  1. Probably would have been more penetration if he held the pistol sideways!  :)   Seriously though, I don't see the point trying pistols rounds? The lifter valley area is a bad indicator of penetration, it's always a weak area on a block. The side of the block would tell you more.
  2.   Going to be a pink AR-15....................
  3. "Wired".   Best album he did. Yes, I said album!  :)
  4. Nice!   I searched for years for a Stevens 20 ga double barrel SXS. My father in-law bought his new around '67 and I finally found one just like it. Looks very similar.   Nice gun.
  5.   Yes factory barrel, cut to 24" and 11 deg crown. I polished it on a wheel and keep it oiled. Been that way for over 2 years and no rust. Everyone who sees it for the 1st time thinks it's stainless.
  6. Nice!
  7. Why not just get the Timney?
  8.   I have Garand's, other original more rare Mosin's, K31 etc. that are all original. So one cheap 91/30 could be cut up.   And yes it shoots. I've been tweaking some handloads for it but best so far is around 1 MOA out to 400. Not a target rifle but not bad for an 80 year old rifle.
  9.   That was a point in time. We are at a different point in time.
  10.   Very good in my '43 Win. Pretty decent at 100. Good enough to put 8 on a man sized silhoutte at 400 and hit steel at 500 w/ it.   Can't be that bad!
  11. My wife works there and said it's around (or going to be) 1,000 total.
  12. Here is mine w/ Rock Solid mount and a plethora of other mods.
  13. Personally, I like the Rock Solid mount.
  14. Did anyone see the press conference? Shooting topic, 60 seconds. He used the rest of the 5 min as a platform to discuss his agendas, Syria, economy, taxes, health care, jobs..............................   Seriously???  (insert shaking head)
  15. I ran into some people at the range talking about coming to next shoot and trying 1,500. Thought I would update this for people coming to next time. FYI, there is no steel at the 1,500 target area, just a paper stand. Would be impossible to see your shots until we went cold. It's my understanding the 1,500 target area is also very difficult to get to. Most if not all the shooting there was done between 500 and 1,100 yards.   Also, Rockcastle does not provide any targets, it's just a big field. We were lucky people (guys that arranged this) brought enough targets for everyone. Just an FYI. Did not want people next time to show up and be dissapointed there was not a steel target at 1,500.
  16. My Savage TRR-SR has done a best of .68" at 100 five round group using Lapua. It's a darn accurate rifle. Also likes Eley match and Tenex.
  17. Bunch of guys from the Hide went to Rock Castle yesterday to shoot out to 1,100 and 1,500 yards. Us .30 cal guys stuck with the 1,100 and 1,000 yard targets. Two guy w/ .338's were taking shots at the 1.500. Couple highlights of the day for our group: Retired Navy GMC came w/ his rifle zeroed at 100 and dialed up. He made a 1st round hit at 800, then we got him out to 1,000. I know he was pretty pleased with that. Ballistic Apps work! :) My son was the 1st of our group on at 1,000 in his 4th shot after figuring out the wind. We all made hits at 1,100 w/ my Savage 10BA. My personal highlight was, longest shot I have ever tried w/ iron sights. 1,050 yards with a Swiss K31. Cost me about $20 of ammo. I hit all around the target and finally got a hit at bottom of target. Glad I had a spotter for that, no way would I have got there without one. For some reason I knew I would be parked next to someone w/ a .338 laying prone! I need to spend today cleaning the dust off my rifle. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr-s1eZRHo0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkDI6twFmDQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVkmMMnDja4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3533_DGgT8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sZVeSeOaz8
  18. We have a wedding to attend in Oct and a friend of mine and I both agreed we are carrying the entire time.
  19. My oldest started at 6 w/ .177 pellet gun. Spent A LOT of time in the backyard w/ pellet guns.   Then .22, .223 and by 10 he was shooting a M1 Garand.
  20.   Found a good article on this. Section-Blast Baffle:   http://www.silencerresearch.com/sound_suppressors_on_high_powered_rifles.htm
  21.   Good question and I have no idea. A suppressor slows the time frame of the gasses escaping. Perhaps it makes it more uniform with relation to the velocity? No idea just guessing. Will have to read up on that.   It will change the POI, however. At least mine does. So you have to re-set zero after you install it. Not much but enough you will notice it and will want to correct if shooting longer distance.
  22.     Round 2 was in the white. Did not see it until we went down range.   When I tell people we shoot .22 this far (we tried 500 today but too windy) they say stuff like it must be falling etc. Any time spent on JBM or similar program will show you it's plenty lethal out to 400 yards if hit in a vital area.
  23. My son and I have been doing long distance .22 for a few years and today he took it to a new level and raised the bar on me. Some facts and background info. * He shoots A LOT and has shot a few 1,000 yard F class matches w/ .308 at 14 years old. He is pretty comfortable w/ windage, holdover etc. for a 14 year old and generally is a pretty (very) good shooter. * He has 20/10 vision is his right eye. I can't practice enough to overcome his advantage with this. * He was using a Savage TRR-SR which is an extremely accurate .22 rifle, by far the most accurate .22 we own. I installed a 20 MOA base and the rifle zeroed at 300 yards. Who zero's a .22 at 300? :) * A 6-24X power scope was used and set at 18X. * A Huntertown Arms suppressor was used (it tightens the groups). * For comparison, best 5 round group to date was .680" at 100 yards w/ Lapua Center X ammo. * Since we were shooting 300 yards, subsonic had too much drop. I used CCI Blazer w/ approx 1235 FPS muzzle. * Since I can't handload .22, every round is weighed to within .1g on my scale and then the bullet waxed. I did a test on that once and it cut groups in half. We shot at some paper targets 1st to get the windage dialed in. Once he figured out where the POI was, he made some corrections and was doing pretty darn good on paper at 300. Before we left, we were discussing the rifle w/ some others and got it out to shoot some steel again. He promptly put 4 rounds in approx a 4" group at 300 yards, with a .22! I attached pics of two different targets (I shot the larger one after him, reason for the extra splatter). Would be glad to answer answer any questions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGg2K0EQrkU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wG6te8-REA
