  1. Actually they went from blah to great to ridulous to a little bit better but they still have the funky grips. Apparently there are two different Gen 3's. I did not know that until reading the descriptions of the models. The later Gen 3 is the one I like.
  2. I have seen this problem and wonder what options are available besides dedicated shooting glasses? With a carbine length gas system I have seen bifocal wearing shooters who can perform the fundamentals with a rifle shoot a snug group at any range that is extremely high. Red dot sights are no issue whatsoever. The shooter said the front sight is so blurry they cannot tell where it is unless craning their head backwards to look through the bifocal portion of their lenses. When conditions are such that the front sight blends in with the target or surroundings the problem is worse. Looking at a target that is set in an overcast situation is an excellent example. Even though attention is directed to the front sight it blends in so well with the target proper sight alignment cannot be attained. If they went to a midlength or rifle length gas system, or any other type of system that placed the front sight further away from the eye would this negate the problem sufficiently for them to regain their abilities with iron sights? Would anything make a difference? XS white strip sights with the tritium help to a degree but are not the final solution. Perhaps the big dot sights? Dedicated glasses are not an option since we are talking about using a rifle for purposes other than a square range situation. Thanks.
  3. With the 24 inch barrel and 38 Special ammo you can shoot with no near for hearing protection! A surpressed rifle! The 20 and 24 inchers I have shot shoot like a laser.
  4. 20 gauge is one to be considered in this package. You have a better trajectory and even the slugs won't beat you to death. These guns shoot like lasers with slugs. The 12 has the better choices in ammo and availability but I don't want to shoot it all day. Larry's in Huntsville, AL has the new Marlin NEF 12 gauges in various chokes for $89.00.
  5. I hope the lovely daughter in the pic on the mantel is not upstairs when the rifle fires b/c he has his finger on the trigger. I would suggest you cover the safety rules again and retake the pic.

    Advice on first AR

I have read of some having great luck with the following method from Bravo Company Manufacturing: Buy a complete upper with bolt group. Very simple to very extravagant can be had. You can legally have this shipped to your house. Buy a complete lower and have it shipped to your FFL. It will have to registered before you can take it home. The quality is first rate for this company. You will pay shipping on both items. Since ordering through the mail from a company outside of TN (assuming you are a TN resident) you will not pay taxes on the upper. This will save you some money. Below are links for the upper and lower section of the website. Upper Receiver Groups AR 15 BCM Lower Receiver Groups M4 AR15 Below is a simple, inexpensive upper that would build a great AR to learn on that will fill many needs until you can determine what you want exactly. The lower can be had for $270, the least exepensive upper for $610 with bolt group. Figuring another $30 for handgaurds and $50 for rear sight you are at less than $1,000 before shipping and taxes. BCM BFH 16" Mid Length Upper Receiver Group My buddy bought the below rifle from a local dealer and after rebates and sales he was into it for about $900 before the accessories like Eotech and rail. It is a Smith M&P and is shooting great even with milsurp ammo.
  7. Orange rail covers? Or perhaps blue since David is in Rutherford County?
  8. That second method and AMD are still working great for me.
  9. That's a nice rifle. The way you shoot makes my back hurt.
  10. I hope you SBR it and add a full length stock. That would be an awesome zombie rifle!
  11. Thanks for the replies everyone. My wife hates it but I just hate to throw these boots out. We have spent a lot of time in the woods together.
  12. I would love to see pics of your rifle and here about the specifics of loads and your hunt. Thanks.
  13. I have a pair of GA boots that have been great. I have gotten about 8 years out of the original soles. Naturally I was not wearing these on a regular basis but everytime I did I was on my feet on the ground. The shoes themselves are still in good shape although the strings are long gone. I need to resole them and the company has no repair facilities according to the woman I spoke with last week. Can anyone recommend a resoler in Middle TN that will do a good job and restore these to original specs? Thanks.
  14. As someone who grew up during the arcade age playing this game I am bound by honor to watch the first one again and then watch this one no matter how bad it is. I can't wait.
  15. That stuff shoots like a laser. Just use a lot of generic Windex with ammonia or hot and soapy water, or both and keep it lubed up. The corrosive ammo issues is not an issue as long as you maintain your weapons in a certain manner.
  16. Aren't the Barongs going away now as well? I like the handle and balance on these, and for the price you can keep one in your truck.

    Idiot Scratch

...just one more reason to further support the firearms and knife industry by buying at least two of everything. Then you have a beater and a safe queen.
  18. I have shot several different P220's in 45 ACP over the years. They are all very accurate and reliable. The downside is the finish found on most. You need to keep some oil on them, even the "stainless finish" slide. I am sure the stainless model is different but it weighs a great deal more than the AL frame models.
  19. I met a young lady at the Busse booth at Blade who was showing off her knife made at this event. It was VERY nice work and she was rightly very proud. The knife industry's legacy continues with yet another young person not running around with their pants down around their knees, not on dope, and doing something productive! Outstanding work to everyone that puts this together!
  20. I have never owned a Blackjack but agree that the looks of the knife are on par with the Randall. Of course you are getting the name with the Randall. That knife will only increase in value whereas the Blackjack is just a used knife. Where are all the pics of these Randalls everyone owns?
  21. That is definitely it. There was a lot more trash at the range when we were there so it is looking good now. Great work to whoever cleaned it up. There are pull off camping sites BEFORE the range, but none past. We actually campled PAST the range at a picnic area and I was cited for camping in a noncamping area. :D The ranger hung out at the range all day while we were shooting and was a pretty nice guy. He let us stay overnight at the campsite since we were already set up and the cite was more of a warning. I strongly recommend the range if you have the chance to go. Beautiful place with shelter and campsites. Glad to see it is still there. Just be sure and camp in designated sites only.
  22. Would love to hear more about your gear and what is working/not working for you. HOpe all goes well.
