  1. My single shot Savage 12FV .223 w/Boyds AT One stock, 8-32 Japan Tasco on top. I removed the internal mag, inserted a dense closed cell foam block in the stock where the mag goes and installed Sharp Shooters Supply single shot tray. Them 200yrd saltine crackers better look out. That AT-One stock bolted right up no issues. Plinker4life had the right trigger guard for the stock although I could have done some grinding on the OEM trigger guard to make it fit

  3. Quantico Tactical used to sell S&W in the LEO/Military program. Anyone know who sells S&W firearms to retired military under the S&W LEO/Military program in the Nashville/Clarksville area?
  4. No arthritis here, but I carry a P32 every day because it is easy to carry and is reliable. I owned 2 PF9s and a DB9. Not easy to shoot. Then neither is my S&W 340PD. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  5. I'm fascinated by the Remington-esque grip safety. Wonder if they are going to make an EZ 9mm?
  6. I would recommend not buying until you try any ultra light SW or Ruger LCR in rimfire. DA trigger is much heavier than centerfire due to heavier hammer spring to get reliable rimfire ignition. Ruger SP 101 in .327 Fed Mag might work using 32 SW or 32 SW Long. SP 101 action can be smoothed up quite easily as well. Enough weight in the SP 101 too. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  7. I told my shooting buddy I thought I wanted a PC9. He, who has owned a Camp 9, said, "why would you want a rifle that can't do "rifle stuff?" Then we got to discussing some of the info Dolomite told me about ARs some years ago. I lost my desire for a Camp 9, but then got my juices up again for an AR 15 with JP Silent Recoil system with adjustable gas block. The only firearm of the many I have let go that I regret is the Colt HBAR that I had with Dolomite's JP-like silent recoil system, adjustable gas block, 10x mildot scope and steel stock. I would be king of the 2" saltine 200yrd cracker shoots with that rig. Just didn't have the brains or foresight to know what I had 6 or 7 yrs ago.
  8. If you guys didn't know this I am telling you how to get budget varmint rifle. Cabelas sells a blind box (4+1) 26" heavy barrel varmint rifle called the 12FV for 419.99. Every year during the Black Friday period they offer killer deals on it and have been doing so for about or at least 10yrs. Savage runs a 100.00 rebate on this rifle every year from BF week through Dec 31. However, during the BF weekend they put the 12FV on sale so that once you get your rebate I am paying with taxes 249.99. I have my rifle in hand and it took 7 days from the day I ordered it online to arrive at Cabelas in Bowling Green, KY. I drove in to Cabelas mid week and was out in 15 minutes. No background check cost for long gun you buy in KY because KY does not have a state middle man, they go straight to NICS. Can you get the 12FV Savage from other dealers other than Cabelas? Yes, sort of,but not with the blind magazine. Savage markets through other retailers a Model 12FCV, same rifle as the 12FV but has detachable box mag. (You can convert a blind mag model to detachable mag for a cost, one that I didn't or don't care about, but it is not complicated but you will need the right stock.) The KEY issue with the 12 FCV is that it cost around 750.00 through Buds, and yes you can get the 100.00 rebate till Dec 31 and get the 12 FCV for around 650.00 minus tax and backhground. Oddly, the 12 FV is offered in these calibers: 22.250, 223, .204, 308, 6.5 Creedmoor. http://www.cabelas.com/product/SAVAGE-FV-VARMINT-RIFLE/1994604.uts While the 12FCV only comes in 204, 22-250 and 223. https://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/12FCV but costs in my life a buttload of money. Differences between the 12FV and 12FCV: http://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?44608-Difference-between-12FV-and-12-FCV Additionally I learned something else. There is this stuff called Rockite and you can easily and cheaply fill the voids of a plastic stock to add weight and stiffen it up. If the Savage 10/11/12/16 isn't the 1022 of Centerfires I don't what is. I read where some fellas were buying multiple copies of the 12FV, some in all calibers, while others just for the barrels or some just for the actions. Dolomite is the expert on this forum as far as I know on tuning a Savage bolt gun. For those who think the Savage 12FV is too "cheap" an action and still wants to switch barrels my bench rest buddies say try this action: https://www.kelbly.com/actions-aluminum-panda.html
  9. I am "hearing you" on the extractor issue on the Jennings. I have a J22 and it is about to get tossed into the Cumberland.
  10. I contacted a professional gunsmith friend of mine about the R51 who I had not talked to about the R51 before. Some years ago he and I were always monkeying around with something, then he gets out of the Army goes to the gunsmith school and moves far away and actually makes a living as a gunsmith. I think I have my final answer: They're terrible. I was the only warranty center for them for about a year They're the worst pistol I think I've ever screwed with, but they are mechanically fascinating.
  11. Anyone betting their life or their family members' lives on the 2d Gen R51. I bet Remington wishes they never went down the R51 road. Even the 2d Gens seem to have issues, at least with magazines. When I first held a 1st Gen I said to myself "I like the feel of this pistol." I am glad I never purchased one. But something about that full length backstrap grip safety made sense to me, more so even than the HK P7 front grip "safety" I used to have.
  12. Glad to see local PD finally got some sense and got off the .40S&W bandwagon when 9mm works very well.
  13. I've had a fair pile of Glocks over the years, a fair number of S&W M&Ps, even went to armorers courses for both. For one reason or the other I have been a bit removed from handguns for the last couple of years. Is the P320 equal to or better than Glock or M&P in terms of simplicity, accuracy and durability? Any major metro PD's dumping their Glocks in favor of the P320?
  14. I ordered: Buffalo Bore 150 grain wadcutter 38s, Buffalo Bore .357 Lead Free Low Flash 140 Barnes XPB and SPeer Gold Dot Short Barrel 135 .357. If you 340PD owners have other favorites let me know.
  15. Visited an old Army buddy last week and ended up with this, a 11.4oz S&W 340pd. I have some Buffalo Bore and Speer ammo on order that should allow me to shoot this without breaking my hand, as well as prevent flame cutting or cylinder face erosion.
  16. http://mrodair.com/mrodair_airmax_varmint_pcp http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-Stage-PCP-Air-Gun-Rifle-Filling-Stirrup-Pump-Hand-Pump-4500PSI-Gas-Filter-New-/262802571430?hash=item3d304100a6:g:0bQAAOSwnHZYdadw Recommend getting a decent AO scope with this. This is a good little squirrel scope for a light PCP rifle: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ATCTZLY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 You would need to have nice little and relatively cheap moderator/suppressor or sometimes in air gun world called a LDC (lead dust collector).
  17. Even the cheapest PCP rifles come with an overhead of at least a handpump (functional one can be had for 75.00) and moderator (around 50.00). So in theory one can get a decent PCP rifle for around 200.00. So besides pellets somewhere around 325.00 can get a person into a functional squirrel set up. Pumping with a handpump does take some effort.

  21. http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/ I preordered a Umarex Gauntlet which is 10% off and free shipping. Plinker4life is the expert on the cheapest route to get a decent used bottle and correct fittings.
  22. If you need a part for a Mossberg 353 this is the first place to start: http://www.havlinsales.com/ Call them and talk to them.
  23. There is quite a bit of "buzz" in air rifle land for this air rifle, the Umarex Gauntlet. This rifle should be hitting stores about mid-month. If this gun proves itself it would be hard to beat for the money (299.99): https://www.umarexusa.com/blogs/airgun-news/umarex-gauntlet-sets-the-new-standard-in-pcp-air-rifle-performance
