  1.   They are good with kids up until the time they start putting the kids' heads in their mouths. Sixteen stitches on the forehead, six around the side.
  2. Just shoot what you have until you figure out what you need. A lot depends on who is putting on the match and what rule set they go by. Probably the easiest to start with would be a few single pistol mag carriers, an AR mag carrier, some way to tote some shotgun shells, and a tube extension for the shotgun. The shell carriers are the hardest, because there's a few viable methods for reloading and investing in one just to find out the other works better is not a good way to go. A forearm carrier is relatively cheap but slow, but it will get you started. Also, depending on where you shoot, you could likely get some loaners for a match or two to see what works for you before you spend the cash.
  3. I thought you hung up the vest. Is that a tactical binder?
  4. There's quite a few gun shops in the Tri-cities area, though I don't think there's many in Erwin. Too many to easily list. I tend to deal with Byrd's in Jonesborough or Mahoney's in JC. Tri-cities Gun Depot in Elizabethton is well-liked, I just haven't dealt with them much. There's also Brackins, Shooter's Edge, Widener's, Dick's, the Wal-marts, Blue Ridge, the Gun Rack, Gunrunners, et. al.  There's easily at least 10-15 in the area, if not more. The only one I really avoid is Monte's, but that's just me. I'm sure somebody's had a positive experience there, so you'll have to check it out for yourself. He is closer to Erwin than the others. Seems like there's a gun show every other month as well.
  5. Public range here has a sign saying that it is closed due to the shutdown. I shot anyway.
  6. All hail the Google. Hope this helps: http://appleseedshoot.blogspot.com/2008/03/six-steps-of-firing-shot.html   Do you have a free-floated barrel on your AR? If not, a sling for support will likely hurt more than help.
  7. Anyone around Johnson City have a spare taper pin for an AR FSB or happen to know someone locally who sells them? I'm in the middle of something and don't want to have to wait till next week for delivery.   Any help or info would be appreciated.
  8. Oh hell, Doodie's leached into TGO.
  9.   Probably relates to local ordinances prohibiting the sale of air rifles and slingshots. I know they can't sell them in JC. Don't know about Kpt., but they have 376xx zips too.
  10. Whaddaya know, they can't be shipped to my zip code. 376xx
  11. If I heard and understood correctly: Alexander- Aye, Corker- Aye
  12.   Yes, that's pretty much what it's set up for. I personally shoot Stock Service Pistol in both matches, but many people mix it up, shooting in a different division in each match.
  13. Around 100 rds. a match. TAC2 shoots a first and second gun, basically a morning and afternoon match. I usually take around 300 rds. but rarely shoot more than 100 a match. Sometimes stage round counts might run a little higher, or you might have to reshoot a stage or whatever, so it's better to have too much than not enough.
  14.   All you need is a serviceable pistol or revolver, a holster, and some magazines/speed loaders. Don't even need pouches, but I would suggest them.    When I first started, I knew no one who shot IDPA matches. I showed up with some basic gear, and the folks there made sure I knew what to do and was safe doing it.    Instead of spectating, bring your gear and shoot. It was quite some time before I started doing anything other than getting my hits, let alone being competitive. If you can draw without dropping the gun and can keep your finger off the trigger when it's not supposed to be there, you're ready to shoot a match. I've seen many new shooters, let alone new to IDPA, show up and shoot and have a good time.    Either way, if you know you're going to be there, let me know, and I'll make sure to catch up to you during the match. If you decide to shoot it, I'll squad with you so you're not flying solo.
  15. I'll be at TAC2 next month as well.   Have you shot any IDPA or similar competitions before?
  16. Forgot that I also know a few members at Unaka, including a couple of SO's there. Kettlefoot would also be a good choice.
  17. PM me about TAC2.
  18. It's not the prettiest place, but it's the best range in the area, especially if you want to do an kind of dynamic shooting. If you don't need to run and gun, you could look at Unaka Rod & Gun which would be closer to you. If you don't shoot very often, Sciota public range is good enough, just try to go at odd times so you'll be less likely to run into people there. There's a 3-gun match at TAC2 this weekend, you could drive down and check it out then if you're so inclined. Sorry about the hijack OP.
  19. Keep in mind that the only way to shoot at TAC2 is to be a member or with a member—and even then, members are restricted as to the number of times they can bring individual guests—or shoot in a match.
  20. TAC2 in Greeneville has categories for rimfire in Steel Challenge as well: http://tac2.net/index.php?template=steelchallengematch
  21. My dog got sprayed directly in the face, poor guy puked violently for about 30 minutes and scraped his nose raw trying to get the spray off. I ended up soaking him with a hell of a lot of tomato juice. It worked pretty well, but it still took a while before all of the smell went away, though it was really noticeable only when he would get wet. Took almost as long to get all of the tomato out of his thick double coat. They are the best dogs in the world until one bites your head and almost takes out your eye and you have to get 23 stitches.
  22. Four monthly matches in Greeneville, special matches at various times: http://tac2.net/
  23. There was a night match at TAC2 back in February. It's not a regularly scheduled thing, but it will likely happen again when the days get shorter.
  24. The articles states, "He was not charged in the videotaped incident [previously mentioned in the article]; in the most recent arrest from Monday, he is charged with misdemeanor obstructing the legal process." It seems that if he had committed any other offenses, he would have been charged with them.
  25. Registration starts at 9:00, shooting at 10:00.
