Shopping Headaches

Hey y'all, as I stated in another post, I am looking to purchase a few firearms for myself and my wife after a nearly two-decade hiatus. Research has me looking at a 22LR pistol and rifle for her to use to train her to shoot, and a 9mm pistol and possibly a 308 rifle for me for hunting and home defense. At 51 years old, I am finding it overly tedious to continuously fall down the rabbit holes of never-ending research. I am looking for reliable, budget-friendly, not too rough on my disabled shoulders, and good enough to handle home defense, hunting, and general practice on our land. If y'all have insight and advice, I would certainly appreciate it! My rabbit holes even have me looking down the path of an AR at some point, possibly. I just want to make certain I am making the best possible decision when we do decide to pull the trigger on this investment purchase in our livelihood.

As far as the 22 situation is concerned a Ruger mk series pistol and Ruger 10/22 rifle are as solid as you can get. To me those are "buy it once, buy it for life" choices.

Good luck, there's no shortage of good options out there.

I would just get a 9mm; you both can share something full-mid-size, not compact. Kings has police trades in at a very fair price all the time. Glocks and S&W M&Ps you could also buy secondhand from a member.

308- for the money, I would get a Ruger American Gen 2.

HD- Mavericks 88 or a 590 if you can find an old Remington 870.

I've been down this path buying my wife something I thought she would like let her pick trust me.

.22 pistol - Ruger Mark 4 or a Browning Buckmark

.22 rifle - CZ 455 or 457 or a Ruger American

I have a Mark 2 and a Mark 4 and both are shooters.  I also have a CZ 455 and it's one of my favorite guns I own.  I think CZ replaced the 455 with 457.

I got the Ruger pcc and the sr9. Fun to shoot and low recoil. Same mags. OK for home defense.

Are you able to go to a range where you can rent an assortment of candidates and see what you like and dislike?

I believe there are a couple of places not too far of a drive from here for me. Hoping we can try some out in a week or so.
