  1. I did look at the Mini 14 OS. But, all of my research indicated the ARs were so much more accurate, at much longer ranges, that I thought maybe I'd just bite the bullet ( no pun intended) price wise and go with the AR. I do know I want to stay with the .223 and possibly the .223/5.56 caliber. There seems to be plenty to choose from on GOC and other gun sale sites. Thanks for the input.
  2. Actually, I busted my butt trying to find a Savage in .223 with accutrigger, in a reasonable price range. I'd buy one tomorrow, if I found the right rifle at the right price. Being that it doesn't look like that is going to happen, and a quick follow up shot on a spinning coyote would be nice, and the accuracy boasted of the ARs, I figure it's my second choice. I may have to bump on up closer to 1K to get a good matched up "used" AR-15. Naturally, I figure I'll have to punch some paper to be effective on the yote. Thanks for your info.
  3. For months now I've been trying to buy a Savage bolt in .223 to coyote hunt with. None have surfaced, so now I'm considering an AR-15 for the same purpose. My trouble is that I know zilch about the various attributes to be considered in buying one. I've tried to research them, based on what I've seen on various gun sale sites. The volume of information is mind boggling! I see prices from as low as $500 - $600 to a high of roughly $2,500. I'm not going to pay $2,500 for any gun to hunt coyotes with! I'm thinking my self imposed budget is going to be between $600 - $800, for the best deal I can get. I'm thinking there are probably "basics" I should know about: manufacturers, barrels, receivers, stocks, bolt carriers and actions, and fixed or removable carrying handle. Any help with these "basics" would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  4. Have any of you seen this video? A friend sent it to me in an email, and it is awesome. This bobcat comes up on this rattlesnake, and kills the snake! The rattlesnake never touched the bobcat! This is some fight! I don't know how to post a video on here, but if someone else does, I'd be glad to email it to you. "To anger a Conservative, lie to him. To anger a Liberal, tell him the truth." 5. Hey Bearman, I've got a Savage Model 10 in .243 ( and a Howa 1500 in .243) and am looking for the ideal coyote load, off the shelf right now, as I don't reload yet. If there's anyone else that shoots a Savage .243 ( or Howa .243) at yotes, I'd love to hear about the "store-bought" round you're using. I think the barrel twist is around 1:9, or maybe 1:9 1/2. I'd like to save the hide if I could, but I want a round that'll put him down. The more I hear from... the better. Thanks.
  6. Thanks for the post Whiskey. I've tried to do some internet research, and get about 50/50 on the pros and cons. Apparently the barrel is mounted differently than the regular Savages. That's one of the features I like about the regular Savage barrel set up... easy change out. I would like to see one, and shoot one. But, I think I'll hold off on the "economy" model until the price is in the "economy" column. "To anger a Conservative, lie to him. To anger a Liberal, tell him the truth." Theodore Roosevelt
  7. If anyone is taking a Savage in .223, with accutrigger over there, let me know. I'm looking for one. Thanks. "To anger a Conservative, lie to him. To anger a Liberal, tell him the truth." Theodore Roosevelt
  8. Does anyone have one of these? If so, could you educate the rest of us on this gun? Just read snippets on another forum that said it was about $350 cheaper than the other line of Savage varmint rifles! They talked about some pretty good ballistic stats. Just wondering if anyone has one, and has hands on experience with it? The picture shows it as quite a bit smaller than say a 12VSS. Thanks. I'm interested in one of these in .223, if they're that good.
  9. Hey Hunting 101, I picked up one of those MOJO Critters at Dick's, here in Murfreesboro last night. Haven't had a chance to "field test" it yet, but hope to soon. I put the 4 AA batteries in in and "home tested" it. It looks good! I like the starting and stopping it does... makes it look realistic. You asked about the "remote" possibilities. They have a remote conversion on their web site now. Go to MOJO Outdoorsâ„¢ | MOJO Properties | MOJO Outdoors TV | MOJO Replacement Parts for the latest and greatest.
  10. Maybe the "Yankee" guy that posted on the hunting forum a while back will be able to se that, " yes... the coyotes are a nuisance". So glad you were home to save your dog! There's no telling how many other dogs they have killed in the past. Glad you eliminated five of them. Hope your dog checks out OK. Oops! My bad, he was talking about Bobcats.
  11. Sir, with all due respect... you've been drinking the cool-aid too long! There are lots of complex issues alright. Let's cover a few of them. 1. These people "DO NOT" want to become Americans! Did you not see the marches in the streets, and our AMERICAN flag hung upsidedown below the Mexican flag? 2. I believe ENGLISH is our language. How many of them do you see even attempting to ASSIMILATE, and accepting even our language? 3. The argument that WE NEED them is bunk! If that were so, why would we hear all the news about jobs and unemployment? They are part (a big part) of the problem, not the solution. 4. They are bankrupting our hospitals, our welfare systems, our schools, our prison systems and our food stamp programs. 5. It's been estimated that for every one allowed in LEGALLY, they will bring their family, adding at least 5 more! 6. Other countries, that have a lot less wealth and defense power than us, control their border! Controlling that border is not because of a fence on the US/Mexican border... it's because of a brick wall in Washington DC. Corrupt politicians, to be exact. Some want the votes, others want the cheap labor...and the AMERICAN TAXPAYER gets screwed! NO TO AMNESTY NOW OR EVER!!!
  12. Nancy Pelosi says this is "just the beginning"!!! She said ,"once we kick the doors in, we're just getting started"!!!! 1. Emboldened by this bill passing... I think "AMNESTY" for the 30 million illegals in our country is next! 2. Once they have amnesty done... they'll go after our guns with a vengeance!!! 3. Chuckie Schumer and company will make Bill Clinton's gun grab look like child's play.
  13. "The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to an electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president." -- Author Unknown
  14. The Democrats have done it! Now, I believe the following will happen. 1. Emboldened by the passage of Obamacare they will go for amnesty for the 30 million illegals. That's what this was all about in the first place IMHO. 2. As soon as they get amnesty for illegals, they're going to come after out guns in a way that will make the Clinton Firearms grab look like child's play! And, whose going to stop them... the same people that stopped them from passing socialized medicine? yea right.
  15. Look "very carefully" inside the open breech at the locking lug for a letter inside an oval. It may be stamped on the barrel, near the locking lug. Sometimes they were struck lightly. It may take some magnification to determine the single letter inside the oval. This letter has to be compared to a date chart. I have the chart somewhere on this or one of my other computers. Just let me know what the letter is. "To anger a Conservative, lie to him. To anger a Liberal, (Progressive these days) tell him the truth." Theodore Roosevelt
  16. You're a good man, WD-40. Your friends are lucky to have a friend like you. Just callin' like I see um.
  17. Actually, I was hoping to find a slightly used one... kind of like a slightly used car, to get some relief on the price. I figure if the brand new ones sell for $350 - $400 in the big sporting goods stores, or at Wal-Mart, a used one should be less. As a last resort, I could go to Wal-Mart or Dick's and order one. I hope you guys will help me find a good one... hint... hint!
  18. I want a .223 because the ammo is readily available locally, and considerably cheaper... especially in the lighter "varmint" grain weights. I will probably be shooting factory ammo most of the time. I already have two .243s, and just want a .223 in the make and model I specified. In fact, I might be interested in trading my Howa 1500 .243, with a Bell and Carlson stock and sling, and a hinged floor-plate, mounts and rings for one.
  19. I'd be interested in one of these, if they're made in .223. But, no one here mentions seeing one in .223. I have a .243 (model 10) in basically this same rifle and love it. I've been trying to find one in .223 for some time now. I don't want to be switching barrels back and forth... I want both calibers, .223 for coyotes and just fun shooting, and the .243 for deer hunting. " To anger a Conservative, lie to him. To anger a Liberal, tell him the truth". Theodore Roosevelt
  20. Nice shot 10MM... 200+ yards and on the run! You have done the dairy farmer a good deed. This has got to be a "win - win" situation, for both you and the dairy farmer. "To anger a Conservative, lie to him. To anger a Liberal, tell him the truth." Theodore Roosevelt
  21. Congratulations 101... good job. You know, this makes it look like it may be a good idea to have a smaller caliber gun in the stand with you also. Looking forward to seeing the mount. Thanks for posting the pics. "To anger a Conservative, lie to him. To anger a Liberal, tell him the truth." Theodore Roosevelt
  22. 1953 Plymouth (Pastel Green) 4 door 6 cyl. Cambridge, with 3 on the tree, and slightly used by a lady I knew that had it serviced every two weeks. Saved my money all summer to buy the car. Wrote my first check, ever in my life, to pay cash for the car. The check bounced, and I was one scared 16 year old! Lived in a small town where almost no one used full, formal, names... not even at the bank. A guy that lived in another small country town nearby, and banked at the same bank, used the same name as me. The bank told him he had money (my money!), and he spent it! I had all the receipts to prove my check was good, and all turned out well. To this day, my friends can attest to the fact, that I save every receipt I get! "To anger a Conservative, lie to him. To anger a Liberal, tell him the truth." Theodore Roosevelt
  23. Congratulations 101. That's a good looking coyote. Looks like he had a good coat of fur, like WD-40s. Did you order your Mo Jo Critter, or buy it locally at some place like Dick's or Bass Pro? Did you anchor your call some way, so he couldn't grab it up and run off with it? I've heard of that happening! "To anger a Conservative, lie to him. To anger a Liberal, tell him the truth." Theodore Roosevelt
  24. Many attest to the accuracy of the Savage, right out of the box. I have a Savage model 10, chambered in .243, which is more like a youth model in length and weight. I like it so much that I'm looking for another just like it in .223... just cause I want one!
  25. Thanks to all who have offered advice. Sometimes it's hard to convey what you're actually trying to accomplish in a short thread. I guess a barrel and bolt head change would be in order if I had a "shot out" barrel, but I don't. I want a .223 in the Savage bolt for the same reason many of you have multiple calibers in the same make, or different makes of the same caliber... in short, just cause we want them! I can order some coyote loads for my .243s, and I'm sure they'll do just fine. In the meantime, I'll keep looking for that Savage chambered in .223, with accutrigger and synthetic stock, at a price that fits my budget. Dick's is running some Savage 11/111s right now for $399. But there's no .223s and they're not accutrigger models. So, thanks to everyone for your input. I'm going to leave my sweet little .243s unmolested, and look for a .223.
