  1. If only I had thought of that when I was attacked by a Chow when I was 7. Of course I was kind of preoccupied with the chunks he was taking out of my ass at the time. And when he charged me I had about .5 seconds tops to turn around so that it was my buttocks and not my junk upon which he was feasting.
  2. This. I have seen that Brian has been pretty fair to gun owners in his reporting so I have no beef with the article. But the things to remember are what Jreed pointed out above and the fact that Illinois, which is much stricter, has a higher crime rate. The point being that to correlate gun ownership with crime and try to paint gun ownership as the cause is dangerous. I would also be curious to see the total crime rate numbers, not just those committed with a gun, to see if they paint a different picture. In other words, could you associate a deterrent effect with guns.
  3. I have shot two Glock 34's. One of them was pretty awesome, the other I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with. I think the difference was in the height of the fiber optic sights in the two. The reason I didn't go with the 34 though is just that I'm an XD guy. This is my fourth XD/XDm. Also, this one came stock with the fiber optic sight and adjustable rear sight, two things that aren't stock on the 34. And if I were ever to purchase a Glock, I would never live it down from a forum member here. And the last thing he needs is an ego boost.
  4. So, a couple of weeks ago I bought a new XDm 9mm 5.25" Competition Series pistol like the one pictured below from Guns and Leather. I also ordered the PRP Ultimate Match Target XDm Trigger Kit since the only complaint I have about the XD/XDm line is the trigger. I received the trigger kit in the mail last Monday and installed it during lunch. This was the first trigger kit I have ever installed but the video linked to on PRP's site explained in full detail what had to be done. The trigger kit consists of a new sear, striker safety lever, trigger with over travel stop, sear spring, and trigger spring. Fitting required me to sand a bit on the sear and the striker safety lever (where the trigger bar comes back in order to reset) and quite a bit off the over travel stop. After about 1.5 hours everything was installed, fitted, and function checked. Someone with more experience may have been able to do it quicker but I was pretty pleased for my first time. On Tuesday I went back to Guns and Leather and put it through its paces. Out of about 120 rounds it failed to reset without a little help 3 times. So I took it home and sanded just a hair more on the striker safety lever and function checked again. On Friday it was out to Charlie's place for another round of test firing, which went off without a hitch. Then on Saturday I shot it at the MCTS 3 gun match. Let me say, I couldn't be happier. The PRP trigger kit reduced pull to probably about 3 pounds. I don't have anything to measure it with so I'm totally going to off of feel and comparing to the approximately 4.5 pounds that is stock. But it is light. And the reset is short. And there is no take up. As soon as the trigger safety is pressed, you pull and it goes bang. And though the gun comes with adjustable rear sights, I didn't have to make any adjustments. With the new trigger I was putting whole magazines through the a hole about an inch in diameter at 7 yards. Not bad for someone who only ranks about average. So if you get a chance to shoot this gun, do it. If you have this gun or an XD and are looking for an improved trigger, look at PRP. After shooting mine the wife says she wants a trigger kit (though not the competition kit) for her XD9SC. I will be reducing her take up and over travel soon while leaving the stock springs intact. That is all.
  5. I wonder why a guy who apparently knew he wasn't authorized to carry his guns on a plane did so anyway.
  6. I'd like to thank you for getting a designated driver too. I once lost a family member to a drunk driver on my way home from Academy Sports where I saw a guy shoot himself in the leg shortly before I took 6 to the chest myself only to come home and find that my parents house and every house in our neighborhood had been robbed. Luckily I stopped the robbers with my M4, but man was I sore the next morning.
  7. There used to be a halfway decent one down Nolensville Road. I think it may be gone now. But if you haven't tried it might I suggest Korean food? Way better than Chinese! Seoul Garden on Edmondson Pike and Nolensville Road is pretty good. Mana at 12th and Charlotte and The Korea House on Charlotte past White Bridge are also good. Of course there's always Thai food. Mmmm, Pad Thai!
  8. Ok, this little exchange had me horse laughing. Hi-frickin-larious I tell ya. This week.
  9. When I was in language school there was a guy that had 3 years reserve experience, plus one year active duty overseas, plus 3 years of college at Virginia Tech and I forget what else. He was 21. Hmmmm. He must have had that necklace that Hermione Granger has. That's right bitches, I just made a Harry Potter reference. Come at me bro!
  10. I've lived in the Northwest, California, the Southwest, the South, and even 9 years overseas. All of them have some pretty sweet things to offer. Scenery, skiing, ocean views, mountains. Aside from the nasty, humid summers here, Nashville is one of the best, if not the best place I've lived. I just wish they had more choices in international cuisine.
  11. This right here is what you should be focusing on. The rest is just the stuff you have to go through to reach this goal. Whether or not the accommodations being made for you is a matter of opinion, and on this subject only yours counts. If they can't or won't do more, then I would suggest you decide which is more important: grades or the diploma. In other words, don't climb the hill if you ain't willing to die on it. I think you know the answer already and it sucks that you have to bust your ass to learn the same things that others may not have trouble with. But it's your lot in life. I'm ugly and bald. Nothing either of us can do about it except do the best with what we have.
  12. I certainly hope there is more to the story. According to the second article linked they stopped him because they saw "a bulge in his pants." Since when is having a bulge in your pants illegal? Hell, every teenage boy on the planet would have to be stopped if this was the measure of someone committing a crime.
  13. Do you know if any of the money made of these is going to help recover missing soldiers/soldiers' bodies or anything? Very, very nice piece either way.
  14. Whew! That was close. We don't need to be startin' no rumors about XD butt!
  15. Meh, vandalism is vandalism, even when it's against radicals you love to hate. I think it's kind of petty and small-minded.
  16. You can't fix stupid. All you can do is try not to let it bother you. That's one of the reasons I don't shoot at ranges with RSO's.
  17. That is definitely some cool stuff. Thanks for posting.
  18. So you think that corruption and stupidity are going to get a federal agency abolished? More likely to get them extra funding.
  19. The one thing I noticed when I looked it up today is that gun buster signs do NOT carry the force of law. If you have any questions see www.opencarry.org and www.handgunlaw.us.
  20. That's a nice piece. Congrats.
  21. I know that was supposed to be comedy but the sad thing is it sounds exactly like most politicians.
  22. I think that's fairly normal within any extremely type A organization. A guy in a unit in which I served (before I was there) blew the whistle on a conflict of interest and his life was a living hell for years afterward. They kicked him out of the unit, killed his dog, and a bunch of other stuff. He got passed over for promotion and was basically humiliated by the military until he got 60 Minutes involved, which was after he was retired. His story ended up better though: Retroactive promotions and pay, Lieutenant General (3 star) being forced to retire, commanding officer also retired and some other stuff I can't think of. Anyway, the point is type A types don't like being made to look bad. And when they are they have a tendency to get pissy about it.
  23. Best Rick Perry (Texas state campaign chair for Al Gore's 1988 presidential campaign) impersonation I've seen yet.
  24. They created the center because they knew the best way to get government's money is to link the request to global warming.
  25. This is a tough one. The Libertarian in me agrees with this statement. The realist in me disagrees. I can say with confidence that my brother is the poster child for why felons should not have that right. But I do agree that a person who makes a good faith effort shouldn't have to pay for the rest of their life outside prison when they already did their time inside. Call me on the fence on this one.
