Of course this is all moot now, but I too at first thought this wasn't a good thing...but it's not as bad as others. All it was saying that if a state issues a carry permit, they must recognize another state's carry permit. It specifically said that it would not effect how permits are issued or any other elements of permits or laws within a state. I admit other attempts seemed to be opening the door to federal standards of handgun carry, but it seems this one was specifically trying not to do that. Now the news is making it sound like a state permit is not good outside of the state is issued. I think most LEOs in other states know better, I doubt many of the sheeple do. As far as The Violence Policy Center report... been arguing with too many local idiots about park and restaurant carry.....nothing left for these fools...

Actually you'd think you'd be happy to make it to the next one each time. j/k

Now that long gun carry is legal...

When I was young my Grandfather lived in Hot Springs, AR. We used to go there fairly often....I remember how surprised I was to find they closed school the first day of deer seasons. Made a lot of classmates that hunted jealous... -
Interesting. It does seem to simply be saying if State X issues permits, then they should honor any other state's permit. Wonder how many states this would effect? I mean TN and several other states already honor all other states permits or a couple that don't even require permits.

To be honest, I'm not sure.

The link doesn't work, for some reason I have never been able to directly link to page on THOMAS. What you posted are the findings of Congress, but what does the actual proposed legislation say? Or what is the bill/amendment number?

Nashville to vote on allowing guns in parks @ night.

All well and good....if the law allows it... -
That is the way I read it. It seems to be saying that a permit does not automatically allow you to carry in those 17 places, but at the same time it doesn't say you can't. Simply that any of those places can deny you entry or ask you to leave. I'm assuming that the places where it say it is not a criminal offense for the handgun to be in the vehicle in the parking lot, means that not even those places could they not let you keep one in your car. From what I can see from looking directly at MO laws on the states website, the only way you can get in trouble is if you refuse to leave and a LEO is called. Then it is only a $100 fine for a first offense. Section 571-107 Endorsement does not authorize conceale

Below info from here on Handgunlaw.us 571.107 Endorsement does not authorize concealed firearms, where: (1) Any Police, Sheriff, or Highway Patrol Office or Station, (2) Within twenty-five feet of any Polling Place on any Election Day. (3) Any Correctional Facility. (4) Any Courthouse or Building used by a Court. (5) Any Government Meeting including State Legislature. (6) Government Owned Buildings except Public Housing. (7) Bars. (8) Secured parts of Airports. (9) Prohibited by Federal Law; (10) All Schools (Including Colleges); (11) Child Care Facilities. (12) Casino (13) Amusement Park. (14) Any Church (15) Private Property with 11X14 sign with one inch letters. (16) Arenas and Stadiums seating over 5,000. (17) Publicly accessible Hospitals. Possession of a firearm in a vehicle on the premises shall not be a criminal offense so long as the firearm is not removed from the vehicle or brandished while the vehicle is on the premises; is applicable to Items 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 above. Carrying of a concealed firearm in a location specified in subdivisions 1) to (17) of subsection 20 of this section by any individual who holds concealed carry endorsement issued pursuant to this section shall not be a criminal act but may subject the person to denial to the premises or removal from the premises. 571.107. 1. (15) Any private property whose owner has posted the premises as being off-limits to concealed firearms by means of one or more signs displayed in a conspicuous place of a minimum size of eleven inches by fourteen inches with the writing thereon in letters of not less than one inch. Open carry is legal by state law, but local governments can regulate open carry. So you would need to know the law of the city or county you are in. It does say OC or CC is legal in vehicle with a permit. From OpenCarry.org - State Information For Missouri

Now that long gun carry is legal...
Fallguy replied to analog_kidd's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
While I just bought my first long gun a bit ago and may enjoy the benefits of this new law....I am curious how it came about. ...and why it applies to just those with a Handgun Carry Permit. I mean are HCP holders the only ones that hunt, go to the firing range or have other lawful reasons to transport long guns and ammunition at the same time? I guess one reason may be the requirements to get an HCP, some citizens don't meet those requirements and I guess it keeps those from "cruising" with a shotgun. Well, let me rephrase it may or may not keep them from cruising with one, but it gives LEOs something to charge them with even if there is nothing else illegal. Of course it is my understanding that many other states do not have any Prohibitions on loaded long guns in vehicles, as far as that goes, several states allow you to have a handgun in your vehicle without any permit, just like in your house. Don't recall hearing of disproportionate illegal use of those weapons as compared to any place else. But I admit simply allowing anyone to have a loaded long gun in their vehicle wouldn't fly. Someone in another thread warned about wanting too much too soon. How some rights have been lost a little at time, so as to go almost unnoticed. They suggest that getting them back slowly, so as to possibly not raise red flags might be the way to go. Can't say that I totally disagree. Anyway...sorry for getting a bit long winded and slightly off topic -
I have wrote other journalist in other places about stories they did and always received a much better response than that.

Nashville to vote on allowing guns in parks @ night.
Fallguy replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I don't think the law allows for such compromises. Now a city doesn't have to allow or ban carry in every park under it's control, but either way on an individual park it has to be the whole park. Also there's nothing in the law to allow "restrictions" such as not during daylight hours. I mean the law has made it legal (as of Sept 1) to carry in local parks. It says a local government can vote to ban carry, it doesn't say they can limit carry. -
You're right there is no written reciprocity agreement between AL and TN, but TN also recognizes AL permits....TN recognizes ALL other state permits. Of course I think VT and AK have it right in that no permit should be required, period, to carry.

Let's not turn this into another stickers or not stickers on your vehicle thread. There are more than enough on here already.
