisan bickering into a new era of cooperation and understanding. Or maybe that's Obama I'm thinking of. More seriously, the difference between abusive cops and abusive politicians is that when a cop faces a private citizen, there is a huge power discrepency. The citizen is literally at the officer's mercy for that time. So a bad one with a poor attitude can inflict some significant damage. And unfortunately there is no "kosher symbol" for cops so you can just look at one and tell he's going to be a good guy. Granted they have similar issues, being unable to look at the person they just stopped and know for sure he/she isnt going to pull a gun and blast him through the window. -

I think that's a little harsh. OTOH when I deal with police I always think "these guys are not my friends." And they aren't. They are doing a job. And some of them have the idea that the only difference between an honest citizen and a criminal is that the honest citizen hasn't been caught yet. -
Sure, I'll draw out the agony. Point shooting doesnt necessarily mean using the middle finger. I find the idea repugnant personally, but if someone can do it well, great. The only gun I've heard this really working on is the old Hi Standard derringer. And it works well there. My understanding of point shooting comes from the technique outlined in Shooting To Live and probably taught also by Rex Applegate. That is, hold the gun up mid line to the body with one hand only and point with it. It makes more sense reading how he describes it. I have tried this in competition often and it works fine. It is very fast, which is the point.
