  1. Nice gat. Be careful with that triggger shoe though, the can cause bad thing's to happen...
  2. I really enjoy reading about the modifications and experements you do with Glock’s. I wouldn’t dream of doing any of them because I’m terribly conservative with my firearms. Obviously your having a terrific time with what your doing though and that’s the way to be with a hobby.
  3. I'm not really interested in buying one, just curious about how they handle, I'm gun poor enough as it is without buying something just to shoot it a couple of times.
  4. Well, I just had a chance to see and handle this HiPoint that was refinished myself this morning. It actually look's even nicer firsthand rather than in pictures, I am impressed with how well it turned out. This HiPoint is a solidly made pistol but is a bit heavy with most of the balance in the upper slide midpoint area. How this affect it’s handling when fired is something I’d like to know? Does the added mass in the slide coupled with its blowback action become noticeable or not? FWIW I'm going to try and find someone who owns one and ask them to let me put a few rounds down range, I'm curious.
  5. This one turned out really nice and it does look better than a Robar job. The sight's would be a stretch for me because I've used Mepro Lites for so many years now and am still able to get a good sight picture.
  6. Well, it does look better with that finish on it but I’ in agreement with the Phillips screw head observation. I wonder if some other type of more esthetically pleasing screw configuration could replace them. Still, for a pure mass blow back pistol Hi Point found the right set up for cost and reliability. As I’ve said before I’m not going to knock the product, people buy Hi Points like crazy and the brand has a huge fan base almost to the point of a cult following.
  7. Well I got home form work today and found I'd just recieved my C&R License. I sent in the application about seven week's ago and here it is, that's a pretty quick turnaround time. Other than part's and such I don't know how much I'll use the C&R L but it does give me a few more options. Any recommendations?
  8. I wondered who'd traded in that Lc9 I saw at TGC on Tuesday when I stopped by, I was a bit suprised to see one traded in so soon. If Glock would get with the program and make a thinner grip single stack pistol in 9mm or 40 S&W along the lines of the G-36 but closer to the size of a G-26/27 I'd buy one.
  9. It'd be a three way tie; H&K 4 380ACP, ruined every piece of brass fired through it and fractured it's hammer, Walther PPK/s USA Stainless steel model 380 ACP, terrible trigger, never would feed or cycle correctly, it fractured it's safety, Vega Stainless steel 1911 45 aCP, poor quality steel, (it even rusted while it was coated with RIG) horrible feed problem's slide was to soft, I polished it up really good, put a nice set of grip's on it and put it on consignment. Yep. Someone bought it.

    New .380

I know several people who've purchased the S&W Bodyguard 380 all of them have been very pleased with it and none of them have complained about any problem's with it.
  11. I have a Series 70 Colt 1911 that was a 9mm when I bought it and worked flawlessly, than like an idjet I had it converted to a 45acp. Needless to say I wish I'd left it as is and just bought another 1911 instead.
  12. Nope. You don't have to go through your FFL to have ammo shipped to you. BTW the Mak is a nice pistol but before you buy one take a good look at the CZ 82, I like both of them.
  13. The High Point pistols seem to have a cult following and don't linger long in gun store display cases, I see them around a lot. Yes they look strange and yes the mag's are a weak link but people keep buying them. I don't own any of them and probably wont for that matter but I'm not going to trash talk them either. I remember all the RG's and like handgun's that flooded the market year's ago that people bought like there was no tomorrow. They were for the most part junk. The High Point's aren't.
  14. I was going to use a heat gun to soften the front of the trigger guard and try to push it forward from the inside portion with a wooden dowel. If that didn't look like it would work then I was going to build up the front with epoxy and grind it to size like I've seen done with Glock's. Both the PF9 and Lc9 function correctly so I feel comfortable with them, the Lc9 being just a tad bit larger and having a larger trigger guard feel's better to me so it get's the edge. Now as to triggers, the PF9 is a shorter stroke and break's a little cleaner while the Lc9 is a true DA only and is a long, slightly heavy pull to a suprise break. It feel's more like a revolver trigger so I took to it without any trouble. The Lc9 has better fit, finish and sight's but also cost more for this "Bling" so other's might not be intrested. It also has a side safety that you can either use or not use, I carried a 1911 on duty for several year's so I took to it w/o really thinking about it. The bottom line though is I like both pistol's but the Lc9 is a better one for me now. I wouldn't let my wife use the PF9 if I didn't trust it to work the way it's supposed to though, KelTec is a great company.
  15. Enjoy your PF9, over allI like mine but do think a larger trigger guard would help. I recently purchased a Ruger Lc9 to see if I wanted to carry it instead of the PF9 for this very reason. The end result of that was my wife claimed the PF9 for her's instead, it fit's her smaller hand well and she like's it. I had intended to buy an extra frame and stretch out the front of the trigger guard.

    Aquatic carry

Your talking about a non-issue here, blued or stainless, pistol or revolver, it all comes down to maintainance. Stainless steel and blued steel will both show rust in humid or wet enviorment's, keep them lubricated, wipe them down and clean often. I carried a Colt Series 70 1911 Gov't Blued Steel Pistol on duty daily for three year's, was rained on a lot, in and out of air conditioned building, car etc into hot, muggy TN humidity. Other than normal holster wear I hand no problems. I did however, wipe dow this pistol at the end of each shift, clean and lubricate it every week and whenever I was rained on I field stripped it, used compressed air to blow out any moisture, cleaned and lubricated it. Your main issue is going to be weight. How much gun do you really need? You might find that a KelTec P3AT or like small pistol or a NAA five shot S/A revolver are all you really need.

    S&W Model 59

Owned both a Model 39 & 59 in the early to mid 1970's, the M-39 had great point shooting ergonomic's but a terrible trigger. As for the M-59 it was from the first issue year, other than it's bulk and trigger pull it was fine, I just couldn't grow to like it enough. The 5906 is a much more refined pistol, the one's I've handled and shot had much better trigger pull's and ran more smoothly. In fact the DA only model I tried was so smooth I couldn't believe it was a S&W, I accused the owner of having had an action job done on it. The thing to remember with the S&W M-39 and M-59 is that they predate the Beretta M-92 and were the first post war commercial pistol's utilizing the Walther P-38 DA/SA action. It was such a close copy they had the same gritty, heavy trigger pull as the P-38. I doubt I'd ever purchase another M-59 but will say the M-59 magazine is amoung the best on the market and I'd willingly use it in a Sub 2000 or like 9mm long gun.
  18. Yep. Was lucky, didn't get hurt seriously, simple band aid job.

    Ruger LC9

I own and use a Kel Tec PF9 that has worked quite well for me after its initial break in period. Kept cleaned and lubed it does its job. Now the trigger guard on the PF9 could be a bit larger for me because it’s tough to index, I can only get my finger tip into it and have to deliberately line my finger up to do that. When I fire the pistol the inside portion of the front trigger guard raps the heck out of the front part of my finger, just behind the first digit. While this is not debilitating it is uncomfortable for a few days afterward. The sharp recoil from this pistols light weight and compact size is just that, you won’t shoot more than a box or two of ammunition at a time, but you can train with the pistol. Now as for the Lc9: I recently purchased one and have field tested it with good results. For my hand size it’s a little more pleasant to shoot, but of course still has the sharp recoil and you wouldn’t want to shoot hundreds of rounds through it at a time while at the range. It does have a more finished look to it and is nicely contoured in an appealing sort of way. In fact it reminds me of my Glock 36 in some ways, just a lot smaller. I like the Lc9 and will transition from the PF9 to it but still intend to keep the PF9, though I’d like to figure out a positive way to increase the trigger guard w/o potentially weakening it as well.
  20. I carried a Colt Gov't Model for several years both on and off duty and have owned Colt Commanders and Officer Models as well. At this stage of the game if someone asks for a recommendation I suggest a Glock 36, it's Glock 19/23 etc size but thinner. FWIW it's far more comfortable in my hand than any other Glock model and I carry a G22 & 27 due to regulations. FWIW the G36 is an absolute ***** cat to shoot as well with remarkably little felt recoil, I like it quite a bit.
  21. Durakote? Turned out really well, did you media blast it to remove the plated finish or were you able to prep it with a good clean up and degreasing?
  22. It's an odd looking pistol, in a cool sort of way, but hasn't intrested me enough to want to buy one. Still, I'd like to put some round's downrange through one sometime just to see how it handled and grouped. As it is this is a pistol that enough are sold of to maintain it's production level so that say's a bit.

    EDC Update

The Native is a very good knife, I've carried one on and off duty for several year's w/o any problem's. It replaced the Police model I'd carried for nine year's. I don't have any experence with the flashlight brand mentioned but like the look's and size of it for off duty carry.
  24. The G27 is a great carry pistol if you can conceal it under a shirt or jacket, it's not good at all as a pocket carry pistol though. I've carried one for years as an Off Duty/Back Up pistol and tried every carry method with it. As an off duty pistol its great but it isn't the best off back up or hide out pistols. For this I lean more towards the P3AT, 442 and LCP as they will stash well in a a lot of different carry method's and are also lighter then the G27. One thing to bear in mind with a small DAO revolver is it will run just fine if you have to shoot from a jacket pocket or even an oversized pant's pocket. Don't try that with a pistol though, you'll jam it up quick.
  25. The Tok is a rather awkward looking service pistol that just doesn't feel right when handled or shot alongside 1911 Colt's or P35 BHP's. Nonetheless it work's rather well and isn't very picky about what it has run through it in the field or at the range. The concept of firearm's safety was secondary to the mission it was designed for as getting it made cheaply and quickly was more important. You can improve the action with a little bit of effort but it will still be uncomfortable. By all mean's give one a try and see what the project turns into.
