  1. Uh, oh. It is perfectly natural for people wanting an HCP to pick a course that is going to fulfill that requirement. It equally natural they should want it at the minimum cost and maximum convenience. We all lead pretty busy lives with economic stress thrown in. And the truth is that most private citizens involved in self defense shootings have not had any more than the minimum training in how to operate the gun. And they come out fine. So if someone wants more training and experience, there are plenty of excellent courses out there. But I think reading and practicing will deliver more "bang for the buck".
  2. Mars, what in the video is wrong? Its been about 8 years since I saw it so dont remember it well but did think it was pretty clear.
  3. I have to agree that a course that is meant to satisfy the requirements for the Tn HCP should teach exactly what is mandated and no more. Anyone who wants additional training can easily find excellent trainers for basic through advanced pistol. The point of the course is to enable the student to obtain his HCP, not to hone his shooting skills. THat said, whatever is taught in the course needs to be up to date and correct.
  4. Hmm, who could that be? I wonder... Can anyone Name That- Anyway, I dont teach the class. I got certified as an NRA instructor with the idea that I might down the road. After being in the gun business and selling a few to people who were interested, there was no way I was going to be anywhere near these people with a loaded gun. People will always try to "game the system" and shortchange students because it takes time and energy to do it right and if no one is looking, who cares? That's too bad. So the moral of the story is buyer beware. Check reputations and interview instructors.
  5. I dunno, Brian. I thought he was kind of cute.....
  6. No, the machashafeh is usually at work but gets home before I do.
  7. Yes, Glen. Welcome to the Dark Side. The Kool Aid tastes great.
  8. Yuppers. State requirement. And yes, thumbs every time you do one. And no they aren't readable.
  9. I dont know that they cost taxpayers a lot of money. How much does it cost to print and mail the stupid things? I am bothered because it is so degrading to the customer to be fingerprinted like a criminal. And pointless.
  10. IDPA has any number of regs about holsters. SInce this is in IDPA-lite club match, it really doesnt matter to me. The essence is to practice what you normally wear. But if you want to test out a super-ninja rig or whatever, I'm fine with that.
  11. But Len, They're exploitative of women. And they bring crime with them. And...and.... Yeah, OK I dont believe that either. But those are the arguments. Memphis can less afford the loss of revenue than Nashville, which is still a major tourist attraction and convention center.
  12. Listen to almost any Democrat these days. The message is: 1) you are miserable and your life isn't worth 2 cents because your living standards are parallel to those of Belize; 2)Evil Corporations and George Bush are to blame; 3) Vote for me and I'll get you what's rightfully yours.
  13. If those idiots from the '40s had crafted literacy tests properly so there wasn't a racial motive then we would still have them. And probably better politicians as well.
  14. Five years for the stupid fingerprint card Twenty years for the 4473 Forever for the A&D book.
  15. It's "The Man" keeping them down.
  16. Yet another business-boosting move from Memphis. How long until that business relocates itself across the river to AR or south to MS?
  17. Smiths are made by American craftsmen. Taurus is made by Brazilian peasants. There are actually design differences. The Taurus uses a plunger and spring for its cylinder stop, loaded up through the yoke tube. The Taurus cant be worked on as much. And customer service with Taurus stinks.
  18. It was a no-brainer. The stupidest anti-gun bills come out of Memphis. It is easier to blame guns for their immense crime problem (2nd most dangerous city [or is it 3rd?] in the nation) than their endemic corruption and poor economic policies.
  19. Dee Oh Ay. But I'll put money the sponsoring creature came out of Memphis.
  20. Yes, Todd. Come back to the Dark Side. All is forgiven..... Why a wheel gun beats a semi: -Rounder curves -Built for speed vs built for comfort -Change back straps and it feels like someone totally different in your hand -The phrase "forcing cone" just sounds dirtier than "feed ramp" -Long and slow trigger that gets harder at the end -Action job vs throat job -You can boast you've got a 10" tube.
  21. I heard they just bounce off the bad guys. No, I'm kidding. Nothing wrong with them. But bullet technology has come a ways since they were developed, what?, 20 years ago.

    .50 cal Glock 21

I would. But then you'd have to start driving this:

    .50 cal Glock 21

Like some fuzzy dice for the rear view mirror. And a set of rimz. I can get one, one of my distributors has had one for over a year. I thought about ordering it but ended up telling my rep that I just don't know that many pimps.

They also make a 1911. Personally the 50 Gastro-Intestinal sounds like the most useless thing since the .50AE. It isn't really a self defense round. The ballistics dont look much better than a .45acp and the ammo is considerably more. But there'll be someone out there who goes "oh, yeah. Gotta have that."
  25. Is that like being the most honest man in politics?
