  1. Well, that's even more reason the tactic will be ineffective. The lawyer has his own agenda. Getting lots of people to call / harass him is not going to change his mind. So, he got a few people together, probably paid them or gave them some kind of perk, and they agreed to put their name on some piece of paper. They either truely believe this anti crap, or they prostituted their beliefs for a bag of silver. Either way, they don't represent the rest of the hardworking folks across this state. You offer up something shiney, you can find someone to take it. Again, I say we need to bring the fight to these people, not the folks who had nothing to do with it, and have zero power to change it.
  2. The lawyer works for his PAYING client. Other than getting even more pissed off and doubling his efforts, he won't give a flip if 10,000 servers call his office to complain, they aren't paying him. In my mind, stiffing the server just added one more person to the anti column. If you want to do something constructive, you have to fight fire with fire. Get involved, raise money, hire your own lawyer, pay for an ad campaign. This is the lengths the enemy has done. We got to meet them on their turf. Make an ally of your server. Tip them good, and attach a pamphlet to it. They work for the person who ows the place. Word will get back to the boss, and we may have another ally. Not tipping is the lazy way out. By doing that we really haven't DONE anything.
  3. Just had to renew my drivers license for the first time in I don't know how long. The bill said $37, and I thought OK, not so bad. I went online to pay it and they itemized the bill: $2 (processing fee) $17.50 (drivers license) and another $17.50 for my motorcycle endorsement. Just exactly why do I have to pay double for the privilege of driving a motorcycle? They should be giving me a discount on the fact that a motorcycle is very fuel efficient and is "green". I can see adding a few dollars to cover the cost of extra processing, or the one-time ever test you have to take, but double? It's like I had to get two seperate licenses. I keep full coverage on the bike and against other drivers if I have an accident. I also have excellent healthcare insurance. So, it's not like the state is going to get stuck with any bill I may owe. It's not about the money. Like I said, I thought $37 was OK, untill I found out what every one else pays. OK, I feel better now.
  4. This kid's loot really stands alone.
  5. Sounds to me like he had to pepperJACK his lunch.
  6. Why, exactly, is that? Is it because leagal carriers of handguns have such a bad record of carelessness?
  7. Ha! You expect these clowns to actually take the time to learn something? They can't even be bothered to read a ten page bill from AZ about illegals, or a bill that will cost taxpayers a gazillion dollars for healthcare and affect our way of life forever. Maybe someone could work up a cartoon and put it in MAD Magazine, it appears that is the only literature they ever read!
  8. Somebody please post the link to the page where the shirt is for sale and there are all the comments about it's powers.
  9. Boy, if that doesn't sound like boilerplate text. You could use that to reply to any topic at all, no matter your position. Why bother with actually replying back with a resonably thought out, personal response when you can just have some lackey spew these out one after another. Disgusting!
  10. You could tell he was frustrated, and at the end it was like he had just given up even trying. It also looked like every one of those men were in cahoots to intentionally snub him.
  11. From the GSM Home page... OK, not really

    Four Lions

I just saw the "Eat the SIM-Card" trick on 24 last week. Is that some new fangled terrorist technique they are teaching all the kids these days?
  13. I bought a MSR Hyperflow water filter for backpacking. It's supposed to filter everything but chemicals. A cartridge is good for a 1000 liters, which I guess would go quick with a family of 4. You'd have to only use it to filter drinking and cooking water. It's really small and light, costs just under $100, and would be a great addidion to your bug-out bag when you're not using it. It also filters water really fast. One of the fasted on the market. All the others I tried took forever to filter a gallon of water, and your arm felt like it was going to fall off when you finally got there.
  14. I don't think having the gun IN the car while parked at a public park is illegal, you just can't carry it in the park. Isn't there some provision that you can go to and from a park with a firearm, as if picking someone up?
  15. I had this exact problem on my dishwasher. Kept thinking it was the seal that went around the edge of the door. There was a clear plastic strip about 1.5" wide and as long as the door is wide, and about 1/32" thick that had fallen out. I thought I had it figured out where it went, but it kept falling out of place. I went and ordered a new one and had the same problem. Finally, I dook the door apart from the inside of the washer. There were several large headed screws to unscrew. I did it easily by myself, but an extra hand would have been nice. Once the inside panel was off, It was very clear where the strip went, and I was definitely doing it wrong initially. Put the strip in properly, screwed everything back together and it works perfectly. Not sure what your model is, but mine is a Fridgedaire Ultraquiet II.
  16. Sad part is that the person they spoke to for support, probably lives in India.
  17. Obama campained saying he knew what our problems were, and he was the man to fix them. If he just goes on blaming Bush, then he is saying either he was ignorant of what the issues really were and we shouldn't have voted him in, or he is not up for the job today, and should just step aside.
  18. Yes, my example requires adding extra to this account, otherwise it would take around 35 years (in a really good market) for $500 to become $10k. I just gave the example of the cruise to make a point. Since I'm just full of free financial advice today, and db99w brought up the topic of adding to the IRA, I'll throw this out there. You should be taking advantage of your employers 401k match to the fullest extent possible, but stop there. The rest that you want to invest goes into the IRA. Your company is offering you free money, take every last cent of it. But in reality, what you put in to meet their match is not enough. You should be adding a lot more. Everything above the match goes to the IRA for the same reasons I stated above for transfering into the IRA. Take the company match because they are giving it away, but above that you want to be in control of the money, not have it locked up in your company 401k. If you can swing the match, plus max out the IRA ( I think $3500 a year / person) then go back to the 401k and put whatever you can into it.
  19. There is some paperwork that needs to be done, but essentially, yes you would be taxed. You can pretty much figure paying 20% -25% of it in tax. Your broker can help with that too. You can either pay for it out of pocket (recommended) or take it out of the $700, and then investing the $550 or so. One cool thing about a ROTH, if you have one when you retire, a lot of people want to take a retirement trip, cruise, whatever. If you have a ROTH, you can dip into that to fund it. Let's say a cruise costs $10,000 for you and your wife. If you had only a 401k you'd take $10,000 out, plus whatever you need to live on for the year. You effectively increased your taxable earnings by the $10k, just to go on the cruise. With the ROTH, there is no extra tax burden. And there is some stupid rule that a ROTH has to be in place for a number of years (like 5-ish) before you can touch it. So start one now, let it grow and you'll be in good shape. The younger you are, the more you should be considering a ROTH. It is an awsome investment vehicle. BTW, I'm not a broker myself or some financial big shot. But I did take and teach the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace course at my church for several years. It's good, sound, simple advise that anyone can / SHOULD know. Also, just for clarity, you would not be taxed for opening and transfering into a standard IRA, just a ROTH IRA. Hope that helped.
  20. Did'nt read the part about bein less than $700. With that in mind, I'd consider opening a ROTH IRA. You have to convert it from tax-diverted by actually paying tax on the amount right now, but when you retire and start drawing from it, it is totally tax free, including whatever intrest you gained. The deal with converting it is this: you funded this 401k by pulling money out of your paycheck before they calculated your tax. So basically, you've never paid tax on this money. In a ROTH, you fund it with money that has already been taxed, but as it grows, you never have to pay any more tax -ever. So, the Gov't wants their tax money, which is why you have to convert it.
  21. DO NOT ROLL IT INTO YOUR CURRENT 401k!!! Go find an investment broker like Edward Jones and open up an IRA. If you roll it into your 401k you are locked into whatever options your company selects for you. For most employees this is 10-20 different options. On the open market in an IRA there are litterally 10's of thousands of choices. Also, when you roll it into your 401k that money is stuck there till you leave the company. If you are unhappy with the 401k performance, too bad. If you are unhappy with your IRA, move it to a different fund, or fire your broker and move it to another one. There are fees involved with the IRA, but they are minimal, and you have fees inside the 401k too, they are just hidden better. Plus a broker will handle all of the transaction for you. Basically you bring them an old statement and provide a signature on a form adn they handle the rest. It will be very easy. The hardest thing you'll hav eto do is pick out a broker from the phone book.
  22. You can also send a text similar to this: W 37830 and it will send you the weather report for the zipcode (37830). Or send M 37830 to get a list of movie times As for getting business info, texting Firehouse Subs Oak Ridge TN or Subway 37830 should work just fine. Text the word Help and you'll get back lots of tips Another fun fact, when using Goog411, as they are getting ready to place the call for you, say "SMS" and you'll also get a text with the business info.
  23. Personally, I'd narrow it down to Canon or Nikon. I like Canon myself, always owned something from them since I was a teenager. Either brand is great tho. The good thing is there are tons of lenses available for them, and you can buy them used. Like BK said, the lens is really what makes the camera. You might even consider a used camera. You might be able to step up to a better camera and still meet your budget. I've got an 8MP Canon DSLR that takes great pics. I rarely print any out, and they look fine on my monitor. I do want to upgrade to the latest Rebel they just released, the T2i. Has gotten rave reviews, and is making me lustful. It may be just over your budget at $900, but look for rebates to bring it down a bit. Also, it's predecessor the T1i was released only about a year ago, and really the main difference was an increase from 15 to 18MP. I think you might find some outstanding deals on that camera since it's no longer the newest. Both come with an 18-55mm Image Stabilized lens, which is very desireable. One thing that firearms and photography have in common, there is never a shortage of something you want to buy next. Good luck in your search.
  24. The other odd thing I noticed, is there is no traffic on the streets.
  25. One option is to list in in the giveaway section on Craigslist
