  1. A specific press runs about 120 bucks a universal runs a lil over 400 last time I checked. So if you must have it resighted I suggest taking it to a gunsmith or a gun shop that installs sights.
  2. I bought my XD for several reasons over the Glock the grip angle. The XD guns have the same grip angle albeit different feel than that of a 1911. Same reason I bought my Ruger MKIII in the 22/45 frame vs the standard luger style . So eventually when I graduate to My future 1911 . It will feel more natural for me. As for 9mm cost and availability helped with that decision. I love my XD it shoots great very reliable and quite accurate as well .( I have shot and absolutely loved shooting the Glocks I have had the opportunity to shoot ) And on top of all that I don't have to feel like a conforming drinker . (flame me all ya want its a lil chilly in the living room any way ).
  3. I found the same problem with my XD-9 and then found it was me not the gun. listen to RangeMstr that was the exact thing I was doing .
  4. I agree with the limp wristing also. Something to consider ? the Federal Champion ammo is not as potent as others while at the range yesterday I noticed significant less recoil between the Federal ammo Vs. the Seller & Bellot that I have been using. I had no issues with the ammo at all though( fired 100 rds) so his Limp wristing problem may have just reared its ugly head using this ammo .
  5. Not to dispute much of what you had said but I thought id point out some first hand knowledge. My stepfather purchased a Springfield 1911 in the early to mid 60's for $17.99 from the NRA and now kicks himself in the pants because he sold it for 50 bucks back in the late 70's (Now worth about 20 Grand as a collector piece) I know 18 bucks back then was worth a lot more than it is today but I still find that a relatively low price . I think as you also said it was more the complicated/reliability issue .As with any Semi-auto the gun will only be reliable if its maintained properly. Revolvers are more resilient and require less attention to function reliably . I'm not saying that Semi-autos are unreliable but I've never seen a revolver stove pipe or have a failure to feed because the operator didn't maintain it properly . Why so expensive today? 1)Demand 2) since the patents expired everyone is free to make their own 1911 with all the variants and custom parts and its been a game of one-upmanship ever since. Scenario: Company A makes a decent 1911 then company B makes one a little better and charges a Little more. Company C improves on that design and charges more as well. Then customers start demanding more then company A improves its fit and finish to compete then the cycle starts over again constantly driving the price upward as long as the demand remains steady.
  6. I might just make the match next month if I'm in town (i drive a truck ) even if its just to watch. I really need to get another mag if I'm to compete I only have two. I was planning on it Saturday , but my wife and I had a day sans children. She already is getting jealous of my shooting habit or rather the time I spend indulging it . So we hung out together instead .
  7. First off thanks for the warm welcome !! Yeah Jon I have four in the arsenal. Marlin model 60SB .22lr Mosseberg 535 ATS turkey/deer combo 12ga 3.5" mag Ruger MkIII 22/45 target model .22lr Springfield XD-9 4" service/compact .9mm
  8. Mossberg makes a pretty good lil .22 with synthetic stocks around $120 at wally world. My older Brother bought both of his girls one for X-Mas and mounted a scope on each and they love theirs . The Rifle my kids have been training on Is a Marlin model 60SB great gun never had a problem with it after 5k+ rounds it rarely has a FTE or jam only when it is very dirty .It does not seem to like Winchester's bobcat ammo .I shoot only Remington and federals out of it now no problems. We usually go through about 200+ rounds with it in an afternoon at the range so it has been a very reliable and fun training rifle .Not to mention its still my primary squirell gun.
  9. My next handgun purchase is more than likely going to be a snubbie .38 or a 6" barreled revolver in .357 I haven't decided on brand yet on either. I need to handle a few others before final judgment can be made. If I had the extra funds this weekend it would have been a Walther p22 (sportsman's whse had a great deal on it $274.00) .
  10. First of all thanks for the replies y'all got me started looking in the right direction . It appears the man I purchased this gun from was a tinkerer .I am just glad that he did not do any damage to the gun . First off he shaved the follower the only reason I can see for this was to increase the round capacity in the magazine by one I guess for him 10 was not enough It now will hold 11 instead of 10. Secondly the reason the gun would not lock back was that when he reassembled the magazines he put the follower button on the wrong side and it was not making contact with the slide lock lever if its called that.
  11. If memory serves me correctly the Judge was never marketed as a CCW .It was specifically designed for defense in a car jacking type situation 3-5 feet where it does the most damage. it places most of the "bird shot" in a torso sized target at its best velocity (close proximity to the muzzle) .I would never carry such a weapon as my CCW you never know at what range your assailant might be and I don't think the BG in question will pause while you change the ammo in the cylinder from .410 to .45lc and to be honest I dont want to have to wait until the BG gets into effective range . So ill stick with JHP in my personal defense weapon. or 00 buck in the 12ga.
  12. Funniest Darn thing I've heard in a long while !!!!!!!
  13. Thanks for the come backs .Yes the slide will lock back if you manually push up the slide lock switch on the side but will not lock by itself . I'm on the road right now so I will have to wait until I get home tomorrow night to fiddle with it .
  14. My Ruger MKIII 22/45 I purchased this gun used .I have put around 500 rounds through it without a single hiccup shoots great. My Dad also owns a MkII and I noticed the other day at the range that his slide would remain locked back after the last round was fired .Mine DOES NOT .After downloading the Ruger manual for the gun today and reading it fully (something I should have done the day I bought it ) I realized that the slide is supposed to be locking back after the last round is fired .Does any one have any answers as to why this malfunction is taking place .I plan on completley dissasembling it when I get back home this weekend and inspecting all the internals for excessive wear or damages . I know the previous owner and he said he did dissasemble it once. is there something he could have damaged/installed incorrectly while reassembling the gun that could cause this . any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated .
  15. That does suck. Mine(4" 9mm)has never had a FTF or FTE .Of course I have only had it three months now but 600 rds so far three different brands no problems at all. Keep us updated on the customer service issue if you decide to get it worked on again
