  1. Never heard of spring squirrel season before! I'll have to check it out. Is that something new this year? My grandmother used to cook them in a black iron skillet, on the top of the stove, just like southern fried chicken... very good on a cold winter day. She also made dumplings with them in it, just like chicken and dumplings... also good.
  2. Thanks for the info. Mine is a 16" H Bar Bushy I bought a couple of boxes of the Wal-Mart Winchester White Box "Varmint" loads in the 45 grain JHP. It says they're high velocity at 3600 FPS. Has anyone shot a coyote with this load, and if so, how did it do? Thanks again.
  3. Not to hijack the thread... but, I wouldn't have any document like this printed on a public copying machine! They have hard drives, and store everything you copy... everything! Then the old copiers get sold to countries over seas, with all that data still on the hard drive! I wouldn't copy "anything" personal on a public copier!
  4. All you Sheridan Blue Streak guys, here's some more information on my "Blue Streak". On the left side of the pump tube, under the receiver area is written; "BLUE STREAK" 5mm CAL. Just above this on the actual receiver area is the numbers 4691, which I assume to be the S/N. On the right side of the pump tube , under the receiver area is written; SHERIDAN PRODUCTS INC. RACINE WIS. - Made in U.S.A. Can anyone steer me to a S/N listing that will give the year of manufacture, and which repair kit I need? I bought it new in around 1968. Thanks. Also, I'd like to find detailed instructions for disassemble and reassembly, with diagrams, pictures, or parts listing if possible. Thanks again.
  5. Thanks Pie, have you installed one of these kits? If so, was it a Blue Streak from the 60s era? I plan to order a repair kit, after I figure out which one I need. If you've replaced these I may call on you for guidance as I install my new kit. Please let me know if there are any "NO-NOs that will cause me to ruin the installation kit parts. Thanks a bunch.
  6. It would be nice if most of the rest of the states would do the same thing. Maybe this would send the message to Washington that we Americans want our borders closed, protected, and the illegals out of our country. " To anger a Conservative, lie to him. To anger a Liberal, tell him the truth". Theodore Roosevelt
  7. I appreciate the offer 101, but that sounds like a pretty pricey scope. My budget is pretty tight right now, so I'll just have to see what the one I have will do. That sounds like a real nice scope you have there. Did you zero at 100, 150, or 200 yards? I'm thinking for Middle Tennessee, that most of my shots are going to be inside 150 yards... maybe less.
  8. Final chapter, I hope! As many of you know I've tried lots of things: beveling the ejector, polishing the bolt head, polishing the chamber, and even replacing the ejector, none of which helped any. Swapped the bolt out yesterday with a friend's bolt. Fired 5 rounds through it, and it shot just fine. Have contacted Bushmaster, as the gun is in warranty. They have agreed to swap out the defective bolt with me at no charge. Kudos to "Bushmaster" for doing the right thing. It's only after the sale, that you find out what kind of dealers that you are dealing with. Some flash the "politician" toothy smile, and say the nice words to make the sale. But, it's how they treat you when a problem comes up, that separates the good ones from the bad ones. I'm not calling any names here... but, my recommendation is to check the dealer out "before" you lay down your hard earned big bucks. "Buyer beware"!!!
  9. Sorry, my bad. I thought I read somewhere on here that someone was congratulating you on getting a yote, and on your Bushy drawing first blood. maybe they thought you had a Bushmaster. Anyway, I wanted a 20" H BAR, but got a 16" H BAR in a trade. I remember the round you're using blowing a pretty good hole in that bobcat, but don't remember it doing so much damage to the yote. I've been jerking around with sights, flattop risers, and optics on mine so much that I haven't been able to get settled down on a good 100 yard zero in. Maybe next time I go to the Viola shooting range.
  10. You know, I think oiling (too much) may have been what led to this problem... that, or it may have been dry fired! I believe I recall (senior moment you know) it not pumping up all the way. then some oil remedy or something, and now it won't even pump up any! I should have let well enough alone! Again, there's that hindsight thing. Anyone know anything about repairing the internal valve?
  11. I found some 5MM at a little mom and pop gun shop somewhere up in the northeast, a few years back. I wish I had bought all they had on hand! I only bought a couple of boxes. There's that hindsight thing.
  12. Any Sheridan Blue Streak pellet gun experts on the forum? I have one I bought new back in the 60s. It sat in the closet, untouched, for many years. Can't remember the details about trying to revive it last time, but do remember it wouldn't pump up. Just wondering if anyone on here has experience with disassembling and repairing one of these? I know I could send it in for repairs, but that gets pretty pricey. I'm trying to figure out what might be bad (seals..O-rings..gaskets.. flapper valves), where and if I can buy them, and if they're easily repaired. I've never had mine apart. Before, about 5 pumps would bury a pellet in a new 2x4! It shot true and very hard. I'm just interested in getting it going to dispatch some pesky birds and critters. Thanks in advance for your help.
  13. It sounds like the extractor is doing it's job, if it is holding on and pulling the spent shell out of the chamber. The small semi round shaped ejector is located opposite the extractor, and is what kicks the shell out as the bolt is pulled back. The spring under it may also be weak. Remove the bolt from the gun. Then take a fired (empty) shell casing and hook it under the extractor claw. Then rock it down on the ejector to see if there is spring tension. It should have enough spring to it to kick the shell out after firing. A new ejector, or ejector and spring should not cost too much, and with your shooting friend's help can probably be easily replaced. Good luck.
  14. Folks, I appreciate the offer of help, but don't think I want to modify my gun... especially if I'm going to have to drop some serious cash. If there's a "design deficiency" in the weapon, maybe I should send it back to Bushmaster for corrective action. This is not a cobbled together parts gun... this is a factory assembled Bushmaster. Yes, I did say "assembled" not manufactured, as I realize manufacturers build parts for a number of the name brand factories. Right now, I think I'll try polishing the head of the ejector lightly, and if that doesn't fix it, I'll probably try changing the ejector with a new one. Thanks to everyone.
  15. Thanks for your reply. Some others have mentioned this as well. But, the mark is not a dent type as though being hit too hard. It's more like a little divot (Rectangular in shape) has been scrapped or gouged out of the casing face of the head stamp. I was suspecting it was happening as the bolt twisted to unlock, just after firing... if the ejector had a sharp rim on it, and dug in during the twist... especially if the chamber was holding the shell casing from twisting. It's perplexing, to say the least.
  16. Thanks Rightwinger, there is a lot of uniformity in the marks. Every one of them are about the same shape and dimension, which causes me to think it's the ejector jerking a chink of metal out of it each time. This is not just a surface mark, you can feel it with your finger nail, and the slivers are left on the bolt face. Thanks for your input.
  17. The divot is out on the face of the shell casing head, so I believe it's the ejector. I've only had the gun a couple of weeks, and only on two shootings. I don't believe I even looked at an unfired shell... that's an idea that I'll check out. As best I can remember, if I ejected any live rounds, it must have kicked them out pretty good... otherwise, I would have noticed. Thanks for your reply.
  18. What length barrel do you have on your Bushy, Hunting 101? I bought some 55gr. at the gun show in soft points. I'm going by the Reloader's Bench tomorrow, and may pick up some heavier... like 62gr or 68gr. Anyone shot any of them at yotes? I haven't tried them yet, but I bought a box of the Winchester "Varmint" loads in the white box at Wally World. I believe they're 45gr, and was wondering if they might be a little light for coyotes? Thanks for the feed back. Thanks.
  19. Thanks again, this is a 16" heavy barrel. Any links of references to this weight system? Is it something that is attached to the bolt carrier group? Have you ever had to use one? Some say keep shooting it, that it'll work it's way through it. Sure hope so. I think the brass is still usable, but it does take a little chink out of every round on the shell casing head. I bought a new ejector at the gun show, and was thinking about changing it out. Your thoughts on doing that?
  20. Thanks for that information, FroggyOne2. I did buy this Bushmaster as a "almost" new gun, with an advertised 40 rounds down the barrel. So, supposedly, it's all factory Bushmaster, as I have not changed anything... but did buy it used. How is the amount of gas getting to the bolt regulated... or is it? Thanks again.
  21. I'll try again... I got bumped off before I could reply!!! What's with the hair trigger on getting bumped and having to sign in again!! Thanks for your reply. Question one.. The barrel is marked 8 MP 5.56 NATO 1/9 H BAR, so it's 5.56. Question two..I'm shooting .223 ammo in a 5.56 chamber. Question three.. Factory Federal 223 REM. 100 round value pack from WM. Question four... The brass is ejecting out and forward at about the 2 O'clock position, and at about 3 - 5 feet out. Maybe a smith can jump in here and tell me what's the problem. The ejector does look flat with little or no bevel around the edge. Thanks again, maybe someone else had this problem and can chime in and tell me what theu did to fix it?
  22. This is weird, if I'm the only person that has ever had this problem!
  23. "Then after you've gotten a little experience and know that it is something you enjoy doing, you can move up to one of the progressive presses, become a benefactor, and offer your old single stage in the trading post here and help another poor helpless soul entering into the world of reloading." copied from kb4ns's post. Yeah!! I'm looking for one of those single stage RCBS Rock Chucker single stage presses right now, used at a reasonable price. Got one for sale? Give me a PM. Thanks.
  24. Just bought some reloading supplies at the gun show this weekend, and want to get into reloading. Naturally, I'll be loading a lot of rounds to punch paper with, as the AR seems to have a healthy appetite for brass, lead, and gun powder! But, I wanted to know what you coyote hunters that were using the ARs preferred as the premier "yote" round for Tennessee. I know that the pelts aren't usually worth keeping, but I'd like to use a round that would kill DRT and still preserve the hide. Opinions are always great, but if you've got some actual experience with a certain round, that would be great too. Thanks for your opinions and help. "To anger a Conservative, lie to him. To anger a Liberal, tell him the truth." Theodore Roosevelt
  25. What kind of gun in the .243? I have a Savage 10 in .243 that we just sighted in Friday. I was using the Wally World Winchester 100 gr. Hollow Points. Sorry about the yote... he'll be DRT next time.
