Was trying to avoid traffic northbound on I-65 today and use the Ellington (lately as I often do). After leaving downtown, came to the stop where you turn left to go towards Ellington. Had both my boys in the car and while stopped at the light, one says, Dad what is that guy doing? One guy gets out of the car flips off another while cursing. Guy 2 get's out of the other car at the light and within a split second is beating the living crap out of the other guy. I'm not talking about a few punches. I'm talking he would have killed him or close at the rate he was going. It appeared to me the amount of rage the guy had he was whacked out on something or just nuts but I've seen a lot of fights and this was totally insane. I was the 1st through the light and stopped my car in the middle of the intersection and opened my window, dialed 911 and screamed to the guy, get the ---- off him, I called 911 and the cops are on the way. He got up and into his car. I don't carry every day and in light of this, probably will start. Had I been, I'd certainly felt a whole lot better with kids in the car. However, would have handled it same way. Makes you think when/if someone like this attempts to get into the car. Guy number 1's first mistake was getting out of his car with an unknown entity. Guy 2 was nuts. As I have always been told, a car is your best weapon. Saw that a few years ago at a buddy's when I was visiting. Lot's of lessons for the kids seeing this as we discussed on the way home. They never seen anything remotely like this and were pretty freaked out. I tried to explain how quickly things escalate, especially when people are compromised w/ drugs etc.

Probably need to talk to local PD and ask. Technically, you should not where I live. We half 1.5 acres lots here but the guy at the end of the street shoots handgun into a hill often.

My CMMG conversion is in my Bushy about as accurate as my M&P 15/22.

What is the distance and caliber for the class? -
Went up to stay at brother in-laws house on Buckeye Lake in OH over Father's Day. Turns out it was approx 1 hr from Thunder Valley Precision. So of course, we had to see it. Thunder Valley does long range training and has a range out to 1 mile w/ targets at various distances. We spent that morning on the 1,000 yard gong. Two things I told myself going here to shoot at that distance. I would not spend it sitting in the rain or high winds, just did that last month and did not need to do it again so soon. Unfortunately, we did both. Weather was horrible. Cold, really windy and rain on and off. Probably the worst conditions we have ever shot in at that distance. However, we still had fun. Never shot a suppressed rifle at 1,000 yards before. That was really cool. Range guy let us shoot his GAP .260 w/ a Shark suppressor. No kick! That thing was like shooting a .22 compared to shooting my .308 BA. This range sits out in coal mine territory in OH. It's very hilly and actually, looks a lot like TN. The view in the video is basically looking off the back of this guys house. Imagine having a 1 mile range off your back deck. Here is my son hitting the 12 x 12" gong at 1,000. Good way to spend Father's Day! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VReTRI4KW6Y

Last time I checked, there was a bunch of M2 ball (Greek stuff) still on Gunbroker. That's fine to use and pretty darn accurate.

I've brought mud boots and rolled up the pants to get out there. It's usually bad in the spring but usually dry by this time of year. Been a wet year. It will be dry in July.
-
Thank you. However, all I can take credit for is providing an accurate rifle and helping get on target. From there it was all him.
-
Yes. A box stock Savage 10 BA w/ the muzzle break removed and was shooting 175g SMK rounds.

I don't like to brag about my kids publicly but I think in this case, he deserves it. My son got the F class bug and wanted to try some of these matches. Anyone that knows him, knows he's a pretty darn good shot on various platforms. However, we never did 1,000 until this Feb. He tried his 1st match and had a rough start getting on paper. Once he did, he did pretty decent for the 1st time out, especially at 14 years old. He missed the 1st relay so we never shot a full match. Yesterday he shot in the ORSA match in Oak Ridge. Only 2nd time at 1,000 and 1st full match. On his 1st relay he shot a 182 out of 200. Few 8's but mostly 9's and 10's. I made him a bet that when/if he ever did better than 500 total for a match, I would buy him lunch wherever he wants. After yesterday, I have to pay up. He shot a total score of 522 out of 600. He got in the bullseye four times with a 4X's. He made all his own elevation and windage corrections. He got a tip from a paired shooter and started watching the other shooters where they were correcting. So I am extremely proud of him and think he did a fantastic job at any age for a starter, let alone 14. That match is extremely well run and moves at a good pace. Lastly, the people there were great. Thanks Harold and Jeffery for the tips and scoring. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLA3YZmoG4I

I figured based on the conversation we had in the rain. You going to let her start shooting matches? -

Nice! You have a BBC street rod pick-up by any chance??? -
Yes, that's what I mean. Depends on the book and bullet mfg. Sierra for some reason does not recommend anything over 41.7g of Varget for use w/ a 175g SMK in a .308. However, most people load somewhere between 43-45g of Varget for 1,000 yard shooting. Yet other mfg's/manuals recommend a little more. I'm sure it's for liability reasons. All that being said, I have found 43.5 of Varget with a 175g SMK is pretty much the same as a factory Black Hills 175g box load. That would be considered a "hot" load by Sierra's book but is pretty consistent with factory box ammo.
-
Some that shoot 1,000 yard F class depending on altitude/conditions will shoot a hotter load to make sure you are supersonic to the target.
-
I always said I would never reload, however, now I do because the 175g .308 Black Hills I used is impossible to find. I'm pretty OCD with numbers and mechanical things, thus I will only shoot factory or my own loads. Seems most of the problems I ever heard about were somebody shooting someone else's loads.

Terry's is a fun place to go, you can shoot targets or steel. MGSC is probably one of the nicest ranges and they give you a golf cart to use for 400 yards.
-
I have never signed for ammo and I've had a bunch shipped.
-
Sorry to hear that. My number 1 concern would be being a Lions fan! :)

Has any one been to the new range eagle eye shooting range ?

Nope but thanks for posting. I will now. -
There are some nice areas. A good customer of mine lives there near the CC, nice area. Just south heading out of town on 110 towards Ardmore is nice as well.

Cutting wood and moving wood will wear you out! Worse yet, last fall I played "2 hand tag" football with some family at a B-day party. Well 2 hand tag pretty much turns into shoving/tackle with a bunch of 30-50 year olds drinking beer. I consider myself in fairly good shape, however, I was so sore the next day I literally had to roll out of bed.

OhShoot almost got shot today, idiots don't need to own guns

Glad that worked out in a positive and not the other way around. I had a conversation more than once with someone regarding unsafe practices at a local range. It did not sink in. I finally had to put it in writing and leave a note on their car when I left. Sometimes things in writing have more impact. If they are reading this, they know who they are. -
What I found interesting. Yes, they show a case being trimmed and a nice polished case at that. Then the scene where he chambers the round in the M-14, it's a ratty scratched up round that looked like range brass. It's the little things they always miss in movies.
