  1. Be careful, the Wal Mart parking lot at the Old Fort Parkway location in Murfreesboro has female panhandlers, with crocodile tears and the whole nine yards. She has a big dude hanging just out in the fringe area that slowly circles you while she is giving her pitch. Not exactly sure what he has in mind, but she refers to him as her husband in the pitch, even though he looks more like he daddy. She says they're just up here from Orlando, and have been sleeping in the woods. She says he (the big dude) frightens people, so that's the reason he stays at a distance. There's some bad carma in the air there! Just be warned, and be careful!
  2. If one of them just happens to be a Savage 12FV in .223 caliber, shoot me a PM...cause I'm in the market for one.
  3. Sure hope it doesn't turn you sour toward letting someone else hunt on your property. They should have asked you if it was ok to do that. I was just wondering if they were using them for bait for other coyotes? Like another poster said, I doubt they lasted long, if you have a lot of coyotes on your land. At any rate, a considerate hunter should have kept you informed on what they were doing anyway. Sorry you had the bad experience.
  4. Are you referring to the Lazermax breaking and disabling the Glock? I don't think so. Like someone on here already stated, if the lazer doesn't work or is not turned on, you just use the regular sights. It still works as the guide rod. the lazer has nothing to do with the proper functioning of the Glock, that I'm aware of. Anybody got one they want to sell?
  5. Like my granny used to say, "It just wasn't his time to go"! I don't think I'd push my luck though, if I were him.
  6. Good for you! With the both of you into guns, it'll be twice the fun! she's got to be our kind of lady. Pass her plenty of ammo!
  7. Just a shout out from the Goat Locker, from one retired Navy Chief (AMSC) to another retired Navy Chief (GMC). Glad to see there's another one in the area.
  8. Congratulations on a successful quail hunt. That's a good looking mess of birds.Curious as to how you prepared them for eating? My granny used to fry them in a black skillet, on top of the stove, in the same fashion she did Southern fried chicken. Some fine eating there for sure. Thanks for sharing the pics with us. Now, we're all jealous that we don't have a quail hunting story to share!
  9. Did they skin them out and just leave the carcasses lying around, or did they just shoot them and left them where they fell?
  10. I guess it's that "I want another toy" thing. I actually have two .243 bolts, and probably will replace one of them with the .223. I'd like to do some of that "cheap" plinking with the .223 that you mentioned. I'd like to find a .223 mate for my Savage .243. I bought a FoxPro call, so I'm all set there. Just need a place to hunt in the Murfreesboro area. I've never been coyote hunting before, so it'll be a learning experience for me. I'm looking forward to it. thanks for your input...good advice.
  11. I bought a FoxPro "Spitfire", just before Christmas, at Dick's in Murfreesboro for $199 +tax. It has a remote and 28 different calls on it. There's five volume levels. I haven't been able to try it out in a stand yet. I did fire it up in an area where I've seen coyotes before, using the "coyote locator" call. Either I stirred them up, or someone else had a call with the same sounds on the other side of the woods. As soon as I can find some place to hunt them, and that Savage .223 I'm looking for, I'll put it to the test, and give you a report. The Spitfire is the bottom of the line for FoxPro. But the sound quality is good, it's built sturdy, and I think the volume is more than adequate. Coyotes have good hearing...they can hear mice, rabbits, and squirrels from some pretty good distances. It has a removable Micro SD card that you can use your computer to add or delete sounds from. You can buy more of these cards at walley World, for more or different sounds.
  12. Thanks for the advice. Now, if I can just find that .223! I have a .243, but think I'd rather hunt coyotes with a .223...ammo's cheaper.
  13. I haven't been there lately, but of all the times I went, it was good. there was a little wait, but plenty of food, and it was prepared well. It's different though... and that's what you said you wanted...right?
  14. What did you take him with... bow or gun, and some ammo details please? Thanks
  15. I have a Romanian "Romy G" AK-47 ready to have the receiver to forward trunnion riveted together. I'm looking for someone that has done this, that is capable of instructing me how to do it in a professional way, in the Middle Tennessee area. I'm fully capable of just going out and smashing the rivets, but want it to look like a factory job. If someone has the proper tools, and is willing to help me drive these rivets in a proper manner, I'd be willing to pay a reasonable fee for your services. Thanks.
  16. I have an SKS, which I've fired and like a lot. I have a Romanian "Romy G" AK ready to have the riveting done for final assembly. Anyone in the Middle Tennessee area that has done that, with the proper riveting tools? I could just go smash the rivets, but want it look like a professional job. Anyone willing to help me finish this project in the area? I'd be willing to pay a reasonable fee for your services. Thanks.
  17. My bad, I see what you mean by putting it into the cart.
  18. Looks like it's $325 per case right now.
  19. With all of the confusion, it looks like it would be advisable to carry a "current" copy of these rules on one's person, anytime they're hunting, on WMAs and private land!
  20. Congratulations to your son, on some good wing shooting of quail. Looks like you're starting him out right in life. he's a lucky young man.
  21. Grimel, I agree totally! We need clear, simple , and concise written rules that can be understood without having to run it by a Philadelphia lawyer. Some of the rules seem to be written more for garnering more money, than they are for "wildlife management". The centerfire...rimfire... rules needs to be simply laid out so everyone can understand them, and then left alone... not changed from year to year. Just my two cents worth. Merry Christmas....cause I'm not politically correct!
  22. I know what you're saying Batman, and don't blame you. I don't personally have any "private land" to hunt deer on, and I'm afraid of getting shot on the WMAs around the Nashville area! So, I guess I'll just forfeit another deer season for safety peace of mind. Don't really have any place to hunt yotes on either...even though I've been offered a couple of places. I'll just have to scout them out, to see if there are any coyotes there to be hunted. Good luck on the deer and duck hunting. I guess I'll just have to settle for my memories of years long gone by! At this time in my life, I'll forgo pleasure for safety any day of the week!
  23. Thanks for the kind words rentalguy1. I can honestly say an encounter like that will definitely change a person. The gravity of how close you came to actually killing a man weighs heavily on you. At least it is on me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not about to turn in my carry permit and gun. I guess the encounter solidifies the reality that you just may have to take deadly force to save your own life! It's very sobering to realize I was only seconds from having to do just that! I'm not sure if the big (in build) man was drinking, on drugs, or just a hothead. Thank God, it was resolved before that was necessary. It's unfortunate that we have to live in that kind of world today... but we do. Your support is greatly appreciated. Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. Fred Thompson
  24. Congratulations on a very nice buck! Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. Fred Thompson
  25. jackdm3, sorry if I posted in the wrong area. I was trying to keep in line with the OP about being mentally prepared, or having doubts thereof. I'm not sure I know to repost. Do I just cut and paste, or delete it here and try to reconstruct it there. Sorry again! I guess I didn't notice the "N" on USN seemed to be falling. It's not a statement about the Navy. I'm very proud to have served my country with the United States Navy. I was on one of the seven aircraft carriers that participated in that event. We did what we could, and what we knew to do at the time, and what we were told to do by President John Kennedy. I also served off of an aircraft carrier in the Viet Nam "conflict" as well. Looks like we did as told by Washington again. Sorry for your father-in-law's negative feelings about the Cuban Missile Crisis.
