  1.   Ditto. What we did.   http://www.rescueagolden.org/
  2. "Rock Solid" is by far the best mount.
  3. That clown has no idea of the long term implications of his statement. But then again, they never do.
  4. I did not imply you said it was outdated. Just hear that often when you tell someone you shoot .308 at 1,000 yards. I use it because of F/TR. Only choice is .223 or .308.  I really don't want to get my son into F open yet, I've already spent enough on him for F/TR. He needs to get a job and help Dad pay for his ammo!  :)   Now that being said, we shot once up at Thunder Valley in OH at 1,000 just for fun in really bad wind. We burned up a ton of ammo getting on target w/ the .308. Guy we were with brought a 6.5 Norma and we all were on target in 1st shot. That velocity really helped w/ the wind.
  5. Here is my 14 year old son, making a hit on 12x18" steel at 1,100 yards with one of of those outdated .308 rounds!   ;)    My rounds are a "bit" hotter than box ammo, however.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr-s1eZRHo0
  6. You can plot it however you want by changing the X & Y parameters.  My point in all this was, people often rule out .308 for long distance. It can be very accurate out to 1,000+ yards. Other calibers can do it faster, with less recoil but .308 is still a great round and more plentiful for people that don't reload.   For reading pleasure. Probably the best thread I have seen on long distance .308 shooting. Guy did a nice job.   http://forum.snipershide.com/elr-beyond-1000-yards/124215-308-1000-1178-1385-1650-1950-meters.html
  7. Yep, you have to be supersonic to the target. They get a little pissed when people show up and keyhole the targets or tumble and hit the berm. Here would be a pretty close graph on a 175 SMK at that distance.
  8.   No kidding. That's why I put the smile there.   As I explained in detail, imagine the odds of the bird and the bullet in the same spot, same time at 900. You know how many deg the bullet is falling at 900. It was a once in a lifetime hit and I'm glad I was there. Sorry part for him was, match director called it a miss!   Not sure his velocity but using mine, bullet would have dropped roughly 22 ft when it hit.
  9.   How does that relate to .308?   Yes, above person did that. He won the state F/TR title last year.
  10. You know how accurate .308's can be? I watched a guy shoot a crow flying at 900 yards with one!  :)    Seriously.   I don't know if he comes on here but Alleycat was the one spotting for him. Was pretty funny. On his 3rd shot at 1,000 yard F class, the crow flew across the field and the bullet hit it, splitting the crow in two.   I still think about that often when I shoot long distance. What were the odds the crow and the bullet were in the same spot and the same time at that distance.
  11. Ditto on the 300WM. I shot one (without a brake) and found is was not as much fun after 5-6 rounds. A .308 with a brake (even without) you can shoot all day long, and we do.   With an accurate rifle and accurate ammo, you can shoot .308 out to 1,100-1,200 yards effectively.
  12. Ditto on the suppressor.   Even if you are legal, a suppressor makes the situation less noticeable to others.  :)
  13. Not sure where you are hearing about this wear issue?   You might want to spend some time over on "Accurate Shooter" and read up some on wet stainless tumbling. I can guarantee you, there is not a bunch of more finicky hand loaders than you will find on those forums. Many are national F class and benchrest competitors using the wet tumbling method. I've never seen any reported issues of excessive wear. Nor have I seen any issues myself.   Food for thought.
  14. I've probably cleaned close to 1,000 rounds this way. Not sure about the wear and tear. Many of the F class guys I shoot with use this method as well. It cleans the inside and primer pocket and saves a lot of time. I'm cleaning Lapua brass that cost $1.00 case and I have not had any issues w/ wear.   Here is a great video some guy did that shows you how to get into this on a budget.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKTdx7VRsd8
  15. Trust me, go with wet stainless tumbling. You will never go back to dry tumbling.
  16. We went to the range one time w/ so much stuff, when we sat and totaled it up, the guns were worth more then the truck!
  17. When we went to see Lone Survivor, a grown man (not a teeneage kid) walked up and sat at the end of the row we were seated in. He texted almost the entire movie. It was really annoying at first but I managed to ignore it. You could not hear it, you just saw his phone light up every 30 seconds. He got up and left before the movie was completely over.   I thought who pays this much to come to a movie, sit and text through it and leave before it's over?    Some people..................
  18. VERY intense and well done.   Wow!
  19. A guy at one of the matches we were at this year won 1,000 yard F/TR with a .223.   Obviously was not his 1st rodeo but he out shot the .308 guys at that distance. Heard he used a Berger 90g VLD.
  20. I have two and hate them but it's what house came with when it was built.   Best heat I ever had was hot water. Always felt warm and when boiler was up to temp, the pump just circulated the water.
  21. Another vote for Savage!
  22. The comments at the bottom are a good read.
  23. "Never argue with a fool"
  24. Space provided, I would buy a bigger one than you think you need. You will be glad in the long run.
