  1. Told you it was confusing 101. As I read the law, I thought it said that the "coyote season" was open year round, with no limits. Further, I thought it basically said we had to hunt them with the hunting guns that were specified for whatever game season was open. That being said, can a hunter not harvest a turkey with a centerfire rifle, and if so, why wouldn't it be legal to harvest a coyote with that same rifle? Confusing...confusing...confusing, and it doesn't have to be. Other states have much simpler hunting laws. I stand corrected. I went back and read the laws under spring turkey hunting, and it says rifles and handguns are prohibited. Not sure I understand why they are prohibited, but they are. Like I've said before, Tennessee has some of the most confusing and convoluted hunting regs and laws of any of the other states.
  2. TLRMADE, glad you got him before he got your dogs. I believe the supply of pets outdoors is the reason we see a lot of them in residential areas.
  3. Anyone been shooting any yotes lately? What's your technique for calling them this time of the year? How about the gun of choice for this time of the year also? Let's hear your yote hunting stories... we're having burnt gunpowder withdrawals!
  4. A friend of mine had three yotes taken off of his farm recently. He called the guy that took them a "professional' coyote hunter. He sent me pics and these coyotes were big, fat, and had nice fur. Maybe that nice fur came from the pretty cold winter. These yotes were taken right here in the Murfreesboro area. The hunting rules are pretty confusing, but it appears we can shoot them with "center fire" cartridges this time of the year, right?
  5. I agree, that would make an awesome deer gun. I have a .30-30/20 gauge, but would go for the 308 anytime.
  6. Thanks for the reply Whiskey. I have some 12 gauge (even magnum) shotguns, but just like the 20 gauge. I have a special turkey choke for the 20 gauge, but other than a full choke, I don't have a turkey choke for my 12 gauge magnum. I've never shot any of the "Hevi Shot". Maybe it's time I check them out. If your daughter is as handy with the shotgun as she is with the fishing pole... those gobblers had better stay on the roost!
  7. Thanks for the reply. This individual "is not" in Tennessee. He says he's in one of the western states. I really haven't figured out if he is legit, or is trying to pull a scam on me, yet! I think the only way I'd go along with this is for him to ship his gun to a local FFL, so they could act as an escrow. I would need to inspect the gun there. Before they would give me his gun, I'd have to give them my gun. He has said he will pay all shipping and FFL fees. They could then ship my gun to his FFL. I "do not" want to break any laws, nor do I want to loose a gun in a scam either!
  8. Anybody planning on turkey hunting with a 20 gauge? If so, what choke and what shell/shot? I think I have some of the Remington "Nitro-Turkey" loads in #4 shot. Anyone used these in 20 gauge, and did they get the job done?
  9. Looks like she took care of the fish for the evening meal! She might just turn into one of those pro fishermen/fisherladies we see on the Outdoor Channel! Congrats!
  10. Anyone ever do a long range gun trade through shipping? I've got someone that wants to trade me his Savage Model 24 (different rifle caliber than mine) for my Savage Model 24S-B. I hope he is legit, as I'm interested in doing the trade, but we can't be too careful these days! To remove the risk factor, I believe we would have to use a reputable, local, FFL... someone like Outpost Armory, to act as an escrow agent. I'm thinking he would have to ship his gun into them, they would hold it and call me to take my gun to them. Once they have confirmed everything is legal and legit, they would ship my gun to him and give me his gun... for the appropriate fees of course. How does this sound to you guys? Has anyone ever done this before? I'm trying to insure I don't loose my gun, and have nothing to show for it. Your input is appreciated. PM me if you'd rather not do an open post. Thanks in advance.
  11. enfield, you wouldn't be interested in trading that 24V on another gun, would you? If so, PM me, and we'll see what we can work out. Thanks.
  12. This is not a Weasel Ball, but comes from the same place... Cracker Barrel. Has anyone tried the "Flying Pig" that hangs from mono-filament line? Sorry, I don't have a picture, as i didn't buy one. I did check the price, and they're about ten bucks apiece. If someone has used this "Flying Pig" as a coyote decoy, please give us an update.
  13. dlm, I can't speak for everyone else, but I'd be interested in hearing about this method.
  14. Godspeed, and do be careful over there in the Middle East Adam. We'll be wishing you a safe return back to Tennessee... then, we can get them yotes.
  15. The mange, and the possibility of rabies!
  16. Thanks to everyone that offered their knowledge about this problem. I bought a set of offset scope rings at the gun show, and now my scope is installed and bore sighted... thanks to Westwind Mike. Now, all I have to do is zero it in at the range, and I'll be ready for some varmint action next season.
  17. Thanks to everyone that replied. I ordered a kit and the tools, and repaired mine myself. Like some of you said it isn't hard to do. Now, mine shoots just fine. Thanks again guys.
  18. Has anyone changed the regular trigger out and installed an Accu-Trigger on an older (flat back receiver-long action) Savage Model 110? Is it possible, and cost wise feasible? I know the late model 110s have the Accu-Trigger, and that they have the round back receivers, but don't know if the inside of the receiver/trigger interface was changed. If this would work, what can an Accu-Trigger assembly be bought for? It may not be financially feasible. I'm just asking you guys for your opinions. What do you think? Is it worth it... or should I just leave it alone? Thanks guys.
  19. That little Savage model 24 in .22LR/410 will only increase in value, not to mention the utility benefits of it. Why not consider one of these in larger calibers and gauges, say like a .222/20 gauge, or even a .223/12 gauge?
  20. It would appear this would depend on whether you're talking about firing a gun on "public" land, or "private" land. On "private" land, It's my understanding you can sit on your back porch and shoot all you want. But, that 100 yard distance law applies to "public" (gobment) land. Some legal eagles might interpret the law differently, but I think you "still" have control over your own land, within reason!
  21. Went to the show today, and enjoyed it very much. When I got there, the first primary parking lot was full, ditto for the overflow parking lot... and a second overflow parking lot in front of the old Paramount Packaging plant was starting to fill in! It was very crowded with people inside as well. I was able to find most everything I went there to buy, and bought it. I didn't see a lot of money changing hands on the big ticket (guns) items. I wish I had time to check out all of the "individual" guns that were available, and there were quite a few! Maybe some good deals there to be had, but I had to concentrate on the other items I went there for. I got the idea there just wasn't a lot of money in people's pockets today. There wasn't a lot of shotguns there, and I've been keeping an eye out for a couple of specific ones... but narry a one of them there. Also, looking for a specific bolt action rifle in .223, but didn't see one as I was busy with the other stuff. There were a lot of ARs and tacticool stuff there. Overall, I think it was a pretty good show. Glad we got it in the B'oro. In my opinion... it was better than the Nashville Fairgrounds show last weekend.
  22. Very nice! I'd say it ought to give a coyote a dirt nap for you! We want to see pics of the first blood it draws!
  23. "I’ve never seen a “fake walk around guy†that I know of." Guess I've just been at the right place at the right time. I've seen them switch out one gun at a table, and then walk around with another. If a dealer has paid for a table at a gunshow, why would he want to send someone out amongst the crowd trying to sell a gun, as though the guy with the gun was an individual seller? They have even approached me, inquiring about the price I was asking for a gun I had for sale. "Why would it matter to you if the guy is a dealer or not?" I don't know... it just seems a little deceptive to me. One of the main reasons I go to gun shows is look for a particular gun that an individual may have for sale at a great price. "As I understand it a dealer could sell his private guns as a private party; but I would think he would have to be one dumb SOB to do that at a gun show." I'm not a dealer, so I wouldn't know anything about that. From the tone of your post, you must be, as I seemed to have touched a nerve. "There are too many people with agendas at gun shows and doing forum sales not to make sure you are involved in a legal sale." Again, I'm not a dealer, so I don't know what this means. No offense intended to dealers as a whole, as I realize without you, there would be no gun show. I've done gun deals, and other deals with dealers, and appreciate them for making the gun shows as interesting as they are.

In case you don't like it for some reason... I'd be interested in taking it off of your hands! Cash or trade!
  25. I hope to get to go to the Murfreesboro Gun Show this weekend. Be aware... that there are dealers that send their guns out on the floor, as "walk around" gun guys! So, not all of the guns you see being carried around by "supposedly individuals" are being sold by people like you and I... they're dealer guns! I'll re-ask the question again. If, someone buys a gun from one of these "fake" walk around guys, are they then asked to do a background check, and add tax and TICKs? Inquiring minds want to know. Hopefully, there'll be a good turn out of "legitimate" walk around guns being sold by private individuals, as I'm looking for a couple myself. I'll be looking for a Savage model 10 in .223 or possibly a .308, and a 20 gauge over under with screw in chokes in a Stoeger. I may even carry a "legitimate" walk around gun for sale by a private individual (that would be me) myself.
