  1. Even though I am ticked out off at conservative talk radio because of the trashing they did of Dole for telling them to lighten up, I did read a good point that Rush made. He said that the Democrat vote is split along the lines of race and sex while the Republicans are split on ideology. So which party does that tell you is using actual intelligence and which is a popularity contest. Something interesting that I read in the Wall Street Journal is that in an independent poll showed that 25% of Osama Obama supporters do not think he is qualified to be president. So my question is why the f*(& are you voting for him!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. I would say, don't bring a taser to a gun fight. Anyone making an agressive move towards me with a taser that is not law enforcement is doing so to cause harm. I do not know about you guys but I do not believe someone coming at me with a taser is coming to ask me to join them at starcrack for a cup of coffee. As for the courts, the liberals are all already saying that a taser causes bodily harm. So if nothing else, you can claim liberal brainwashing in court.
  3. Speaking of Hillary and the election, I saw a great message on a sign board close to the airport off of 40 a couple weeks ago that said "Vote for Monica Lewinsky's ex-boyfriend's wife". Which brings to mind what Larry the Cable Guy said .. I don't know why everyone gives Cheney so much crap for shooting his buddy in the face. He shot his buddy in the face, how much sorrier can he be. I didn't hear everyone up in arms when Clinton shot his intern in the face.
  4. You do have to say one thing for the guy though....He was the first govenor in history to get a concealed carry permit.
  5. Congrats on the test. I am actually working on my MCSD. As for Vista, I have 2 PCs that I use for development and they are both on XP, but my laptop that is more for general business use is on Vista Ultimate. I like Vista, Microsoft just has some issues they need to work out around their high end development tools and Vista. As for the Mac, other than they suck, I can not bring myself to support Al Gore by purchasing a product from a company that has him on the Board of Directors. You know a company has to have something seriously wrong with them to have him as one of their leaders. Of course, I guess I should give him the credit he is due for inventing the internet and global warming. Just want to plug in that Linux sucks to. Also, for anyone exploring the world of AJAX, do not try to use any of the open source AJAX crap coming out of Microsoft. Buggy, buggy, buggy. Another reason I am not big on open source is because you get everyone elses bugs.
  6. LOL, I was not expecting to start the debate early. That is supposed to be next week, that is if Hillary can get over being accused of pimping her daughter out. If I can get to where I am shooting an 8" group at 800 yards, I will be really happy. That is good enough to take down a deer at 600-800 yards away.
  7. Unfortunately my sister is getting married on the 24th and has me freakin tied up all day saturday and sunday. Owl gun would have been fun since i live 5 miles from it and I am a member there, but oh well. There is always next month. I just can not wait to see the ETS setup at the Pope show on the 16th. I hear those guys are pretty cool and might even cut you a good deal here and there.
  8. Thank you very much marswolf and I might very well take you up on that and I have been looking really hard at the rem 700s. I have seen "claims" on the ar15 site of people saying that a dpms 308 is effective at 800 yards + and I have seen reviews where people are saying that it is just as accurate at long distances as bolt action rifles. Is that a bunch of BS (black smoke) or is their actually validity to that claim?
  9. Thanks ReefBlue for the article. I guess I also come back to my buying question as to where is a gun show usually the best place to pick these pieces up and gun. What would really be difference between say the Remington 700 vs. Weatherby Vanguard vs. this very nice Savage 110?
  10. 1. I actually do have land outside of Clarksville that I hunt where I can see 800+ yards and would like to achieve tha skill of being able to shoot that far. 2. I know the gun does not make the shot, but the shooter using the gun. I am looking for a good gun that is capable of achieving my goal and then practice and practice with it. I am sure as hell not going to be Joe Sniper. 3. I am not one for "conventional" wisdom, but more realistic. I am really only looking for a scope achieve my goal. 4. I am planning on shooting it a good bit to be able to be decently accurate at a distance. What is the effective range of the 308. How much more does a 300 or 7mm mag have over it.
  11. I am wanting to get a sniper style percision rifle and setup and was wanting to reach out to the wisdom on here for some advice. I am wanting a setup that can shoot long distance, preferably better than 500 yards. I had originally thought about getting a 308 ar style, but from what I have been told a bolt action is better. Then comes the caliber question. I would lovet o get a barrett 50 cal, but so not have a spare 6 grand laying around. From what I have been told the caliber to go with is .300 or 7mm. I have found a weatherby vanguard on sale in 7mm Mag with a 24 inch barrel for 360 NIB, which seems like a pretty good deal. So the questions I have around that are is that the rifle I want for what I am trying to achieve or it is not that good of a rifle and should I go with a Rem 700 and is that a good deal or do you think I could find a better deal at the gun show next week in Williamson County? The last question I have is around a scope. I know that I need to spend a good bit of money on a very good scope, so I was wondering if anyone here had any recommendations around that. Thanks for reading my overly long post (if you have made it this far) and thanks in advance for any words of wisdom that are passed along.
  12. I like Eastside and then Franklin. I am actually from Clarksville and still go up there regularly. I bought a 1911 from TN Gun Country last month. Really nice people and I would buy from them again in a heartbeat.
  13. I have a question. Can someone tell me why people like Rush and other conservatives were backing Romney? He used to be for killing babies. He signed the assault weapons ban in Mass into law. He said we should ban "anything dangerous to our law enforcement" (which i guess he is going to take my bowie knife as well). But he is an NRA member. Which he joined in late 2006 when he decided to run for president? But they hate McCain who did vote to stop partial birth abortion and did vote against the assault weapons ban. I may just be an ignorant tennessee boy, but that sh!! does not make sense to me and I would love to be enlightened because I am done with conservative radio. Especially when they started dogging Dole who I have the utmost respect for. Personally I wanted Thompson with my second choice being Huckabee.
  14. I am dying to get an AR calibered in 308, if anyone know where i can get one with a 24" barrel that would be great. I already bought a 1911 this year. Plus I am thinking about getting a new bolt action rifle, plus a sniper style scope for the ar.
  15. I am a member as well and this is really sad to hear. Especially since they were in the middle of making more improvements.
  16. Thank you for the clarification cem. There is no manual lever "safety". The safe use of a firearm by an intelligent (or at least half way intelligent) operator is always the most important safety.
  17. I was just messing with the glock people. I have nothing against a glock at all. It just seems that the majority of stories about somebody doing something stupid, it usualy happens with a glock. But like you said, that is stupid operator, not stupid gun. If I did not have kids and a paranoid wife I would probably own a glock. Even though she has a permit she is always super nervous with having a gun around the house that has no safety whatsoever and such a light trigger pull. And the thing that did her in on glocks was the story in Nashville several years ago where a cop laid his glock on the table and his little kid picked it up and shot him with it by accident. All that being said. This is still one of my favorite videos: http://www.limestonemedia.com/funny-video/video/cops_and_guns1.mov I still love my XD as well as my 1911 and steyr. But not near as much as my AR-15.
  18. I actually carry an XD subcompact 40 and I have to say that out of all of my guns that my XD is the one that is the hardest to mistake loaded and have an accident like this one with. Not only do you have to be holding the gun there are two inidicators on the gun which show if there is one in the chamber, which is one of the features i really like about the gun.....needless to say, any firearm can kill you or take a nice chunk out of you and should always be handled as if it could fire at any time (especially if it is a glock, because it probably will).
  19. I have an mtac for my XD Sub and love it. It is very comfortable. The only problem right now is having to buy pants that are a little bigger because I have had a 32" waist for 12 years and none of my pants really had any extra room.
  20. I have the opportunity to pick up a Grach in very good condition, but do not know anything about them except what little there is on Russian gun sites. I have not seen anything to tell me what they are worth how have seen anyone say that they have used them and liked or disliked them. The only things that I really saw in forums was people saying that would like to their hands on one. So...if anyone has had any experience or knows much about them, any comments would be much appreciated.

    .40S&W vs .45ACP

I carry a .40 and the reasoning was that I wanted an XD and i wanted a Sub-Compact and since the Sub-Compact only came in 9 or 40, i went with 40. With that being said I just bought a 45 1911 which I am dying to get out on the range and shoot tomorrow. Another 2 cents on the carry, I have been very happy with my XD SC and it really surprised me as to how accurate it is with having only a 3" barrel.
  22. Does anyone know of any shop in Nashville that would carry some 1911 a2 grips? I have found a couple online, but would like to find some local so i can try them out. Thanks
  23. The 1911 was not really intended to be a Concealed carry gun. I actually have an XD 40 Sub and kel-tec 380. I am mainly planning on using it for range and to carry when hiking or hunting.
  24. I bought a Rock Island 1911 a2 double stack .45 the other day. The double stack was recommended to me, but I am not completely sure about it and was hoping for some advice from the wise 1911 brethern on here. The gun is pretty big as far as the grip, I do not have any experience in 1911s so i am not sure how much difference there is between the single and double as far as that goes. Also, I really do not like the look of the grips on it and I have been having trouble finding any grips to fit it, everything out there seems to only be for single stack. So....I was hoping to get some feedback on the gun itself to help me decide if I should keep it or try to trade it. I have yet to fire the gun. Thanks in advance.
  25. I would strongly suggest calling the department of safety handgun permit division to check on the status. I just got mine a couple weeks ago. After waiting for 80 days I called them and they said "Oh the computer did not issue it so we will issue it today and you will receive it in 7-14 days (which I got it in 10)" I asked i it would have ever issued if I had not called and she said probably not. So, I believe it is worth the call.
