I wasn’t saying ya’ll are fussing, just making a general comment about the yearly summertime drama the weather people and/or treehuggers stir up and the mentality of people nowadays:

Guys at work:  The high today is 106!!  Global warming!!

Me:  No, the high is 93.

Them:  But TV/news/social media said 106!

Me:  That’s the heat index, a made up number.  The temperature is the same as last year and the year before and the year before that.

Them:  But it’s 106!

Yeah I’ve never liked the made up numbers just to cause more drama. Maybe wind chill numbers in winter are useful but I’ve never paid attention to all the drama about heat index.

I'm the same, I can work outside thirty five degrees in a t shirt and sometimes break a sweat. I do refrigeration work working in walking coolers, and freezers. I can  freeze out my help when they send me some.

You may be related to my father.  He kept an icepick thermometer in the dash vent of his F-150 and if it got above 40F, he was in the Lewis Ford service guy’s face.  I think I got frostbite in his truck once on the way to school.  My sister sent his DNA to ancestry.com or whoever and it said he was 70% Scandinavian.  That explained several things.

I was at Bright Angel campground at the bottom of the Grand Canyon and it was 117F and the humidity was maybe only 10%.  It didn’t matter.

I didn’t quite have that experience, but I got back a couple weeks ago from a week full of shooting and good company at the NRA center in Raton, NM. I forget what the temperature was there but the humidity was near nothing. Running and gunning all week and didn’t sweat at all. Soon as I got back here I was soaked with sweat.
I told some friends that if I’d had my dog with me I might not have come back.

That dry heat can sneak up on Easterners like us.  We aren’t drenched and it doesn’t feel the same because sweat is evaporating, so we think we are good.  Bam then we are dehydrated before we know it.

🤣🤣🤣 Yep! Exactly right! And there I was that Tuesday when we did the Cooper Scout Walk.
My greenhorn self only THOUGHT I had pre-hydrated enough. Learned real quick just how wrong I was. 😵‍💫

Hands down the best vacation I’ve ever had. Met some fine people there and next year, Lord willing, I’ll be going back.
