  1. ATF as an agency has earned it's reputation for being 'thugs'. I'm not going to detail every event. But try looking here: Learn about ATF abuse here. While it's true that every agency is going to have a few 'bad apples', ATF has more than it's share. If you really want to get into the reason the Firearms division is held in such low esteem, you need only look at their persecution of firearms owners. Waco and Ruby Ridge were both ATF operations that killed people over the supposed non-payment of a $200 tax. As for machine gun cases, ATF has variously ruled that shoe-laces, steel pipe, paperclips, a nail, a hole, and duct tape are 'machine guns'. They have sent otherwise law-abiding people to jail for trying to comply with the law, malfunctioning AR15s, 'constructive possession' (you MIGHT be able to make a MG with what you have in your garage), and a host of other acts that defy common sense. In the past, agents have routinely lied about the accuracy of the National Firearms Registry, refused to set ANY standards for testing, refused to allow expert witnesses for the defense, and given false testimony in court. In recent years, some progress has been made in working with ATF. The National Firearms Act Trade & Collectors Association (NFATCA.org) has helped ATF compile a NFA Handbook which explains ATF processes and procedures in detail. I have hope that ATF will continue to try to work WITH firearms owners and enthusiasts rather than just as prosecutors. But they have a terrible and bloody past to deal with.

Modern cartridges have been shipped loose across some of the roughest roads imaginable, and seen some of the worst package-handling. I have never heard of any cartridge ever going off except by a very sharp, hard blow on the primer or by the application of extreme heat. Force applied to the case has no effect except to mangle the case and eventually spill the powder. Put all the pressure you like on the case. You will NOT set it off.
  3. Here is the status of the Montana FFA lawsuit: Firearms Freedom Act Feds Respond to Firearms Freedom Act Lawsuit So far, TN, MT, WY, UT, and SD have all passed a Firearms Freedom Act. There are another 20 states that have introduced it in the legislature. If you think the Feds aren't taking this seriously, you are very mistaken!
  4. ALL members of the House of Representatives only rule, er, serve for a two year term. They are ALWAYS running for re-election.
  5. NASA has fudged it's data, The UN data is shown to be hopelessly wrong, and that's just the beginning. There never was a 'consensus'. Just a bunch of very vocal scientists trying to make sure that the hysteria continued so their grants would be renewed. More on John Coleman’s Special tonight – KUSI press release says NASA improperly manipulated data Watts Up With That? Michelle Malkin Hot news: NASA quietly fixes flawed temperature data; 1998 was NOT the warmest year in the millenium ClimateGate - NASA Satellites Loaded With False Global Warming Data - Criminal charges being pursued | NowPublic Video Archives And that's just the NASA data! Do a search for 'climategate' for information about the UN falsifying data.
  6. The Democrats do not see Cooper's seat as being 'at-risk'. I sure would love to prove them wrong!! Hartline seems to have good positions. I like that he is not a politician.
  7. Do you have a link or reference to this? I'm very interested in seeing what this is.
  8. When one state passes such legislation, it's usually just to get votes from a small section of voters. When several states pass it, it's a message to the Feds. So far, TN, Utah, and Montana have already passed their bills. Alaska, Wyoming, Texas, South Carolina, Minnesota, and Florida look likely to pass bills this year. Another 19 states have introduced the legislation, but passage chances are unknown. If that is NOT a message to the Feds, I don't know what is!? Lastly, Montana already has a court challenge in process. The Feds are trying very hard to get it dismissed based on the grounds of 'Federal Supremacy'. In other words, they are trying to ignore the 9th and 10th amendments.
  9. If you are having trouble with a USGI magazine (BRW S-1), then the problem is likely with your rifle. It's possible that you have a bad magazine latch or recoil spring guide that is causing the issue. Is there a dealer in your area for Springfield Armory? If so, ask them if they can help you. Also, check out the stickies at M-14 Firing Line Public Forum - Powered by vBulletin. There may be some help there. If not, ask for help there from the experts. Another option is to go to a High Power Rifle match and ask for help from the shooters there. Good luck!
  10. You do know that you insert the front of the mag first, then rock it back until it latches? If does not go in straight up like an AR15 or Ruger 10/22.
  11. You might look at the Beretta Neos. It has a built-in scope rail and is available with a 6" barrel. Ours has been very reliable with a wide variety of ammo. Magazines are cheap and easy to reload.
  12. The .45acp is not known for over-penetration. I would not worry about that with almost any .45acp load. As stated above, faster Hollow-point bullets have a better chance of expansion than slower ones. So, if your goal is terminal effect on the target, the 185gr JHP would be your best load. Make sure that your pistol can reliably feed this as many cannot. The Remington Golden Saber +P 185gr is going 1140fps at the muzzle from a 5" barrel. If your barrel is shorter, you'll lose a little velocity and gain some extra muzzle blast. None of the Golden Saber loadings have a reputation for over-penetration, and they are reliable defense cartridges.
  13. Springs are springs. If you have a Harbor Freight anywhere nearby, they sell a box with a huge assortment of small springs. I got one of those several years ago and it has been worth it's weight in gold! I would be willing to bet that there is a spring in the box that will match what you need. If not, find one the right coil rate and diameter and clip it a little longer than you think you need. Then try it out.
  14. If there was not a better candidate available, I MIGHT vote for him. His voting record demonstrates a mainstream Republican stance. I was not impressed. From the record he posted on his website, he is in favor of Federal meddling at all levels. He displays a lack of understanding of Constitutional restrictions on the Federal government. Fortunately, Ramsey is better on all issues.
  15. There were certainly cameras in use at the time. I'll see if I can dig up a copy of the video. It may get posted to the TFA site later.
  16. This was NOT a $300,000 house. An item is only worth what someone else is willing to pay. If nobody was willing to pay more than $170,000, then it was a $170,000 house. The common misconception is that you 'own' something on which you owe money. The only thing you 'own' is the liability. Only when the liens are paid off do you actually have the right to bulldoze it!
  17. I've got one with about 600rds through it. Never had an issue with the pistol, so have no experience with customer service. Well-made, sturdy pistol that has been very reliable so far. OEM mags are made by Mec-Gar and are excellent. Aftermarket mags are great practice as they have FTF issues from time to time. A nice advantage of this pistol is that you can change to .38Super, .45acp, or .22lr by getting a different top-end kit from EAA. I have .22 and .38Super kits which are great. Each caliber needs it's own mags, though. You can get OEM mags directly from EAA for $25ea.

It looks like they did a site overhaul, and haven't quite worked the bugs out.
  19. As a seller, you are obligated to only make sure that the buyer is a resident of TN, and that you don't know of any reason why they cannot legally buy a firearm. When I sell, I check the driver's license, and don't sell to anyone that I have a bad 'feeling' about.
  20. When we had 10,000+ in front of the Capitol in Nashville last April, the news tried everything they could to marginalize us. BUT THEY COVERED IT!!! And the footage they took made lies of their claims of 'just a few thousand', 'white extremists', etc. Now, the Tea Party is recognized as an effective political force. It is time for Gun Owners to be recognized in the same light. That will only happen if we stand together in public.
  21. The OP needs to get competent PROFESSIONAL assistance with this. In addition to the historical and family significance of this firearm, a legal MP-40 can be worth well over $10,000. An unregistered MP-40 is contraband unless: 1) It is in the National Firearms Registry. This can be proven by finding ANY proof of prior registration, or calling ATF and asking. 2) There is proof of prior legal ownership. If the serviceman brought it back from WWII, then he may have had paperwork permitting him to do this. This type of paperwork has been accepted as proof of prior legal ownership. Very few attorneys are competent to deal with the ATF on machine guns. This is the wrong place to ask. Go to Subguns.com and ask on the NFA forum.
  22. Aguila used to be the Remington trademark for ammo made in their Mexico plant. I understand that Aguila is now independent of Remington. But it is still made to Remington specs.
  23. Enfield headspace is easily adjusted by changing out the bolt head. The problem is going to be finding the proper bolt head for your rifle. Complicating the issue is that there are two basic models of Enfield. The #1 MKIII has the rear sight in front of the chamber, and the #4 has a peep sight at the rear of the receiver. The bolt head of #1 Enfields is not marked with the size. You just have to measure them. The #4 Enfields are marked with a small number from 0-4. If you have a #4, you just find the number and then buy a bolt head one size larger. Now the kicker; I do not know if the .308 Enfields use the same bolt heads as the very common parts for the .303 rifles. The real expert on these rifles is Brian Dick in SC. He can probably tell you pretty quickly what you will need, and is likely to actually have it. BDL LTD Rifles and Accessories

Of course, now that the Federal government owns GM, it's no wonder they are trying to do everything possible to sink their biggest competitor!
  25. Not true. I got 'alerted on' in Dayton, OH with the swab. I had cased my uncleaned guns that morning, and there was enough residue that a swab on my hands picked it up. I merely pointed to my cased firearms next to me waiting to be checked in, and that was it. BTW, Dayton, OH airport has the best TSA in the country. I used to travel a LOT, and they were always professional, courteous, and efficient. Atlanta, Chicago, and Detroit tie for worst.
