California Governor Signs Marijuana Decriminalization Bill
Red9MM replied to Il Duce's topic in General Chat
Hi guys, Wow. I've read thru most of these posts not all, but I've been provoked to throw my 2 cents in. First of all a bill for the "decriminaliztion" of simple marijuana (MJ) possesion is what was signed in CA. Not a Legalization bill. MJ IS A DRUG and because it contains an intoxicating chemical, THC, which affects and modifes your ability to make sound judgemnts, impairs motors skills and modifies normal behavior patterns access to it must be controlled. So far the methods applied to control access to it have miserably failed for the most part. Making posession of small amounts a jailable offense is ridiculous. While its still illegal to posess that small amount, and until a sensible enforceable fair and responsible solution is in place, we should continue to develop and enforce fair laws that fit the crime and are not a tyrrany to people, but still protects citizens. Let me start here: On REDUCING the penalty for simple possesion < 1oz/28gm of MJ for PERSONAL use. I say yes. Use a Hefty fine. I think $100 is not enough especially in CA. $250 would sound fair to me. Make it a ticket/citation civil class of offense/charge. No court appearance if you pay and choose not to contest the charge, 1st - 2nd offenses only. Appear before a judge/majistrate for civil hearing on 3rd offense or after. Escalating scale of penalty 2d, 3rd, etc... offense greater fines penalty. 1-2 offenses : $250 + "administrative costs" + 20 hrs Mandatory Community Service on 2nd offense. 3rd ,, : $750 + drug/drunk driver school, posting of offense to credit reporting agencies for 3yrs., manadatory 50 hr. Community Service. 4th - 5th ,, : $1500 + loss of state issued privileges as a habitual offender i.e "not in good standing with the court and community", loss of HCP, Hunting, Fishing license, etc... for 5yr. (how many of the people here would want to trade those for a few puffs of pot?) possible loss of state benefits, unemployment pymts., etc... (not housing, foodstamps, or tenncare) Notice I didn't put in any Jail time for Simple Posession of MJ for Personal ONLY. If caught in posession of MJ in a POV vehicle add penalties to include points against/ supension/ revocation of Drivers License. Severly stiffen those if person is caught in posession of MJ in a commercial /company / govt. vehicle since use of those vehicles implies business or commerce and hence the posession for PERSONAL use does not apply. Same applies to posession in the workplace or Public buildings or property because they are not your personal areas and violate public safety. If in posession of during other crime, DUI, criminal tresspassing, shoplifting, burgulary, assault, etc... standard penalties used today can apply to the posession charges. Make Simple MJ posession penalties equivalent too alcohol or other drug impairment offenses. i.e simple posession for personal use on the same level as open container, public intoxication, public drunkeness, type of penalties. Notice I didn't say you have to "be stoned" to suffer the same penalty. If an open container fine is say $250, caught having a baggie of 6 joints of weed, same same. If fine for PD is $300, busted with a bowlful on the bong is $300. Again I'm saying a simple posession charge alone. If the person is intoxicated or under the influence then those charges are in addendum the simple posession charge. Make it like speeding tickets, You get ticketed for driving 48mph in a 35mph zone because you violated an ordinance defining the limits for safe driving. Not because you are in posession of (and operating) a car capable of violating the ordinance. but because you made a stupid choice while driving and got caught doing so. You don't go to county lockup for 11mos. 29 days for that speeding ticket do you? Drinking a beer, wine or whiskey is not illegal in most (but not all) jurisdictions providing you meet the requirements for purchase and posession and consume the product responsibily. RESPONSIBLY, meaning there are boundaries established by society and your community and limits enforced by laws. Because of the effects of the Drug Alcohol in said products. Violate these and suffer the consequences for your irresponsible actions. It's the same with firearms. Use a gun irresponsibly, violate the laws pertaining to the use of firearms and suffer the consequences. I believe everyone here supports the responsible purchase, posession and use of firearms. That makes us law abiding, safe operating, shooting/hunting enthusiasts who choose to do it right. Do it wrong and you may become a criminal. On the arguments about legalizing MJ for General public consumption and taxing its production and distibution as is done with Alcohol. I think that ship has sailed long ago. On bringing it back into port to inventory, regulate, and control its voyage and destination... Yeah, good luck with that. What's the best answer to fix this ? Damned if I know. Here is what I KNOW. MJ is a drug. People abuse drugs because they they want to change the way they "feel" about their life situation what ever that might be. They want to get happy, or just relax, or take the edge off this stress, to send a big FU to "the MAN" or "the WOMAN" who is keeping them down and pissing them off, the list of reasons and excuses vary from one person to the next and is endless. I know this too well, I'm a recovering substance abuser who's been clean and sober since 87. Me: "Hi, my screen name is Red9MM and I choose to shoot targets today instead of drink or use." TGO: "Hi Red!" Drug access MUST be controlled by a reponsible society. Failure to do so leads to rampant abuse by people who willingy choose to reject their responsibilities to themselves and others and naively expect the problems they create to be tolerated and overlooked and subsidized by others. The effects on society are stresses on Law enforcment, courts, jails, health care resources, poor productivity in the workforce, apathetic economic contribution, stress on the family and community trying to cope with people who demand to "just be left alone" yet are constantly requiring the help they angily reject. Once again I've posted excessively. I apologize for this to all. But I guess you've surmised by now that "I've got words in my head so I say them". Cheers -
The Kerbela Shriners "Kerbela Temple" is on a hill overlooking Baptist/Mercy Hospital in South Knoxville. The temple building faces downtown and you can see it when crossing the Gay Steet Bridge if you're going south towards hospital. But use Henley St Bridge/Chapman Hwy. to get to it. If going South on Henlry St. /US 441(headed away from Dowtown Knoxville), Mimosa Ave is the first left IMMEDIATELY after the Blount Ave. intersection on the South end of Henley Street Bridge. Turn Left on Mimosa from Chapmany Hwy. , Kerbela Temple is a short drive up Mimosa Ave. I'm thinking about going, hopefully Saturday AM as well, but I've not commited to that yet. But most likely I am going this weekend. Nothing particular I'm going for but mostly just to browse and drool. Hopefully their will be decent turnout of vendors. We'll see. Might look at a tactical holster setup for my Sig P226 and some other tactical gear; pouches, vest, packs, etc.... Depending on what I see at the Kerbela show, I might wait for the Oct. 16-17 RK show at Chilhowee Park to splurge. One vendor I spoke to recently who said he would be at both shows is this guy. http://www.phantomfirearms.com Phantom Firearms Anybody familiar with them? They're in Knoxville / Halls area. Nice to talk to on phone. I asked if he was on TGO / or other forums, he said no. Anyway I'll shout out a post here when I head that way If I can make it. Cheers

TGO David, Wow, I'm really sorry to hear you're still having this problem. I use FF and IE and am still getting the blocking/ malware when I go to TGO. I work in this field and what you're dealing with is not at all unusual. sorry to say. A certain highly regarded vendor of gear, that uses numbers everyone would recognize, got whacked a year or so ago with some nasty SQL injection code malware. They got blocked from our network for well over 2 weeks til they got it fixed. (hope its not them again) After a few days of folks begging us to unblock caused they need to place orders with them, WE had to track down their webmaster to inform him (and explain it) of what was going on. His reaction was an incredulous "Really??" we said "fraid so, you ARE pwned!" I hope whoever is the source of your (and our) misery RESOLVES this mess real damn quick. Best of Luck!

"Official" East Tn TGO Fall "Meet & Shoot"
Red9MM replied to Bubbatn's topic in Events and Gatherings
Hey East TN TGO gang, AFAIK the location for (and date of) the ET Meet & Shoot hasn't been decided/announced yet, but the Norris Range location has been proposed as a possibility. As I said before I haven't been to the Norris Range before but know several folks that do go pretty regularly and asked them some questions. I decided to call up the Norris PD who issues the permits and controls access to the range and ask a few questions like cost, location, hours, etc.... The info they gave me on the phone about using the range confirms most of what I've been told and read, BUT some things I was informed of differs from things people who have been/go there have told me, as well other things I've heard or read. It doesn't radically differ but I'm glad I checked first. SO, without going into specifics that may cause some confusion, I highly recommend YOU contact the Norris Public Safety folks BEFORE you make the trip. If you already shoot there, no problem you should know the deal already. If you don't CALL FIRST. Get the story from them and ask questions. Then decide how best to proceed so you can go there to shoot if you wish to (for any reason not just this proposed event). Nice folks to talk too, very helpful, answered all my questions. I'll probably go by there this Friday or Saturday to get my permit. Its close enough to me to warrant the trip /cost to go shoot outdoors at a nice, decent facility (so I'm told) . Plus I know a few coworkers who go there I could hook up with as well, and yes I told them about TGO most already know bout the board. City of Norris website - Public Safety page: Norris TN Public Safety (no info on the range on the site, call the number below) Public Safety Telephone 865.494.0880 -
welcome from a fellow knoxvillian as well. glad you're here.

Sorry I thought I had submitted/posted this earlier today but it didn't show up. My sincere apologies to TGO. I did some checking after I saw SWJewellTN's post and this video footage in the OP seems to be pieced together from this site; (Rocky Mountain Varmint Hunters: http://rmvh.com/Movies/ChucksShort3.wmv ) and the story of sniper kills in Afghanistan from early in the war hacked up and thrown on top. I too fell for the story and bogus footage. Mea Culpa, I apologize for posting something I had not checked out thoroughly. I'll pass the correction back to those I received this from so they can "get it right also". To make up for the bogus story and video here are some other stories from I hope gunienly reliable sources on the Canuck snipers. Here is a YouTube video from the History Channel story on the 2430 m sniper kill by Canadian Rob Furlong during Operation Anaconda in 2002: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbzVpcTrQb4 Here's another from Canadian Army News on Canadian Sniper operations: Canadian Snipers in Afghanistan And this is the wikipedia article about the British Corporal who now holds the record @ 2475m twice over Craig Harrison (sniper) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

6.8 fans...Just purchased this NIB w/Wilson Combat 1in scope mount
Red9MM replied to Links2k's topic in Show and Tell
Awesome upper for a AR Black gun! I have black gun envy and have been specing out my future black rifle. A 6.8 is very much in the mix as either a primary or secondary upper receiver. But I'm a southpaw so I may end up going with a Stag Arms when I finally go to the dark side. I like those handguards makes it look sexy and deadly. Congrats, enjoy your fine, fine firearm and let us "dont got's one yet" types know "this is what it will be like" when you unleash the beast and put rounds down range. -
UPDATE - 09/18/2010: The story and footage in this thread is bogus. I apologize for posting without checking the source. See post #11 in this thread for explanation-Red9MM Hi TGO, Here's a short video that I got in an email that shows incredible marksmanship. This is what are our armed forces are capable of putting on the bad guys when properly trained and equipped. God Bless the Canucks for doing that for their military and for loaning them out to us to protect our troops. I have not seen this posted here before and I apologize if this is a repost of the video. This is military footage of snipers doing what they do. I WARN ALL WHO GO PAST THIS POINT! THE IMAGES IN THE VIDEO SHOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GET IN THE CROSSHAIRS OF OUR SNIPERS AND MAY BE DISTURBING TO SOME WEAK LIVERED INDUHVIDUALS. THE TITLE OF THIS, AS I GOT IT, IS CALLED "PICKING OFF THE TALIBAN" The text below the link is what came with the original message. READ IT BEFORE you click the link, it will tell you what you should expect. DON'T WATCH THE VIDEO if seeing what happens when bad guys and the business end of a .50 BMG round meet would Freak you out. AGAIN, This is military footage of snipers doing what they do. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOGUS Video removed by OP- Red9MM- 09-18-2010 -------------------------------------------------------------------- Now that is some kinda shooting! Canadian Snipers in Afghanistan. They never saw it coming! Canadian Snipers wiping out Taliban Snipers in Afghanistan. These video shots are not made through the shooter's telescopic sight. They are made looking through the spotter's scope. The spotter lies right next to the sniper and helps the sniper find and home in on the target. The sniper is using a 50 calibre rifle. A 50 cal. round is about 7-8 inches long and the casing is about an inch in diameter. The bullet itself is one-half inch in diameter and roughly 4 inches long. Pay close attention to the beginning of the video. A Taliban sniper is laying on top of the peak in front of you. When you hear the shot fired, watch what happens. The sniper is hitting an enemy soldier at a range of 2,310 meters (7565ft/1.43 miles), the longest recorded and confirmed sniper shot in history. The previous record of 2,250 meters (7369ft/1.4 miles) was set by US Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock in Vietnam in 1967, The Canadian sniper was at an altitude of 8,599 feet and the target, across a valley was at 9,000 feet. Canadian sniper units often operated in support of US infantry units, which were grateful for their help. The record lasted only one day, until a second Canadian sniper hit an enemy soldier at 2,400 meters(7860ft/1.48miles). The Canadian snipers fire special 50-calibre McMillan tactical rifles, which are bolt-action weapons with five-round magazines.

As some one who just went "Golden" last week I appreciate all life has taught me in the last 50 years. Most of what I know about actually using firearms I learned from Drill Instructors at Fort Leonard Wood , Mo. in the early 80's and several Platoon Sargents during my stint with A Co., 1/327th Infantry 101st Airborne (Air Assault) Div. back in the mid 80's. One of our E-7's was former AMU and wore the "Presidents Hundred Tab". Everyone in the unit qualified Expert with the M16A1 (or you got your a** kicked till you did). So I'm about 20 ish + years since I used firearms regularly and having just recently purchased my first pistol (due more to economic circumstances thru the years than interest I assure you) I have much to re-learn. I'm blessed with resources like good friends, and fellow shooters, and the internet to help with that process. I have a great friend I work with and we car pool to the plant. He's Retired Air Force and AFNG and turned 65 this year. He's also fellow shooter with Air Force Specs Ops experience. Even at my age I learn some from his wisdom and experience all the time. We both try to pass some of that one to some of the younger crew we work with. I see in them some of the "yeah I know that" demeanor I know I had in earlier years. He makes that same observation regarding me regularly. Seems to be a process of life that most of us go thru and grow thru. Notice I said most, cause I also see a lot of folks my age and I just wonder, sometimes out loud, "Why don't they get that ??" and "Where or when did you miss that lesson??":screwy: I respect the knowledge, perspective and energy that many of the younger folks bring with them and sometimes envy that "bold and fresh" attitude they have. I will hope they respect the "been there, done that" experiences many of us have earned or endured (sometimes not by our own choice) during our lifetime. I think the equation WISDOM = Knowledge + Experience sums it up best. and now a little music for your enjoyment; "...wish I didn't know now, what I didn't know then..." from Against the wind, Bob Seger and the Silver BULLET Band, 1980 below is from wikipedia "Against the Wind" is a song by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band from the 1980 album Against the Wind. According to a writer for Rolling Stone, "'Against the Wind' is about trying to move ahead, keeping your sanity and integrity at the same time." I think that last quote pretty much sums up modern life for most folks. YMMV! (also sounds like the progression of this and most other threads on this board. ) And below is my signature line. which is my "tarded" up version of the lyrics to the Charlie Daniels Band classic "Long Haired Country Boy". (hope you enoy) Jus trying to give my take on, and apply my own clever wit (?!?!?!?!???) to the "tarded" up situation his nation is in. Cheers! to all TGO'ers Assuming you are at least 21 and can legally enjoy the beverage presented above. JK! LOL!!! OMG! Sorry for the long post!

"Official" East Tn TGO Fall "Meet & Shoot"
Red9MM replied to Bubbatn's topic in Events and Gatherings
I personally would prefer the Satudays 10/2, 10/9, or 10/16 . The Sundays that bookend those dates are doable also for me, but slightly less so. I don't have a Norris Range pass, but I would go get one for this and use it regularly also. So plunking down the cash to do some plinking down range is a win for me. -

Red9MM replied to Bubbatn's topic in Events and Gatherings
Sound great . I'd like to meet the other shooters from this neck to the woods. Sat. or Sunday (after church) is fine with me. Fridays work for me as well because of 4-10 work schedule in O.R. Norris sounds OK. I haven't been there yet. I'm open to other places as well. Vols are home at Neyland thru the rest of Sept., 10/2 & 10/9 are away games . Looks like 10/16 is a bye week gonna need it cause we get Bama @ home this year on 10/23 then 10/30 & 11/6 are away dates again. University of Tennessee Athletics Football -
Thanks, Joe! I must warn you that I must be under Darth's dark side influence because I find it hard to resist telling (teasing) you that when I was at the RK Gun show in Knoxville today I saw not less than 5 Sig Sauer TACOPS; 4 in 9mm and 1 in .40S&W. At one vendors table they had two of the TACOPS; a 9mm and a .40S&W for less than what I paid for mine both were <$1k. The .40S&W still came with 4 of the Black Sig Sauer /Mec Gar magazines, but all the 9mm I checked had the new grey ones. The range bag with the blue logo I haven't seen that many of, at least online. Indeed I find myself increasingly under the influence of what I understand is diagnosed as a "SIGness". I was checking out several flavors of of the Sig Sauer 556 carbines at the show today and kept hearing a very small voice saying "Use the card Red!", "Turn to dark rifle side" and "I am your Carbine, Red ". Creepy (but in a warm and friendly way) Beware the postings of new handgun owners. We may have unwittingly found the same fountain of KoolAid that has kept forums like this going and refreshed the coffers of firearms makers for years. Hey, you thirsty?!?!! I'm parched, bro!
