  1. No, gun control has the potential to save many lives. Many people are killed by guns every year. If we eliminated even a portion of these guns, we could save some victims. No one really needs to own a gun. We have police protection and with improved communication police can arrive even while a crime is in progress.
  2. Is it a high standard or a dan wesson? I didnt think there was a joint effort anywhere. The Dans vary considerable in part because the company has had a really checkered history. Some of them are very good quality and others just suck the big one. The cylinder gap is tighter on the Dans than on the Smiths, thus affording more accuracy. In a 2" revolver accuracy is probably an afterthought more than anything else. Looking forward to pics though.
  3. Ooh. You really, really, want to reconsider that one. Heck, I've got to pay my doctor double just to check my prostate.
  4. People here look at guns pretty much the way others look at cars. Some people get passionate about their car, others see them as transportation. Each maker has a fan club. Some people enjoy dressing up their cars and consider them a personal statement. No one fantasizes about ramming his car into a school yard (OK, I'm sure someone does but it isnt common). Similarly no one is afraid he's going to be killed in a car crash, although that's a possibility we all acknowledge. But additionally there is a political aspect to guns. No politician wants to restrict car ownership. No one looks askance at you at a party because you own a car. There is no constitutional right to car ownership. So we own guns for a variety of reasons. But the one thing we all seem to agree on is that 1) we arent here to hurt anyone who isnt threatening us; 2) the further the gov't stays away from the dynamics of the gun business (including consumers) the better.
  5. hoo-boy:popcorn:
  6. This thread is useless without pictures.
  7. Cant wait to see the Bry in action. I am thinking of ordering some of their new "Tactical Drivers" series for the shop. Fit and finish are not to be believed, so I hear.
  8. I hated my P32. It was ammo sensitive, broke twice, and I couldnt hit anything more than about 8ft out. It seems people either get good ones and love them or bad ones and hate them. Personally I think an old Smith top break in .32s&w short would beat it.
  9. I carry a NAA .22 revolver in a very very concealed position. I figure just in case I'm in a public restroom and someone tries something, I'll be ready.
  10. Equipment is pretty basic: -Pistol. IDPA rules are 9mm or .38 or larger. Must fit in a box with some dimension I forget but if you're likely to carry it, even as a duty gun, its OK. No Deagles in .50AE please. Revolvers, anything up to 6 shots and 4" barrel. -Magazines. You'll need 3 clips. You can use high cap mags but only load 10 in them. For CDP (that is, 1911s in .45acp or other 45s, e.g. SIG P220) mag capacity is limited to 8. Revolvers, you'll need 2 speedloaders (or more). -Ammo. Whatever shoots. There is some power floor but you can safely ignore it for a club match. We will likely shoot 4 stages. IDPA max is 18 rounds per stage so do the math and add a little for do-overs. 2 boxes (100 rds) ought to be fine. -Holster. This has been contentious. For a club match, anything that you would normally wear. And thats general through IDPA phlosophy: if you would use it on the street in every day life, then its OK for IDPA. -Cover garment. Vest, jacket, anything that covers the gun in the holster. -Eye protection. 'Nuff said. -Ear protection. Ditto. And thats it. But as I said, this match is just to introduce people to IDPA so whatever you've got, bring it. If you're like Brycoman and all you've got is a Jennings in .380, bring it. We'll work around that.
  11. The biggest issue with Kel Tec from a business standpoint is that you can't count on supply. It happens I have a P3AT in stock but now I cant get a PF9. The P32s are usually around. This is the reason two of my distributors think Ruger will win out over Kel Tec in the .380 dept--because Ruger has tremendously more production capacity than KT.
  12. I'd recommend getting there a few minutes early for range safety meeting.
  13. I'm eyeing a vacation house.....
  14. George McGovern. Frankly, every time I see mention of him I am surprised he is still alive. He ran for President when I was 10 years old. He was the uber-liberal of the Democratic Party. It is a measure of how far the Dems have gone that McGovern today sounds like Ronald Reagan. Here he is in todays Wall St Journal.
  15. Look for: JMR Gunsmithing Brush Creek TN. Located on the lovely grounds of this historic site. Take the driveway all the way down to the range.

    New Shotty!

You think I dont know the difference? Hah! Here are clips: Here are magazines: Any questions?
  17. It's a clip. I have decided to call it that just to annoy the TC types. If you kept your rifles properly Urse you wouldn't have those issues and you would be able to enjoy the superior ergonomics and performance of a modern Western designed weapon.
  18. Make sure to bring your membership card in the Republican Party. Otherwise the cost to shoot goes to $50.
  19. Since March has 5 Sundays and Volunteer Pistol Club only shoots the 2nd and 4th I figured it might be a good time to have a TGO IDPA-style shoot. A number of people have expressed interest in trying the sport and Volunteer has some nice folks who will be happy to help. I asked the president of the club and he was supportive. So if you've never shot this sport before but want to try, come on. The only requirement is that you can operate a gun safely. If the only gun you have is a .22, bring it. Stages will be challenging but not overwhelming, the point is to have fun. 4 stages and I figured on $10 to shoot. We are gauging interest here so please respond either here or via PM if interested. Starts at 1PM in Brush Creek, which is between I40 and Alexandria, about 1hr from Nashville.
  20. But they can be converted to full auto. We need you to come with us and answer a few questions, sir.
  21. So from the time I assembled my AR I had some issues with feeding. When I inserted the loaded clip and pulled the bolt, the round often didnt go into the chamber and I had to pull back several times before it worked. Once in I didnt have too many problems. I chalked it up to the gun being new or whatever. It got annoying. I tried an old Colt clip and it was even worse. Finally I got the bright idea that it might be the clip. So while I was ordering stuff I also ordered an H&K. I figured Wolfgang knew a thing or two about metal fabrication and finishing. It is a very nice production. I took it out today and tried it. No problems of any kind. I also tried the new Magpuls and they didnt work as well. The H&Ks are about $40, which is a lot of money. But given it is the heart of a gun costing several hundreds of dollars and a pretty critical piece that didnt seem unreasonable. Moral of the story: start with the right clips, don't stint on them.

    J Frames

Come, Vince. Come on over to the dark side <evil chuckle> We have chocolate.
  23. I spent my 40th birthday taking their Intermediate Pistol. It was very good and the facilities were fine. I would highly recommend it.
  24. Do you mean a Hopkins&Allen Assasins Pistol and a Petrozzini Assault Weapon? That Petrozzini fires the same caliber as a 25-06 high-powered sniper rifle. We can't have people owning those!
