  1. You do make some good points and I respect your position, but I have to wonder how much worse off we would be if their were no NRA. The NRA does compromise too much, although they don't as much in recent times as they did in the past. The NRA does know how to play politics and sometimes you do have to compromise for the greater good. It could be that they see a big wave of sweeping legislation coming and they try to cut it off by "throwing them a bone". Lots of back room deals going on and sometimes you do have to give something to get something in this nasty corrupt world we call politics. If we can get out of all this with a bump stock ban and some sort of background check enhancements and no new AWB, I'm afraid that may be the best we can do in this political climate. In a perfect world, they would be against any gun legislation, and fight tooth and nail to expand our rights. I'm not trying to excuse them, but I'm a life member and still think that membership is a good cause.
  2. That's what they need to do, turn them in to our local sheriff. He gathers up all the confiscated and turned in firearms and every so often auctions them off. That would be funny, somebody turn in their gun to get it out of circulation, only to be re-sold back into circulation.
  3. I'll fight any of this nonsense tooth and nail, but at this point it looks like we are going to take some sort of hit. I just hope this is like the immigration deal were they can't get anything passed, or it's as minimal as possible. The worst part about any of this is it won't do a thing to stop these shootings.
  4. I notice the guy lives in NY, makes you wonder if the gun was even legal before he started hacking on it.
  5. If somebody can find Scott Pappalardo’s address, I’d like to give him a complementary membership to the NRA. He’s the idiot that saws up a AR on video. I’m going to try to donate money to the NRA every time one of these idiots does something stupid like this.
  6. TN just needs to let permit holders carry in schools. I don't know when these people will get it through their heads that these "gun free" zones don't work, all that does is issue a open invitation for a shooter to know that there will be little to no resistance. Most schools around here have 1 resource officer per school. There is no way 1 officer can protect a whole school. Either he will be the first one to take a bullet, or do like the FL shooter did, make sure the SRO is out of the area. Just the simple thought that the teachers and principles in any given school may be armed could very well cause somebody to think twice about trying to shoot the school up. These people are cowards for the most part, they go after schools partly because they are a soft target.
  7. For what it's worth, I was there today armed, OWB under a untucked shirt. No signs prohibiting carry, security presence but nobody said anything.
  8. I’m heading to the National Farm Machinery Show this weekend at the big convention center in Louisville. Does anybody know if it’s legal to carry at the convention center?
  9. Technically, if your firearm originates in the state of TN, and you never take it out of state, the feds have no authority over it. The fact is though, the states allow the feds to enforce their gun laws within the state. One of the main ways the Feds take power from the States is in the name of "interstate commerce". The feds claim (and I think has been upheld by the SCOTUS) that anything that crosses state lines is subject to the Interstate Commerce Clause. The other way they do it is by bribes, in the form of federal funds. The "bribes" even work their way down to the individual level. Feds pay states to do what they want, States pay counties and cities to do what they want, and even most individuals can get money from the Fed, State, and county or city level, as long as you do what they want you to do.
  10. I'm pretty sure you can backwoods camp at Cheatham WMA, but I don't think they allow fires and I don't think they allow camping when a hunting season is open on the WMA. I personally like Montgomery Bell Park, mainly because it joins my parent's land and I can be there in 5 minutes. You're not supposed to venture off the trails and only camp at the designated backwoods camping sites but when we were kids we hiked and camped all over the park.
  11. Very true. This is why I am against it and pray it doesn't pass. State's rights are all but gone already, I'm not ready to hand the feds more power over the states. Right now, TN HCP law has some bad things in it but it's not nearly bad as some states. After this national reciprocity gets ironed out, I could see our right to carry in TN greatly restricted over what we have now. While I don't open carry, I like the fact that if somebody happens to see my gun, I don't risk being charged.
  12. That has a lot of truth to it. The fact is, you could have a illegal machine gun in your truck, and if you otherwise behave, the chances of you getting caught are very low. You can have a AR pistol with Sig Brace and go places you shouldn’t and hang around people you shouldn’t, your chances of being charged with a firearm violation are higher than average. By far, the reason to be charged with some firearm violation, has way more to do with your behavior than it does the configuration of the firearm.
  13. I wouldn't store propane tanks indoors, it's actually illegal to store them indoors and transport them in enclosed vehicles. I wouldn't worry much in a well ventilated shed with no ignition source but wouldn't want one inside my house.
  14. Just don't use pot, even if your state allows it. As has already been stated, if you use pot you lie on your 4473. Now you may get away with occasional pot use if you buy it off the street, but if you have some sort of card giving you permission to use, that would be a paper trail I wouldn't want to deal with. Another thing you have to think about is if you are involved in a self defense shooting. They have you pee in a cup, you come up positive for pot, and you have legal troubles. Even though pot use is "legal" in certain places by local or state law, it can still cause you legal problems as mentioned above, get you in trouble in a vehicle accident, and get you in trouble with your employer. Did you know, in most places, if you get hurt at work, the first thing they will do is have you pee in a cup. The main reason they do this is not in the name of "safety", it to protect their liability and to let them out of paying workman's comp. If you have a serious accident at work, most places are hoping you fail the drug test, that way they can claim your drug use caused the accident and not a unsafe workplace.
  15. I wonder what the statistics are on any suppressed firearm being used in a crime? Only time I’ve ever saw a suppressed firearm used in a crime is when the movie gangsters use them on a hit.
  16. I just picked up a Blackhawk Serpa for my Glock 19. I wore it to Church last night OWB under a untucked shirt. Looking in the mirror before I left, it did print a little but not bad. If anybody noticed, nobody said anything.
  17. We had our “security meeting”. Liability was discussed and the final word was that they encouraged licensed members to carry but there would be no official armed security roles. We did work on some general security plans that are still being ironed out. one of the main things that anybody can do is meet and talk to visitors. We should be doing this anyway to be welcoming but it’s also a good way to find out people’s intentions. i won’t discuss any of our specific plans in a open forum but there are about 30 armed civilians at any given service. I jokenly told the Sheriff after the meeting “ if something does go down, I think we will be ok, as long as we can keep from shooting each other”. He laughed and agreed.
  18. That is why I’m going to be at the meeting and help any way they see fit. I don’t ask anybody at the congregation to protect me, but I will gladly stand up and protect people that can’t or won’t protect themselves. We are a close nit congregation, I consider everybody there family. I just think it is the responsibility of any able bodied man in the congregation, but if there are still able bodied men that won’t, I’ll do what I can to protect them too.
  19. True, most people these days are just worried about themselves and a oblivious to their surroundings. I also think me being left handed helps on my form of "concealment". While the OWB gun does print, most people that see the print don't associate with it being a gun because it's on the left side. Even though I'm left handed, it still looks weird to me when I see other people fire a gun, use a baseball bat, etc left handed.
  20. Our church is non-denominational. We have elders, deacons, and a preacher. The preacher is the only person on the church payroll. The church building and property is actually owned by the members of the church and managed by the elders. I guess the owner's legal agents would be the elders.
  21. What I've started doing recently is carrying a Glock 19 in a old bible leather bible case the wife had. Removed the bible and the gun with several spare mags will fit nicely. Only concern I have is it's not actually on my person so you have to be aware at all times to make sure it's not left unattended. For this reason, I've been leaving a empty chamber until I get more accustomed to this way of carry so if I forget and leave it in the seat when I go to the bathroom or something, a kid isn't likely to get ahold of it and shoot somebody. In the past, I haven't carried in church because no IWB or pocket holsters that I've tried fit me, so unless I start wearing a suit or at least a sports coat, my concealment options are limited. This is just a temporary way of carry until I come up with something better. Is a church considered private property or a public place? I don't know if I'm using the right terms but private property as in your home or a public place as in a restaurant? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you could get in hot water by carrying a loaded rifle into a restaurant, even if the restaurant owner was ok with it, but if a church was considered private like your home, you could have any legal firearm at your disposal (assuming the church leaders were ok with it).
  22. I've thought about that myself. I've never tried one but I think it would be fairly comfortable and have the firearm readily accessible. I'll probably pick one up and try it.
  23. That's interesting. Care to expand on that? Are you saying that if you are classified as security, the rules would be different when it comes to deadly force? As I mentioned, I'm sure the sheriff will be at the meeting, if not the keynote speaker. Maybe he has some insight on this. To be honest, outside of some of the most liberal places, I think it would be almost impossible to ever convict anybody for thwarting a church attacker, even if it wasn't "by the book". Look at the latest shooting in TX, the guy went in pursuit of the attacker and chased him down, a big no-no in all "self defense" laws that I know of. Looks like, and rightly so, the powers that be are willing to overlook that little infraction. I know most law enforcement agencies around here are all but encouraging people to take down these would be mass shooters by "whatever means possible". It seems the law may be giving average citizens some leadway when it comes to use of deadly force.
  24. I understand what everybody is saying, but I should be able to lay my firearms on display out on the front porch and nobody bother them. I guess I'm just trying to wrap my head around how I could be responsible because some lowlife thief breaks down my door and steals my guns. For what it's worth, most of my guns are stored securely in the safe, but I don't really like the idea of being held to some "secure firearm" standard.
  25. Personally, I won't sell a gun to somebody I don't know or have somebody I know vouch for without a HCP, especially somebody walking up to me at a gun show. I don't want that to be some sort of law though, that's just my personal stance so a gun used in a crime is less likely to come back on me.
