  1. Haslam ran a bill today, doubles the time for re-upping the Permit, cuts original cost by $15.00, (SB2566).  Even the two Democrats voted for it. The House already has it in finance it on the way to Finance, Ways and Means, now likewise in the Senate. Constitutional Carry is dead.  Of course it was from the word go.
  2. HB 1748/SB 1483 Fiscal Note, Grond moves forward... http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/109/Fiscal/SB1483.pdf
  3. Civil Justice Sub-Committee: Jim Coley (R) (615) 741-8201 rep.jim.coley@capitol.tn.gov Bill Beck (D) (615) 741-3229 rep.bill.beck@capitol.tn.gov Mike Carter (R) (615) 741-3025 rep.mike.carter@capitol.tn.gov Sherry Jones (D) (615) 741-2035 rep.sherry.jones@capitol.tn.gov Jon Lundberg (R) (615) 741-7623 rep.jon.lundberg@capitol.tn.gov
  4. HB 1748 as amended is on notice in Civil Justice sub Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 3:00.  Would be nice to see some additional support in the room.
  5. The NRA does not delve into the machinations of the State much.  You and I will have a much better chance of getting something done rather than waiting on the NRA to invest in that small part of Tennessee Gun issues. The only way it will happen is if someone can talk one of those Conservative legislators into actually writing the change.  I have had a few conversations, come on up and help show that there is impetuous for such an effort on the part of the Citizens.
  6. The language in the TCA is this: TCA 39-17-1359 [c](1) It is an offense to possess a weapon in a building or on property that is properly posted in accordance with this section. (2) Possession of a weapon on posted property in violation of this section is a Class B misdemeanor punishable by fine only of five hundred dollars ($500). This is where we will start next session, to remove the "offense".  I think the Establishment has encouraged the more Conservative legislators to take the issue on in the next session.  In fact, it should be a question at every stump speech as this is an election year...if we the Citizens are truly interested in seeing a change.
  7. We will never know what the conversations were as it has been judicially determined that the legislative branch is not a governmental agency for the purposes of the Public Records Act and, therefore, its internal records are not open for inspection pursuant to Tennessee Code Annotated §10-7-503. As in Thanatopsis, they (legislature) have pulled the draperies of their couch about them, and sunshine is not allowed in.  Just as we will never know what Beth and Gerald knew about Durham, they have created impenetrable walls of cover... A number bandied about for the "changes to LP" for allowing HCP carry was at or in excess of $1,000,000.00, not officially published, but offered as a reason to not "pursue" the issue at this time.
  8. Show your permit in Texas, stroll on through, no searches, no metal detectors.  No permit, though the search line and metal detectors you go.
  9. Why don't you get with Mark White or Jim Coley (or whoever you Representative is), and see if they will write that bill for you?
  10. Being somewhat involved with this one, the Civil Justice Committee has made a "request" to add in at least a training component. It has been suggested that any certified instructor can teach the class (NRA, State, Firearms Manufacturer Armorer etc.) and the newly certified would get a card signed under penalty of perjury, (like the current "wand" certificates required by the State).  Current permit system would remain for those (like me)that want to keep the Full Monty for reciprocity purposes, and to keep at least some money coming into DOS to keep their current employees on staff, that would help with the fiscal note. Do I think even this has a chance to pass, not much, the sponsors COULD invoke Rule 53 and bring it to the floor for an up or down vote, but I do not know yet if they will.  Will be decided this week.  If not, we run the original as is and count the votes in committee, at least we get to assign fault where it actually lies. Keep in mind, a lot of these rascals (legislators) carry in LP, they know how important it is to be armed, just will not buck the Chamber to let you and me do it.
  11. Check out SB 1483.
  12. So, you just want to remove the fine, or the criminal charge as well?
  13. As Long as Charles Sargent is the double naught-naught operative for Beth and Bill, they will make up a fiscal note to kill any bill they do not like.  Does not have to be true...
  14. From the Article: A lawsuit to be filed within weeks against the city of Knoxville, Mayor Madeline Rogero and organizers of the Tennessee Valley Fair will claim a civil conspiracy deprived residents of their rights to carry guns at last year's fair, according to an attorney for the Tennessee Firearms Association... Attorney Andrew Fox told a gathering of more than 50 TFA members Tuesday night that a public records request has revealed the Rogero administration unlawfully conspired with the fair organizers to ban lawful handgun permit-holders from Chilhowee Park. I really liked this one: Meanwhile, Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch told East Tennessee lawmakers that if police are working security at a public venue, that venue should be allowed to ban firearms. "Where a venue hired law enforcement to secure that venue, we feel there's enough guns there already," Rausch told nine legislators at a breakfast in Rogero's office Wednesday. http://www.knoxnews.com/news/local/second-lawsuit-to-be-filed-over-gun-ban-at-tennessee-valley-fair-289ff24f-adfb-53ec-e053-0100007f1f9-364435741.html
  15. A very good happening occurred today with the agreement of a prominent House member to Sponsor a much needed piece of legislation. (Senate sponsor was already locked down) As soon as the GA decides to update their website for the second half of the 109th  General Assembly, those sponsors and the bill will be available for scrutiny. I have some meetings next week that will give an indication of how easy or hard this may be, but I can promise a strong attempt!
  16. It will all depend on what the Speakers are going to allow. You want to make a difference, start talking to Beth Harwell and Ron Ramsey.
  17. I have a range in the back yard, well constructed, (it helps to head up a construction co. get the use of free equipment, and spoil haul off from local jobs makes the berm bigger at no cost...it sits in the bottom of a deep ravine that is over 30' in depth and points away from any of my neighbors, and is at least 200 yards from the nearest property , much less house) My used to be neighbors (hubby worked for the State as some type of accountant at DOT) called in on me shooting one Saturday. The Deputy was very professional, looked over the safety aspect, commented on how nice my range was, and upon finding there was no reckless endangerment, asked if he could burn a few rounds with his new weapon.  I happily acquiesced to his request and we fired over 100 rounds over the next little bit, his car sitting far enough down my driveway that they could see it from their front door. Fire forming some of my wildcat rounds seems to aggravate them, and unloading the smoke pole at the end of season is particularly satisfying on  my part.  The JPD Officer from across the road uses it as much or more than I do.  I never shoot on Sunday, nor late afternoons or early morning, it is a 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM endeavor.  I bought the acreage for its ability to allow such activities.  They moved a few years ago, and their son who lives there now has never said anything about it, and I don't call in on him and his friends for their bar-b-ques that get a little loud, he at least picks up the beer cans from the road...
  18. Is that just for Virginia residents, or does it apply to any US Citizen?
  19. Did not think to check Chat, I figured it was a 2nd Amendment issue.
  20. From the article: "The states are: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming." These States no longer have reciprocity with Virginia! http://townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/2015/12/22/virgina-to-drop-long-held-concealed-carry-reciprocity-agreements-with-other-states-n2096229
  21. Released - Monday, December 26, 2011 The Obama administration has decided to eliminate a 1998 restriction on the sale of guns to foreigners, claiming federal law does not allow the government to have different gun-control rules for noncitizens. In a letter to firearms dealers, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) said it would no longer require sellers to obtain proof from foreign buyers that they have lived in the state for 90 days. The rule was originally instituted after a disturbed Palestinian, 69-year-old Ali Abu Kamal, admitted to the United States on a legal nonimmigrant visa, bought a 380-caliber Beretta semiautomatic handgun in Florida and, on the observation deck of the Empire State Building in New York City, shot to death one person and injured six others.
  22. The lesson here is that the current Supreme Court is letting laws (Obamacare) stand on their own.  Robert's said if you want different results, elect different legislators and governors, (or, scare them enough to make them do the correct thing Constitutionally). This is the year, the sentiment is out there Trump has raided issues, and terrorist have acted in such a way lately to raise the anti for politicians.  I started walking the halls of LP yesterday, it is time to be heard.  Lame duck ineffectual governor and the scuffle for that seat has already begun. Make hay...
  23. Remember Robert's statement, paraphrased "you get the government you elect", (re Obamacare)! If you want different results, elect different legislators.
