  1. I am starting to carry my S&W model 36 3" now. I took it to the range last weekend and it shoots great and is accurate. It is also faster to deploy and shoot.
  2. I recently bought a Henry Big Boy level action rifle in .357. It feeds 38 special flawlessly too. I love this rifle and it seems to be a big hit at the range. You load it through the tube like a tube fed 22, which I didn't think I would like but it's actually easier than loading each round through the trap door. The octagonal barrel is heavy and it kind of makes it off balance (barrel heavy) compared to the Marlin but shooting it is a dream. Even with hot Black Hills .357 loads the recoil is mild. With 38 Special it just goes "POOF". Here is a good article of the .357 magnum lever action. http://www.thetrutha...-vs-357-magnum/
  3. It's good to be alive and in Tennessee!
  4. Thanks for an excellent review. I'm a Ruger man myself but my 1911 has a pony on the slide.
  5. Savage and Marlin make a fine bolt action rifle. I have a Marlin model 100 from 1935 that was my father's when he was a boy. It still shoots great. Those old Marlins sell used for around $70 if you can find one. Glad you are wanting a bolt action 22 instead of a semi-auto. I think kids learn to shoot more accurately when they get one shot.
  6. There was a young man kicked out of a liquor store recently for sagging and I had the privilege of seeing it. The clerk told him to pull up his pants and he didn't so he was told to leave...no booze for you fool. The clerks started railing on this guy and making fun of him. It was hilarious. They told him everything I have always wanted to say to a sagger and more. By the time the 6'6" LEO escorted him out, everyone in the store was laughing.
  7. Just wondering about carrying a handgun in the small of my back. I have two reservations 1) sitting in a chair and 2) I worry that someone could take my handgun from my holster. Just walking around it would seem that SOB carry would be comfortable and easy to conceal. I would like to here from someone who does SOB carry and how they do it.
  8. RIP Mike. You were a journalist when they had earned respect. You earned mine.
  9. The best advice I can give you is to take a class in handgun self defense and then practice, practice, practice until it's second nature. I have only had to draw a gun in self defense one time during a home invasion and I did everything wrong. I got lucky and did not have to shoot. The "bad guy" was my drunk Viet Nam vet neighbor who got his house confused with mine. He realized his mistake and went home before he gained entry.
  10. COOL! You guys are the best!
  11. Remember when Tommy Lee Johns told Robert Downy JR. to "Get yourself a Glock and lose that nickel-plated sissy pistol." What pistol was it?
  12. Excellent collection! Might I suggest a Ruger GP-100 with Hogue monogrips.
  13. Update from the O.P.: My DB380 is on it's way back to Florida for warranty repairs. I traded my XDm-40 today for a Sig P-238. The XDm-40 was a great pistol but a "Safe Queen". I have 45s and 9s but that was my only 40.
  14. Today I'm carrying the Ruger LC9 in an N8squared IWB holster. I like the 7+1 capacity and I have gotten used to the trigger.
  15. Thanks for the feedback and good advice. The DB380 will shoot 2 inch groups at 7 yards and it's shoots remarkably well for such a light pistol, it's shame that it's been unrliable for me. I will think long and hard about what my needs are and what I expect out of a back up/pocket gun. I have a S&W model 36-1 J frame and a Ruger LC9, both are reliable. Maybe I don't need no stinkin' 380. I'll let you guys know how this saga turns out.
  16. I didn't by a pocket pistol for plinking at the range. I bought it to get me out of a life and death situation. Why I suddenly got cheap is because..... I'm an idiot! If you want to go cheap, get a cheap range gun. Don't go cheap on a pocket pistol...be smart. I'm just about fed up with my "little friend" the DB380 from Diamondback. The first pistol worked great for about 18 months and 200 rounds, until the trigger went all floppy and it would not break down for cleaning. I sent it back and two weeks later I got a brand new DB380. I shot it 36 times, had 12 light strikes and one failure to eject from battery...then the trigger went all floppy and it won't disassemble. SON OF A .........! Tomorrow I take it back to the gun store for them to send it back. I'm going to trade in my XDm-40 which I have only shot 150 rounds through (and have no use for) and get me a quality pocket gun. A Khar or a Sig. Diamondback has a lifetime warranty for the original owner. When it comes back I will try again to get it reliable.
  17. Sonny I am going to send mine off for a trigger job too. I have heard the the trigger will break in after a while, but I have also heard they do a fantastic trigger job as CZ. Post when you get it back and shoot it. I gots to know!
  18. I do see your point and I carry a .357 in the woods. I have dealt with wounded animals.... mostly squirrels and a few deer. A wounded squirrel can be vicious. I have never had to deal with a wounded black bear. I do know what 16 rounds of good 9mm ammo can do and I would feel OK carrying my Glock 19 as a side arm in black bear country. I have been hiking before and I would carry my 9mm before I would haul around a anvil or a 454 casul.
  19. If a snake has elongated pupils, like a cat, it is a pit viper (Cottonmouth, Copperhead, Rattler) and is poisonous. If it has round pupils it is non-poisonous. That's a sure fire way of telling.
  20. I was denied both times when I applied for a pistol purchase permit from the county sheriff. Both times it was BS. The sheriff in my county is anti-gun and they deny permits all of the time hoping that you will not pursue the matter. 1st time: "Mr. Carry your permit was denied because you have a criminal record." I said "Sargent Cayton I don't have any criminal record at all!" He said "Were you involved in an assault on a police officer in Hoke county in 1984? (That's Fort Bragg)" I said, "I was in Tennessee in 1984 going to school". He said " Alright Mr. Carry come by and pick up your permit." 2nd Time: "My Carry their is a warrant out for your arrest in Massachusetts for failure to appear in court on a traffic violation." "But Sargent Cayton, I have never been to Massachusetts!" I had to call the magistrate in Massachusetts and have them fax the sheriff that I was not the William Carry they wanted. I then got my second permit. After that I got my concealed carry permit and I don't have to got through the sheriff to purchase a handgun.
  21. Until I shot my new CZ-75 SP-01 I thought that nothing could beat my Colt 1911. If my CZ-75 had a trigger job it would be more accurate than my 1911 but as is stands it's very close.

    Ticks

The ticks are awful this year. I went out pond fishing this weekend and found six crawling on me. I use off, or anything with DEET as a repellent. When I get home I undress on the back porch, then put my clothes directly in the washing machine, then shower and then do a visual search of my body. Lyme disease is forever. Those little "seed ticks" can ruin your life. http://www.sportsmans-necessities.com/TickSpray.html This link is for a tick poison that you can spray on your clothing that will kill the little devils. I have not used it yet but I understand if use correctly it is safe and effective.
  23. I agree. I don't know what really happened. If there is a trial then maybe the facts will come out.
  24. Dave, you are wise and usually, you are correct and more than a worthy opponent in a forum discussion. Dave I have to agree with you on your point that if you instigate a fight, you can't use deadly force. In North Carolina that is the law. You can't pick a fight and then kill the guy because he is winning. I do contend that being is a street fight is very dangerous. I earned my black belt in Tae Kwon Do in 1975 and I can attest to the fact that you can get killed, blinded and maimed, in a street fight by a single blow. Today, I'm a crippled old man and I couldn't fight my way out of a field of tulips but I could still kill a man with a single "knife hand" blow to the throat.
