  1. Alright, going through a real first-world problem here folks! I am looking at purchasing my first 308 chambered AR rifle in the near future. I am looking to spend around the $1k mark, which obviously limits my choices some. The rifle will be used for hunting and the occasional range session. So far I have looked at these options: PSA Gen 2 build (the cheapest option, so room in the budget for an optic), a Savage MSR 10 Hunter (really like the way this rifle looks), a S&W M&P 10 or M&P 10 Sport, and the Springfield Saint Victor. So far the Springfield I think has the narrow lead over the Savage. Just looking for input, let's talk! Any other rifles I should be considering that I haven't listed besides Diamondback?
  2. I have been doing a little research and there is a well-reviewed independent agency in my area (Chattanooga area) by the name of Atlas Insurance. They have a 5 star rating with 63 google reviews. Think I may give them a ring and see what they can do for me. Shot in the dark, any first-hand experience here with them? Its funny because when I was younger, all I heard was that as you get older insurance gets cheaper, that there was a big drop off at age 25, yadda yadda ya. It is quite the opposite actually. I am 33 and insurance has done nothing but went up steadily for me over the years.
  3. Ahh ok. Im assumning they charge for this service? Or are they like the travel agents of yester-year?
  4. An independent agent as in one of the two licensed agents in my town? I have a State Farm agent and a Farmers agent. Will they shop for me? Sorry for the ignorance, never done it that way.
  5. That brings up another point. I talked with one friend who seemed to think I should just stay with Allstate. His reasoning was that Ive had positive interactions with them all this time, through both claims, and that in his book was reason enough to stay, even at a higher rate. I really dont like how much my rate went up after my accident though, especially consider it was MY first ever claim with them. My wifes claim was 5 or 6 years ago as well. No tickets either.
  6. I have been a faithful Allstate customer for many years, about 12 to be exact. I carry our auto and home insurance with them. I have kept them so long because our rates have always been reasonable (not great, but reasonable) and had a very positive experience with them when my wife had a mild auto accident several years ago (our only claim ever with them at the time). I myself had been accident free the WHOLE time with them up until January 10th of this year. I had my first auto accident in 12 years. It was my fault, and I got a citation for failure to yield the ROW. Well, as to be expected, my insurance rates went up, but they went up a very considerable amount. So now I am considering shopping around to see if I can get better rates elsewhere. I live in a small town, and the only local agents I have are a Farmers agent and a State Farm agent. Keep in mind I do have this accident showing now. I like hearing first hand experiences, and I put a lot of value on my TGO friends' opinions. So, any input on where I should look? Opinions on companies to avoid? I have not shopped for insurance in over a decade, so Im out of the loop. Thanks in advance.
  7. Yes it did help, thanks. Also thanks for the tax stamp information.
  8. Unfortunately there is not a TN ammo tax stamp on it.
  9. I recently inherited my grandfather’s Colt Agent that he has carried for years and years. I am lucky enough that he is still with me, but he is getting of an advanced age and is starting to think about these things. Just wanted to share a couple pictures. Also pictured are a couple boxes of ammo that came with the gun that appear to have some age on them as well. Anybody got any info they would care to share on the white-cased USAC ammo? Never seen them before.
  10. When the dehydrator's goin, I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve.
  11. Im kinda surprised nobody has mentioned directv now. We had Charter for a few years, but recently got the "your promotional period is coming to an end" letter stating that they were raising our bill about $60 more a month. I gave them a call to "threaten" turning off my service if they couldn't get it back down to what it was, and they would not work with me. So I switched. My brother started using directv now about a year ago, and every time I went to his house I was impressed by the channel selection and user friendly layout, so I was already aware of the service. Word of warning however, it is not perfect. At times it can be glitchy and slow, but for the most part we are very happy with them. They have 3 packages that I can remember. The first one is 45/month, then 55/month, and the last one is 65/month if I remember right. Obviously with more money you get more channels, but even the lowest price package channel list is impressive. We chose the middle package and added on hbo and it is 65 and some change per month. Definitely not the cheapest option out there, but we are happy. We are getting all of our favorite channels we had with Charter. We have two small kids, so unfortunately decent tv is not something we can really do without if we want SOME peace and quiet in the house The on-demand stuff is so much better than we ever had with Charter as well: much more selection. May be worth checking out for you. They have a free 7 day trial as well so if you decide its not for you cancel within the first 7 days and no harm no foul.
  12. I printed out the application last night to do this for my son. He turned 2 in June, and the price goes up considerably when they get over 3. I should have done it already but you know....life. The way I understand it is after you fill it out, a copy of your DL and his birth certificate has got to be sent in with the application.
  13. Your pricing is MORE than fair! Its a straight up steal in my eyes. I know how much I have in my converted S12, and if I didnt have one I'd be all over yours!
  14. I was going to quote your post and say same thing around here, but the I saw/remembered you are in the Chattanooga area too lol! You hit the nail on the head though, pawn shop prices around here are ridiculous. It reminds me going in a gun show and seeing the prices there! Especially considering the current market and how you can usually get a brand new version of whatever model it is for an insignificant amount more. Edited to add: Hey look! Post 1234!
  15. Very true. I also agree that NOW is the time to be buying all that you want and can. We all know it is just a matter of time before these golden days disappear.
  16. Right. I am definitely not so naive to think that this will last forever, or even a long time for that matter. Its just crazy how much the market fluctuates dependent, mostly anyways, on the current administration. It is most definitely a buyers market, unless you are in the market for surplus guns like Mosins, SKS's, etc! I really cant believe how much they have risen in price. I am glad I am not in a position to where I need to sell any guns right now, that's for sure. As I mentioned earlier, I have way more money in some of my firearms than I would ever get back on them in the current market. Im sure many of us here are in the same situation!
  17. Let me start out by saying I have been out of the scene for a little while, while I adjusted to some new life events that took place. I have just recently started to dip my toes back in the hobby, and after really looking around at some of my past go to web sites for guns and ammo, all I can say is wow! It seems as though you cant hardly give an AR away right now. I was checking out some of PSA's deals and right now you can build your own brand new one for $350 (daily deal). Furthermore, whats up with Mosin Nagants? Even Aimsurplus is at $300 for a bottom of the barrel model 91/30? I didnt even give that for my almost pristine M44 carbine just a few years ago. Even here in our own classifieds section, great deals are going unnoticed. I was prowling around in there yesterday and saw a converted Saiga 12 listed at $650 with no bites! I have at least 1K in my converted S12. That was just one among many though. Lastly, ammo. It is the cheapest I have seen it in a longgg time, which is great! Please remember I am just now really stopping to take a look around after a roughly 3 year hiatus, so you can imagine my shock at what I am seeing.
  18. Yeah the weather is not cooperating at all. Me and a buddy are going to go out and give it a try next Saturday, if the weather permits. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. About to be Crappie time here in TN! A friend posted a picture yesterday of a very good mess he caught already. Seems a little early yet but it's coming, you guys ready?
  20. I need some advice. Anybody here ever shipped anything through a freight service? A guy in Arizona has a cage for my rzr I want to purchase, and he is willing to ship it. Obviously it will need to go through a freight service, perhaps SAIA or Estes. It actually wouldnt take much work on his part other than wrapping what he can up in plastic and dropping it off somewhere. The problem is neither him or I have ever went through the process of shipping something over freight so we are both kind of lost. Would he just need to take the cage to his local SAIA or Estes hub and get a quote? Thanks for any advice or insight on the matter.
  21. I went yesterday morning. Had a doe and her small spotted fawn come right under me at about 8:30. Unfortunately that is all I saw. I am gonna head back out tomorrow morning. Looking for my first bow harvest this year.
  22. Thanks for all the info and kind words. It had also crossed my mind to take this rifle hunting. I guess I will just need to experiment with various rounds to find out what works best in the gun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Are there any manufacturers of m2 ball I should try to stay away from if I can? Where exactly is the line drawn in dealing with surplus m2 ball? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
