  1. Ate the shrimp and grits at Cracker Barrel in Harriman yesterday. Not as good as some of the restaurants mentioned but Cracker Barrel did a better with the dish than you would expect. I would get them again. Bubba Gump's in Gatlinburg also has shrimp and grits that are spicy but pretty good. The mention of Murrel's Inlet gets me hungary for oysters. Eaten many a steamer full of oysters at Nance's Restaurant. Wife almost has to sit at another table when she smells the oysters.
  2. Mark Scott has done transfers for me from all over the country for years with no problems what so ever. Nice guy and knowledgeable. Superposed
  3. Well Fugate's did not have to take an hour or more to get me a price on the two 649's (which they did not have in stock at the time) that I bought from them. Took 2-3 minute's to get me a price and asked up front if they could order the guns for me. Two other stores that I went to by being indifferent cost them the sale of over $1100 in sales.
  4. I have found Shooter's Depot to be a circus in their showroom. Was trying to buy two S&W Model 649's. Shooter's Depot was the first gun shop I went to. I asked if they had a 649, salesperson said no and had nothing else to say. Didn't offer to check on a price or say they could order the guns. I ended up buying two 649's from Fugate's for a price a couple of dollars cheaper than Bud's price (without even bringing up Bud's price). Fugate's wanted to quote me a cash price and said they would get them in as fast as they could it being the middle of the Christmas season. Fugate's lived up to their word.
  5. About any of them are better than the old local outdoor shows in Nashville. I grew up watching "Woods N' Waters with Bill Jay and Bill Clay. The one with Larry Munson (before he left for Georgia) was better but mostly showed fishing on Center Hill. "The American Sportsman" was the first decent outdoor show I can remember seeing.
  6. Wife and I each got new S&W 649's with holsters. Now the wife is a street legal (HCP) and gun toting grandmother. Superposed
  7. Call the Nashville National Cemetery or one of the local veteran's groups. Bet one or the other can get the flag folded properly. Superposed
  8. Who is everyone voting for in the Third Congressional District Race? I am going to vote for Independent Conservative Republican Savas Kyriakidis. Military veteran, pro second amendment, pro-life, small business owner, wants to do away with Obamacare, etc. Chuck Flieshman, the Republican primary winner, is a sorry excuse for a candidate. Lawyer, has been virtually invisible in personal appearances since the primary, wishy washy about the future of TVA and has a certain sneaky factor about him. Superposed
  9. Sundquist may have been a Republican but he was one of the biggest idoits ever elected governor in Tennessee. Sided with Jimmy Naifeh (Democrat; the biggest jerk in Tennessee state government) to try and force a state income tax on Tennessee. Only stopped by a lot of good citizens coming out in force to pressure their representatives to not do it. Sundquist could never do anything to slow the growth/rip-off of TennCare. It was in the news all the time. Bredesen sure is the not the perfect governor but at least TennCare isn't in the news all the time. Sundquist closed many state parks. I want to puke every time I see the sign to the Don Sundquist WMA and the Martha Sundquist State Natural Area. Our current junior Senator from Tennessee was one of Sundquist's commissioners. 10. Yes let's legitimize everyone carrying a handgun in public without a permit. Granny with her .25 auto her grandson had to load for her and show her where the safety is. Other people totally unfamiliar with the operation of handguns. And 99% of the people who could then legally carry a handgun would not understand the possible legal ramifications of discharging a firearm. The Handgun Carry Permit training is certainly not perfect but it is better than turning everyone loose with the right to carry a handgun with no training or understanding the responsibilities of owning/carrying a handgun. If someone is not responsible enough or willing to take the time to take the HCP course, do you want them out in public with a handgun? Have a handgun/other firearm in the home is one thing. Letting everyone carry a handgun OUT IN PUBLIC without some required training is foolish. Maybe we should do away with Hunter Education also? Why have it? If young people can have a shotgun/rifle legally for hunting they don't need any training. Then when they get to be 21 they can legally go get a handgun without proper training. My wife and I, both in our 60's, wanted to be able to carry a handgun when we think it is in our best interest safety wise. Took the HCP training course, jumped through the paperwork hoops and now have our permits. Why can't others wanting to legally carry a handgun do the same thing? Superposed
  11. Logans at Northgate Mall in Hixson also has terrible, overcooked steaks. Chef salads weren't bad. Service is hit or miss. Gave up eating there several years ago. Superposed
  12. Hunted the first 20 days of the season in southern Oklahoma. Hunted over milo, millet, corn and sunflowers. Killed a bunch of doves (gave them to the locals and fellow hunters who didn't limit). Had more rain than usual and the remnants of a tropical storm. Had to watch out for wild hogs (a hunter on another hunt 10 miles away lost three fingers fighting off a hog attack). Also one morning before daylight while setting up a mountain lion was spotted at the back end of the 200 acre field we were hunting in. Makes dove hunting interesting (not to mention the increase in snakes you see out west). Superposed
  13. Wife and I voted at 4:00 PM EDT today at our backwoods polling place out behind Soddy Daisy. A long line at our polling place is two people ahead of us. There was one campaign sign outside our polling place (one more than last time). Superposed
  14. Been hunting, going to gun shows and shootiing all types of firearms for 52 years all the while a resident of Tennessee or just across the border in Alabama (62 years old). Endowment member of the NRA and member of the old Tennessee Gun Collectors Association when it was up and going. Never ever heard of the Tennessee Firearms Association. I don't believe this endorsement will carry much weight with the average gun owner or citizen. Superposed
  15. Tennessee has a very poor record with former members of congress being governor. Remember Don Sunquist and Ray Blanton? Wamp is the classic "used car salesman". Wamp will say anything to be governor. Superposed
  16. I thought Ron Ramsey did a great job. But he doesn't stand a chance. Four days before the start of early voting and no ads on TV. Not enough people know who he is or anything about him. Superposed
  17. * Grandfather's Lieutenant's badge, billy club and revolver from the early 1900's for the Nashville Police Department. * 1940's wooden sliding top liquor box with all barreling/bottling/taxing information on the outside. * Odd-ball old wooden egg crates, milk crates, cheese press boxes (weigh about 30 + pounds empty), wooden ammo boxes (a neat .38 special box), wooden drink crates, etc. * Collection of "all-plastic" (no metal head) shotgun shells. * Went to Nova Scotia last year. Wife likes flower arranging. Was on a ferry from Digby, NS to St. John's New Brunswick. Bought her a large neat looking Bay of Fundy rock that had been made into a flower vase. It was like carrying around a bowling ball in a wal-mart bag until we got down to the car. * Old milk bottle collection. And more and more and more . . . . Superposed
  18. I know Ramsey is not supposed to have as much money as Haslam and Wamp but when is he going to come out of hiding in the mainstream media? Haslam and Wamp are covering up the airways with ads and nothing from Ramsey since his stupid "boot" ad (in the Chattanooga area). He may be the best thing going but his name recognition has to be zilch to most of the state. Superposed
  19. My grandfather and my great uncle both worked for the City of Nashville Police Department (way before Metro) in the early 1900's. Grandfather was a lieutenant in a department that had a captain as the police chief. I have his .38 S&W, nightstick and gold badge. Great uncle was a detective and was killed in an ambush out on Nolensville Road. I have his .32 S&W. All of my more modern pistols will go before I get rid of these two. If so, shotgun will have to do for home defense. Superposed
  20. OhShoot: I was referring to the Republican Primary. I will have to hold my nose, get a nasty look on my face and vote for Haslam or Wamp if they win the Republican Primary. Just don't care much for either one of them. Haslam is a rich boy whose daddy is trying to buy the governor's office and Wamp is a slick used car salesman with a Washington mentality who can't keep a promise. Still either is better than the Democratic alternative. I will vote for Ramsey in the Republican Primary. Superposed
  21. Won't vote for Haslam for many of the reasons previously listed. However I will also not vote for Wamp. He voted for TARP and it will cost us more than any price increases from Pilot Oil. He said initially when running for Congress he would only stay for 6 terms. He is in his 7th or 8th term. He said he would not take PAC money. He not only takes PAC money but set up a his own funds generator through the Tennessee Valley Corridor and its associated public relations company whose owner is described as the "gatekeeper" to Wamp. Incidentally, Wamp's son Weston works for the public relations company. Wamp is a real salesman. He talks about keeping Washington out of Tennessee in his "20/20 Vision" but he is the only one in the race who is intertwined with Washington as a congressman. In my voting lifetime two former congressman have been elected governor. One was Ray Blanton, one of the biggest crooks ever. The other was Don Sunquist who almost let TennCare break the taxpayers of Tennessee and tried to get an income tax for Tennessee. Do we want to take a chance on another former congressman? None of them are used to balancing a budget or holding spending in check. I will vote for Ron Ramsey. Superposed
  22. Do you have an algae problem or an aquatic weed problem? There are different treatments for the different problems. I would first check with TWRA if you want to use sterile grass carp or add any other fish to the pond to check on the laws/restrictions/legality. They may also be able to help you with any chemical treatment of algae or aquatic weeds. Just be aware that grass carp will clean out a pond completely of weed if overstocked. Superposed
  23. I did overhear one of the guys from Georgia Arms talking to another vendor at the show and saying that the mad rush for handgun ammo sure had slowed down since previous shows. They also had .380 Auto but it seemed a little high compared to some of the prices posted on this site. They had plenty of .44 Special, .38 Special, .357 Sig, etc. Glad to get the .38 Special but would really like to have gotten some .45 Long Colt. Superposed
  24. Yep. Had a senior moment when typing the original post. I thought the Georgia Arms price was pretty good. The funny thing was I bought the ammo at a gun show in Ft. Walton, Florida. I had to keep it hidden in the car as I figured the condo we were staying in would take a dim view of someone with 4 metal cans of ammo staying there if they found out. Got home with it just fine. And had a great vacation. Superposed
  25. What is the best price everyone is seeing for .38 Special plinking loads? Our local Wal-Marts have not had any such loads for the past several months. I did pick up 4 500-round ammo cans of .38 Special at the Ft. Walton, Florida gun show while on vacation from Georgia Arms @ $11.75 per 50 rounds including tax. Looking for future supplies of such rounds. Also looking for .45 Long Colt plinking loads (Georgia Arms did not have any at the show). Superposed
