Private Rifle Class Knoxville April 2015...AAR added
Jamie Jackson replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Training Discussions
You may also be interested in this handgun class the next day: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/85446-april-19-knoxville-suarez-training-group/ It's gonna be a great training weekend folks! -
Hi Folks. We have a private class setup in the Knoxville area and decided to open 5 slots to TGO members and associates. This is an incredible opportunity that you really don’t want to miss. Please feel free to PM me, Randy Harris aka Cruel Hand Luke, or GTG (Gotthegoods) for any additional info. Location: South Knoxville area…details on signup. The below is an edited e-mail excerpt I sent out some time ago. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RIFLE CLASS SATURDAY APRIL 18th 2015 Hi folks; TGO member GTG, the gentleman that hosted A.I.M. (Alternative Indexing Methods) Class has offered his place again for a Private session Randy Harris Rifle Class. Thank you GTG! What we are looking at is a one day, eight hour or so class, utilizing that AR 15, AK, M1A, Lever action carbine or whatever you have hanging around you plan to defend hearth and home with. :) This will be from contact or near contact distances out to about 25-30 yards. There will be transitional use of the handgun incorporated. The main focus will be, as mentioned, use in close range interpersonal conflict resolution as it relates to home and immediate property defense. Cost is $150.00 for the day. That is a true value my friends and a special discounted rate Randy is kind enough to offer to us. I know several of you guys have AR's, AK's and such that probably have the barrels growing closed as I type this...you've all heard "You don't use it, you lose it". :) Knock the dust off of 'em and get some training... I promise Training is a much better investment than gear...Invest in yourself...your skills...the "gubbermint" can't take that away from you my friends. The date is Saturday April 18th ..should be plenty of time to make plans and gather your gear. :) FYI...more ammo means more trigger time. I always bring much more than listed because I plan to shoot! Ammo: Rifle 200 rds Pistol : 50 rds Ancillary gear: belt and holster and mag pouch for pistol , sling for rifle, at least 3 rifle mags, at least 2 pistol mags, a way to carry rifle mags. This can be in your pockets, belt mounted mag pouches, a bag of some type or a chest rig. This is not a contractor class so if you show up with armor and 18 magazines you'll be a little over dressed. Armor is fine...but no whining if it gets heavy. It only works if you wear it and wearing it gets tiresome. Use common sense on holster set up. If you are rolling with a chest rig and or armor then NO AIWB (appendix IWB) unless you have a truly small chest rig and there is no conflict between the rig and the gun coming out of the holster cleanly. I want no conflict between chest rig and drawing the pistol for safety sake. IWB or OWB belt is fine...as long as it is not impeded by a monstrously big SWAT turtle rig. Drop leg is fine....but no one is REALLY gonna use that in all likelihood. Some stuff we will cover.... Don't get shot (use of cover and movement to keep from getting shot) Quickly hit what you aim at (use APPROPRIATE sight pic for the distance) whether standing, kneeling, prone or moving Clear malfunctions Keep it loaded (both emergency and proactive) Transition to pistol (reload and keep it running too) Weapon Retention and use of the rifle as an impact weapon (it's good for more than just shooting)

I've carried a Clinch Pick since '04 ...but they are a bit of a challenge to find these days: http://monderno.com/knife-reviews/shivworks-clinch-pick/ Another option, and certainly more affordable is TDI knife with an NSR sheath... This is the setup I am currently running and it serves my purpose well. http://nsrtactical.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=43&products_id=84

Greetings and Welcome aboard Mic. :hat: -
Welcome Bob. Pretty cool setup. Quite by coincidence I watched this vid earlier today. Great concept.

Claude Werner is a remarkable individual and one of the most precise and concise critical thinkers in the community currently. I haven't had the opportunity to train with him yet, several people I know and trust hold him in high regard. Members of his "tribe" include such individuals as William Aprill, Tom Givens, Craig Douglas, Paul Sharp, and John Herne. They have all earned my respect and attention long ago. Below is a link to Ballistic Radio, an actual Sunday night Radio broadcast, and podcast, and a very recent interview with said "Tactical Professor" Claude Werner. Well worth a listen imho. http://ballisticradio.com/2015/03/04/negative-outcomes-101-with-the-tactical-professor-podcast-season-2-ballistic-radio-episode-101-march-1st-2015/

Excellent choice John. And not a moment too soon. I was just about to recommend a set of Multicam Tactical Combat Suspenders! Actual link to suspenders! :stunned:

This thread is way more entertaining than the WD and gives excellent insight into the tribe's mindset here. I happen to like our tribe and that mindset. :squint:

"Everything mechanical breaks eventually"... my Glock 19 did.
Jamie Jackson replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Handguns
Thank you tnhawk. Much to my surprise when I arrived home from work a few minutes my brand new Glock 19 slide was here waiting for me. 2 days after our conversation...not bad. :pleased: Outstanding product and excellent customer service. Glock Rocks imho. -
Not trying to sound like a know it all John, but the rigidity and cut of a gun-specific belt is quite different than normal wear leather belts. It honestly can be quite remarkable when you experience the difference, I have gunbelts in reinforced nylon, leather and horsehide. Even quality everyday wear leather will have some stretch to it, and the cut is not made to accommodate the weight of a holster and mag pouches. And IWB does take an adjustment period for most folks.

You won belts that are not gunbelts? :ugh: I kid...I still have a dress belt...somewhere....

Thanks for the head's up and I wish you a timely resolution to this problem. Hopefully they'll get this straightened out fast for you. Keep us posted. -
This will help: http://www.originalsoegear.com/products/1-5-rigid-cobra-duty-belt John Willis Original SOE Belt. :pleased: A solid quality belt is the foundation of a comfortable and secure carry system...imho.

They obviously haven't sold enough G 42's just yet to warrant releasing a G 43 9mm pocket gun...maybe one day... but I'm not holding my breath waiting for it. :squint:

LOL. I think I can do it with one of my Glocks. Lord knows I'm gonna try. :squint: -

Interesting video Keyless. It looks like my particular breakage at the 21 second mark, and the vid should also encourage Glock owners to inspect, closely, the various "break points". In my case it will require a magnifying glass though for some of them. :pleased: It's also good to know the majority of the Glocks shown had remarkably high round counts...but I didn't even come close to 200,000...but I had hoped for at least 100,000 rounds out of her. -

Excellent point TNWNGR! I totally agree that these thing do have a "use life"...shoot them long enough and hard enough and they will certainly wear out. I am curious to see how many more round my particular 19 will go once I get the new slide. I have 1000 rounds setting and waiting for it to arrive "back home". :pleased: While I have a 17 and 26 similarly grip modified, I will be purchasing another Gen 3 19 as soon as I find one at a reasonable (to me) price. Hard lesson learned, especially when I know better... -
I ran thousands of rounds of fmj handloads through a G 21 I had...and not a few LRN rounds as well. Of course I blew it up with a double charged load of W 231...but that's another story... Other than the "explosive" charge load I usually ran them at 800 + fps (in 45 acp) without issues my friend.

M855/SS109 5.56 Ban!!! AKA Green Tip
Jamie Jackson replied to mcordell's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Yeah. I don't think we have in any way seen the last of this either, as well as further shenanigans from the BATFE and .gov in general. This even made Drudge headlines earlier today: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/52-senators-warn-of-sweeping-ammo-bans-say-2nd-amendment-at-risk/article/2561295 I believe this quote from the above link is attributed to the NRA; "ATF's proposed restriction of the M855 cartridge is particularly serious in light of efforts to ban other forms of ammunition. The standards in the 'Framework' would make use of ammunition containing materials other than lead more difficult. At the same time, various efforts to ban lead ammunition are proceeding apace. Second Amendment rights require not only access to firearms but to bullets. If law-abiding gun owners cannot obtain rifle ammunition, or face substantial difficulty in finding ammunition available and at reasonable prices because government entities are banning such ammunition, then the Second Amendment is at risk. An outright ban is an even more serious threat to the Second Amendment than the threat to the First Amendment's protection of free press created by a TAX imposed only on voluminous purchases of paper and ink," they said." It's the extrapolation into other ammo, ie Tula and Wolf that really concern me. -

I got off the phone with Russell at Glock and he informed me they will be replacing the slide, at no charge, and it should arrive to me within the next 2 weeks. Great customer service folks! Russell told me that they have only seen this type of failure with Glocks that have been dropped therefore bending that particular area...and that there obviously was no indication of that ever happening to my gun. I appreciate the excellent customer service from Glock. So...could I have noticed there was a problem by/when cleaning and inspecting my gun prior to this? I doubt it. But I'll be looking more carefully at all of my guns and their stress areas when doing cleaning and PM on 'em. I'll be glad to have my 19 back in my holster. :pleased: -
a bit of "Google-Fu" :pleased: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colt_Model_1910 "The Colt Model 1910 was a prototype .45 ACP caliber automatic pistol developed by John Browning as an improvement of the earlier Colt Model 1909, which was rejected by the United States Department of War due to the Cavalry's belief that the design was too complicated for use by enlisted men, and because it lacked a safety mechanism."

The history of the development of the famous Browning designed 1911 is fascinating...from the need spurred by the Moro Insurrection and trials for a new service pistol and the multiple iterations of what we now recognized as the 1911 with it's thumb safety. Here's an interesting link and it has further links to the 1910 no thumb safety model. http://www.cylinder-slide.com/1910hammerless.shtml While I personally think the grip safety on a 1911 is an abomination and shouldn't exist...there are quite a few documented instances of people not being able to engage the grip safety when injured, and therefore not having a weapon they can operate at the worst possible time, I still like the idea on a thumb safety on a 1911...because "things happen". But apparently Browning didn't initially feel the safeties were necessary at all. I carry a Glock and have for many years and feel completely comfortable with not having a manual safety...but would not carry a striker fired pistol without a properly designed holster. :2cents:

Thanks for veering back on track folks. I simply wanted to caution folks to periodically check their gear...sometimes we take things for granted. Caster... I have carried this particular handgun daily for a number of years. While it sees hard use from time to time it is well protected in an appendix IWB holster, currently the Archangel (+1 ehull). Yep...it's hit the deck in training...but to my knowledge, not muzzle first...that particular ring that broke is normally slightly recessed to flush on a Glock...but all of that was, nor isn't the point I was going after Good Sir. As I stated earlier, I think there may have been a metallurgic flaw...possibly...but even that is inconsequential. I primarily wanted to caution folks to check their self defense gear and not assume because it is brand "X" it is invincible. Murphy lives with each and everyone of us. edit for clarification...
