  1. Don't try so hard.
  2. Yet another winner of a post demonstrating why some very good folks have stopped posting here. Thanks, Mars.
  3. No, I am saying your right to do that does not stem from some amorphous concept of "natural rights" which are unproven but from common consent of society.
  4. I grew up in da Bronx. But that was a loong time ago.
  5. Yeah, buddy. Give me the .556 calibre any day. Tear some holes! For the little bit of rifle shooting that I do, I like to .223 or 5.56mm NATO. It is easy to control, fun to shoot, and I love the AR platform. And the 7.62x39 isn't going to be much good under 5 ft anyway.
  6. I am not sure how much more stringent gun control laws could be than DC's. They already ban outright all handguns and require all long guns to be disassembled at home. And they all have to be registered. I guess they could ban all long guns outright too. But why anyone thinks this will actually make life any better is beyond me. It is a demonstrated failure, nevermind an infringement on the US constitution.
  7. No, some members of the public do that. I have sold them occasionally by pointing out "this is what (or similar to) Metro PD carry." But a lot of people carry them because they actually like them. They have tried other guns, they have owned and carried other guns. And they like the Glock and all that goes with it. More power to 'em.
  8. Right, the Declaration of Independence.
  9. There;s not much to elaborate. People claim there is a right to all kinds of things that is inalienable. But other than quoting from the Declaration, which is not even a legal document for the purposes of American law, they cannot prove it. My view is that rights are generally determined by society. When a right is not recognized, it ceases to exist. No one has explained the difference between a right that is denied and one that doesn't exist.
  10. NP. Remind me how many years you've spent doing property management again.
  11. Good thing I'm not running for anything then. I dont think a person has a natural born right to anything. And no one has been able to prove otherwise. I think society is wise to accord a right to self defense, and legislate it into existence. And I would be balls-out opposed to any attempt to interfere by the UN in our legal rights.
  12. I also dont think there's a natural right of self-defense. But Fred isnt going to lose any votes taking on the U.N. Thats preaching to the choir. But he lost me when he went to Iowa and declared for ethanol mandates. I'll probably end up voting for him anyway though.
  13. Surprised no one mentioned CZ, which produces probably the best rifle for the money. I love the single set trigger on the 550. And it so happens I have a 550 Varmint in .308 to sell......
  14. My Masterpiece Arms Mac-11 clone in .45acp was cool. Doesnt mean I want one though.
  15. Yes, even though everybody's hand is different, somehow the Glock manages to deliver substandard ergonomics to everyone. Even the people who swear by them. Nah, no BS there...
  16. Front ejecting. Whodathunkit. That one is going to be way down on my list.
  17. I dont understand the peach colored states because to the best of my knowledge TN does not issue non-resident permits. The map looks like a blue-print for a new, improved U.S., getting rid of the liberal detritus at the edge.
  18. I just don't know what I would do without your sage advice. Thanks!
  19. I'm waiting for the day I can open-carry in Manhattan and be perfectly legal and not have anyone even care. Then I'll know RKBA truly exists.
  20. I shoot IDPA frequently and we often have moving targets. I hate them. (strangely I love steel targets) But those targets move in at least predictable ways. A person doesnt do that. We had a stage just last week with about 6 targets, one of them moving with 2 non-threats. I ended up losing count and left one target untouched, earning a high point count in the process. It is just very confusing focusing on that much at once. Add in every target moving and a lot of screaming and loud noise and it would be a tough tough situation.
  21. I know I could hit the target at that distance too, on a range or in competition or training. And if I cant then either I get points down or have to redo it. In real life it doesnt work that way. I do not know I could hit a moving target with non-threats possibly in the way and a lot distraction in under probably 1 sec. Would I try it? I dont know. I hope never to find out.
  22. And that proves what exactly? I have heard of 9mm point blank not penetrating a skull. Anything can happen.
  23. Doc, thanks. Just wait until your PA63 gets jammed again....
  24. A .32acp should certainly penetrate the skull at that range. But the head is a tough target, small and faster moving than the body. FWIW, he tells me he now carries his Kimber at work.
  25. Yesterday a new customer came in and started chatting. Turns out he works part time as a clerk at Tolivers Pawn in Madison. The store had been robbed the preceding day. As he told it, he waiting on two female customers when 3 guys came in. One of them had a gun (although it wasnt apparent at the time he was the only one armed) and held it at the boss who was down on the floor. I've been there a couple of times and I know the counter runs about 20 feet and I assume my customer was at the other end. The customer was armed with a .32 Tomcat. He considered his options and opted for not drawing the gun, ending up on the floor with a gun to his head. His boss got shot in the arm, the robbers went off and were caught within minutes, with all good recovered. I sympathize that he was in a tough tough position, outnumbered (as far as he knew), with innocent bystanders around, and his boss in a precarious position. So let's Mon AM quarterback. What would you do?
