That's true. But you can find A story to illustrate anything. Ed Lovette tells one about the undercover officer whose 1911 either failed to get off-safe or he re-engaged the safety. In any case he was killed. Does that make the 1911 a bad platform for PD? (my answer is yes, but that's just me). The one consistent factor I have ever seen in success or failure in armed encounters is: have a gun. Everything after that is secondary.

Yeah. And 18 yr old voting was so succesful we want to extend the idea.
-
One? One lousy story and someone is going to base his behavior on that?? You found it because it doesnt happen very often, if it all. How many people carry snake venom antidote in their daily carry?
-
I dont have a problem with that. That was the law here until some goobers who had gotten draft notices started chanting "old enough to fight, old enough to vote" in the late '60s/early 70's.

I wonder how many faygolas are over 21 and pack fudge. I dont know what that has to do with anything. I never knew anyone who had a concealed handgun in his dorm. Maybe at Pigsknuckle State U they do but not at any university I went to. Whether they do or not is not an issue. Illegal means illegal, remember? Again, look at traffic fatalities and extrapolate to handguns. It doesn't make for a good argument.

With the odds of any event happening defining the situation. Like I said. I am just not aware of any situation where a person armed with a 5 shot was overwhelmed and killed/injured and had he had another x number of rounds it all would have been different. Hard case to make.

It sure makes a difference in auto accidents. I don't know why it wouldn't in handgun carry as well.

Red's Trading Post / Government Intimidation

Count me unsympathetic and unpersuaded. -
Everything has a down side otherwise we would all be carrying exactly the same gun and ammo. In this case, in addition to the weight and bulk, there is the issue of how does it look to be in a fight and it discovered that you carry more magazines than an infantryman in Iraq. That could definitely be spun to someone's disadvantage. You were looking for trouble, that's why you carry all that stuff. Paramilitary mall ninja. It is at least as likely as running out of ammo.

Yeah, while I was waiting once I read the Nashville Public Library's rules and one of them is no concealed weapons. But it isnt posted anywhere. And with the vagrants who hang around the Main library I sure am not going to leave my gun in the car. Heck, I'll take extra ammo. What caliber for smelly bum?

Dont know, I wasnt there.

Where do you carry? (on your body)
The Rabbi replied to KahrMan's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yeah, I've noticed women spotting it too. And I dont use Thunderwear. -
OK, I wont tell you. But that's a fact. We draft 18 year olds (when we did that sort of thing) because they are physically fit and easily malleable and dont have things like wives and children. They're also done with high school. It used to be that 21 was legal for anything. And we still had 18 year olds serving in the military. I dont know why different ages for different things is so offensive to some people. Try renting a car when you're in 23. Try running for president at age 30. So what? I've already mentioned that the military is a completely different context from civilian life, especially for an 18 year old. Look at the stats on fatalities for drivers 18-21 vs drivers over 21. There's a reason insurance rates are so much higher.

Can you rattle off how many gunfights needed 10-12 rounds on one side to be resolved? I mean for the private citizen, not LEs. Although even LEs it is pretty uncommon (not counting the current mentality with 50 shots fired and 2 hits).

Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and shouldn't, use duct tape. If it doesnt move and should, use WD40. Actually the most useful item is a vise, preferably one that will swivel. Not much you can do without one. After that, screwdrivers, punches (lots of them), brass hammers, files, stones, and that stupid tool that is essential for trigger jobs on Smith revolvers.
-
I cylinder full of .357mags in the Smith 19, 1 cylinder full in the Smith 642 plus one k-frame speedloader full of .38, so 17 rounds total, plus various caliber bullets I stuck in my jacket pocket that I've forgotten to take out but make good demos. I'll be the first to admit this is way too much.
-
It just depends. A stock AR15 with good optics will be effective at least to 300 yards. The only change I would make to the gun is the trigger. For more gee-whiz you might consider an upper in .204Ruger, which I hear is the ne plus ultra of varmint calibers.

I'm pretty entertaining. But look at it this way: you pay money to go into a gun show and walk around and look at guns you can buy, or try to sell yours. You can do the exact same thing in my shop. So why shouldnt I charge just like Bob Pope or whoever does?
-
I was just trying to sell you the gun. I wouldnt want one of those things anywhere near my privates. You can never tell. GCrookston, you have the right idea! Whenever you show something, you have to show it in the best context. So you show 3 ugly houses and then the one you really want to sell. I see you are doing that in the pic--showing one real man's .45 (the one with the revolving cylinder) next to the sissy guns. Right on!
-
Hmm, maybe I'll start charging a cover to enter my shop.....
-
You dont have to write "lousy gun show". There is no other kind. The internet has killed gun shows. In the old days, if I had a Dan Wesson Pistol Pack I'd be lucky if one of the 200 people a week walking through my shop wanted it. If I took it to a gun show I might find the one person in 500 or so who went through who wanted it. Today I put it on Gunbroker and the one guy in 20,000 who will pay stupid money for it 'cause he's gotta have it is going to see it and bid on it. I wont show at one and whenever I go I am impressed by the high prices and low quality of stuff there. The only mystery to me is why people spend $10 to get in.
-
In the full sized gun I like the Sig P220 for its to hell and back reliability. In the compact I was impressed enough with the Glock 36 to consider carrying it. I dont own a 1911 because I'm a heterosexual.
