  1. I’ve never heard of a universal prohibition of carrying where drugs are. You sure about that? I thought the only prohibited places were government buildings and places properly posted.
  2. Went to Horizon Hospital today in Dickson to visit a friend. The entrance was posted “No unauthorized weapons allowed”. I don’t really know what that means, but I was armed, and figured that since I had a HCP, I was “authorized”. I’m not sure that was the original intent of the posting, but it appears I was legal, according to the law. What say TGO?
  3. Agreed, if a .380 is all you can carry, then carry it. It’s just a personal opinion that a .380 pocket pistol is borderline inadequate. Also, I don’t buy into the hype that a .380 won’t stop a bad guy, but a 9mm is much better, in just a little bit bigger size.
  4. That's what I thought also. I upgraded to life member a few years ago, thinking they would finally stop sending me stuff. Little did I know, they have different grades of life memberships. They still send me stuff, trying to get me to upgrade my life membership.
  5. If you did do it, and had it built where the sound wouldn't escape your property, nobody would ever know . I won't say where, but there used to be a gun store in Nashville, and they (I plead the 5th) would regularly shoot full-auto suppressed into a ravine beside the store. This was right beside a main road and a very busy place. The fact is, with all the city sounds, nobody ever noticed.
  6. I've gotten away from .380 "pocket pistols" all together. I tried to carry several ones, but I can't hit squat with them, and pocket carry is extremely uncomfortable to me. I don't know if it's the short barrel, hard to get a good grip on, crappy sights, just me, or a combination of all, but I question my ability to have good consistent shots at anything over a couple of yards. Add the fact that the .380 round is a little on the light side, I've retired the idea of .380 carry.
  7. I've tried a bunch of those compact .380s. I'm not going to say it's all the gun's fault, but I can't hit squat with any of them. I'm of the opinion that the .380 round works well enough at stopping a threat, but the size of the .380 compacts don't lend well to shooting well. The bigger .380s are a lot more accurate, but you might as well go with a 9mm at that point. You want to handle a sweet shooting gun, shoot a M&P EZ .380, but the problem is, it's as big as the 9mm shield. Upgraded to a M&P Shield in 9mm and couldn't be happier. I can shoot a fairly decent group at 30 yards. Nicest gun for it's size that I have shot, for me personally.
  8. I tend to agree with the suicide theory. If he had been shot by somebody else at the range, or had a AD and shot himself, the media would be all over it.
  9. A lot of it depends on where I'm going. I've started carrying my Glock 17 to church, because if I ever have to draw my gun in that setting, chances are the shots are going to be longer range and higher capacity will be in order. I think the single stacks can suffice, if you are just mainly trying to protect yourself and/or family in close proximity, but not in a church setting, where the shooting could very well start on the other side of the auditorium. Wearing summer attire and OWB, I have to say the 17 prints a fair amount. Nobody has noticed, except the people that already know I carry. I've had conversations with people about it that didn't know I was carrying until I pulled my shirt up and reviled the gun. Most people just don't pay that close attention to other people. About the only reason I worry about it at all is I don't want to scare the little old ladies or freak visitors out. Most all of the regular members at least have a good idea of who is carrying, and the church leadership knows. Now just out in general public, I usually swap to my single stack M&P 9mm, and work a lot harder at not printing. I still don't think people really pay attention though. I have a smartphone case on my other side that prints about as much as full size gun. I think one thing that helps me, even if I print a little, is that I'm left handed. It's like when people see something bulging out, they don't associate it with a gun, because to most people it's on the wrong side. Even with me being left handed, it looks weird to me when I see other people shoot left handed.
  10. That is some crazy stuff right there. You really never know out there, but we always try to find some background info on the boat and captain before we charter a trip. The worst I ever had was last year out of Orange Beach. Fishing was good, and the captain and mate were ok, but the boat was kind of a pile of junk and broke down out there. To add on top of that, it was a rough day with about 4' swell. Now I've been on some rough water before, and it's not too bad, if the captain can keep the boat heading into the waves. When you are out there broke down, and bobbing like a cork, it can get really rough when you loose power. After about a hour, they managed to get the boat fired up and we made it in.
  11. For what it's worth, I carried my Glock 19 along on the trip, in my bag. Don't ask, don't tell was the order of the day. It's my understanding that there is a difference in State and Federal waters. FL state waters extend 9 nautical miles from the shore, FL Fish and Wildlife patrol these waters, along with the CG. From what I've read, federal waters go out 200 nautical miles, this would cover a good portion of the gulf. Now I will add that this info is mostly pertaining to fishing rules and regulations, I don't know how many other laws follow these boundaries.
  12. I’ve been deep sea fishing several times, the first time I went I was unarmed and felt uneasy about it. We never go out far enough that I think we are resonably safe from Somali pirates, but a lot of stuff could happen out there, if you think about it. It would be pretty easy for somebody to rob you out there without some protection, and all they would have to do is throw you overboard, and drive off, and you are pretty much done for. I’m also sure it’s not unreasonable to assume you could cross paths with some drug traffic.
  13. I’m planning on taking a deep sea charter in a few weeks. I’ve been on these in the past and always carried my firearm. I didn’t advertise to the captain I was armed and nothing has ever came of it, but I’m wondering about the legalities of this. We will set sail out of FL, which I know I’m good to go with TN HCP, but what about on the water? We will be going into both state and federal waters.

    S&W .380 EZ

I've held one. It's a great gun for people that have trouble racking a slide or have trouble with recoil, I think that is who the gun is aimed at. Otherwise, it's a .380, the size of a 9mm. The gun fills a need, but not really appealing to most shooters. I went the .380 route one time, thinking I wanted a pocket pistol. Realized that I can't hit squat with one of those micro .380s, and not very pleasant to shoot. The M&P .380 should be a good shooter, just a little on the light side when it comes to caliber.
  15. Go into a bank you think is local and ask for a loan. If the person is physically there that can make the decision on the loan, there is a good chance they are local, or at least have local authority. It they tell you they will have to run it by the main office that is located in some other town or state, hit the road. I want a personal relationship with my banker, not just be some number in a big bank's database. The local bank I was at first was great, I could go right into the president's office if needed. When they got bought out by B of A, nobody at the local branch could make any decisions. When I finally got the truck loan fixed I mentioned above, I paid it off (to be done with them), I had to wait 3 weeks for the title, and had to send it back to the main office (taking another week) to get them to sign the lien release. They wouldn't even let anybody at the local branch sign the lien release
  16. Years ago, I was with a local bank that was bought out to B of A. Had a truck financed there. I was sending my payments in, but would get a statement every month not showing the credit. The lady at the local branch told me to not pay another dime until they got it straitened out, because it was just like throwing money away, if my payments weren't showing as a credit on my account. It got so bad they almost repoed the truck and I never was able to get it off my credit report (it finally just went away due to time). I got that straitened out, paid the truck off, made sure all the checks I had written was cleared, and walked in there one day and demanded all my money right there on the spot. From that moment on, I've have always dealt with a local bank only. That is getting harder to do with all the buyouts. There has even been rumors that the bank I'm with now was thinking of selling out. I've told my banker that the day that happens, I'm gone. I'll bury my money under a stump before I ever let B of A get ahold of any of it again.
  17. I will add this, from being around and asking a lot of questions to LE, if you are otherwise behaving, and have a clean record, the chances of you getting charged for carrying without a permit is relatively low.
  18. I ended up picking up a Shield yesterday. I held both and the Shield seemed to fit my hand better. I'm a Glock fan and really was leaning toward the Glock, but with the Shield having a better fit, and almost $100 cheaper, the G43 will have to wait. I carry OWB under a untucked shirt. I can hide a LCP .380 pretty well, even under a T-shirt. I know the Shield is bigger but I'm hoping I can still hide it decent. I ordered a Blackhawk CQC Serpa (my preferred carry holster) tonight, I'll have to wait until it gets in to try carrying it.
  19. My personal stance is that I at least have to know somebody that knows you, or see your HCP, before I'll sell somebody a firearm. I've sold a few guns at gun shows, all were either sold to people with tables at the show, or somebody just walking around, after I saw their HCP. This is just my personal stance, and in no way would I want it to become law. I would just hate for a firearm I sold to be used for foul play, and wouldn't want to deal with the legal ramifications that followed.
  20. About all the NRA President does is put a face on the organization and get people ginned up at rallies. Wayne LaPierre still calls the shots. There have been some big shoes to fill since Charleston Heston, none of them have been able to measure up to him since. I would have liked to see R Lee Ermey to have held the office before he passed.
  21. The use that same pic as your DL. The way I understand it, it just depends how long has passed since your last pic as to if you'll have to get a new pic or not. I renewed my HCP last fall. I was required to go to the Drivers Testing Station to get a new pic. I can't stand going to the Dickson Drivers Testing Station. There will be a room full of people waiting, 4 people behind the counter, with only one person actually doing anything.
  22. Talked to a Dickson Police Dept Detective last week, he said the current regulation is every officer carry a Glock 23 as their primary. He said this was due to if something big went down, officers could share mags. He said there was also talk of them going to 9mm, but nothing official yet.
  23. I was fooling with ARs before ARs were cool. Back when I got my first one, there were hardly any accessories, and what was available either came from Colt or military surplus. Nowadays, the sky is the limit with what you can do with one. I've got one setup for long range shooting, a 16" for just playing around, and one with a "fun switch" that is sporting a 11.5" barrel. I've also got a stripped lower sitting in the safe I'm thinking about turning into a pistol. If you are building one (the best way to get the most bang for your buck), just about all the lowers on the market are the same, besides the brand stamped on it. Spend your money on a upper and optics. I've heard all the horror stories from Vietnam, that was before my time, but I can tell you that I haven't seen any of those problems with the modern AR. If for no other reason, get one because it pisses the liberals off.
  24. Well I've been looking for a more compact carry gun. My Glock 19 is may standard winter carry gun and and general carry gun when I'm not trying too hard to conceal. In the past I'd carry various pocket .380s when I needed better concealment than the 19 offered, but these small .380s aren't doing it for me anymore. I'm just tired of fooling with them, and my accuracy is awful shooting them and any distance. I was pretty much set on picking up a G43, that was until a friend of mine let me shoot his Shield, now I'm torn between the two. I really like the way the shield felt in my hand and the way it shot. I've only held a G43 and haven't shot one but the Glock did fit my hand pretty well also. I've searched the web and have seen several comparisons between the two firearms already, and the conclusions of all I've read is there isn't a nickle's worth of difference between them. I just though I'd throw it out there and see what TGO had to say.
