Ruger .22 Mark II

Anybody ever have trouble after disassembling and cleaning getting one of these back together? I followed the guidelines in the owner's manual and still couldn' get it. Had to take it to a friend who still had trouble with it, but finally got it.

It's a pain to start with. I still sometimes have got to get the manual out to get it back together.

You do have to hold it just about exactly like the pic does in the book for every step.

Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one!! Was beginning to think I was going about it all wrong! Will have to work with it more and get the feel for it I guess. Thanks for the replies!

So what's the age on yours? This one was given to my wife by her dad. It is 30 yrs old and shoots like a charm! One of the best .22s I have ever shot.

Just make sure you are facing east, stand on one foot, and squint your right eye and it should go back together. These things are a pain unless you take them apart very often. I sometimes get the feel for how they go back together if I'm stripping mine often enough. If its too long between range sessions, I just pull out the manual and get ready to be frustrated!

I had to look up videos on you tube to take down my wife's the first time. Check them out, it may help. It gets easier though.

I just got mine a month or so ago. Have no clue about the age. The only blemish is a scuff about 1/4" long.

That's funny you posted this today. I was just cleaning mine this morning and had to try about 10 times to get it back together, even though I've done it countless times.

I put one back together for a friend of mine, easier after the first time it comes apart. I never took mine apart and never will.

Another friend of mine Rich has had his since high school long long ago early 80's and has never taken it apart. Has thousand and thousands of rounds fired and keeps on going.

You made the classic rookie mistake...you disassembled it

They are definitely a pain in the ass to reassemble. I hardly ever break my down anymore. I shoot a little gun scrubber down in the action to get any crud out and then spray it with a little clp and put her up. Unless you are having problems, there really is no need to break it down to clean it.

They are great guns. Have fun with yours.

I think everyone has that problem. It does seem to be more prevalent with gators though.

I haven't taken mine apart in several years for that very reason.

If I recall, the best way for me was to hold it upside down (overhead) to keep the spring in alignment.

I think the stars have to be in alignment for one to go back together smoothly,sometimes it does,sometimes it doesn't.

Just make sure that little tab that hangs down in the back goes into the slot for it in the bolt stop. Or your bolt will not work.

I have a Mark III 22/45 and the first time I took it apart I could not get the bugger back together. Called my BF up and told him I wanted to sell the POS. I finally got it right and it's taken a few times to for me do it. I think I have it down now. They are a blast to shoot but the break down...ugh!

That's what works for me. Along with some more monkeying around. Lots of light seems to help.

I don't disassemble that thing 'cept every couple of years or so and that's only when I know alot of crud has built up. You could probably go a life time and not take a Ruger apart and it will run just fine.

I shot my 10/22 over 10 yrs & never cleaned it. You can ask Mark@sea how dirty it was. Also I cleaned my Nylon 66 for the first time last week. It was unbeleiveable I think it was the first time it done since it was built.

.22's can take some abuse!
